OR CAREER. THE CHANGE INTRODUCES MANY
OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS TO SELECT CLASSES
BASED ON THEIR INTERESTS.
HOW IT WORKS

After careful thought and discussion with parents, students will choose a career
pathway aligned to an endorsement and create/update their 6-year progression
plan with their counselors. If a student’s interests are in a program or school
of choice, GSPOC application deadlines apply. Acceptance letters are mailed in
February.

During Online Course Request in February, 8th graders will review their
progression plans, endorsement plans, and pre-course selections based on their
pathway or program selection.

The students will finalize their plans in writing with their 9th grade counselors

Demonstrate proficiency in accordance with District grading policy in two or more
languages by:

Complete all English language arts requirements and maintaining a minimum
grade point average (GPA) of the equivalent of 80 on a scale of 100; and
2.
Satisfy one of the following:
• Completion of a minimum of three credits in the same language other
than English with a minimum GPA of the equivalent of 80 on a scale of
100; or
• Demonstrate proficiency in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for
Level IV or higher in a language other than English with a minimum GPA
of the equivalent of 80 on a scale of 100; or
• Complete at least three credits in foundation subject area courses in
a language other than English with a minimum GPA of 80 on a scale of
100; or
• Demonstrate proficiency in one or more languages other than English
through one of the following methods:
>> Score of 3 or higher on a College Board AP exam for a language other
than English; or
>> Score of 4 or higher on an IB exam for a higher-level languages other
than English course; or
>> Performance on a national assessment of language proficiency
in a language other than English of at least Intermediate High or its
equivalent
In addition to meeting the requirements to earn a performance acknowledgment in
bilingualism and biliteracy, an English language learner must also have:
a) Participated in and met the exit criteria for a bilingual or English as a
second language (ESL) program; and
b) Scored at the Advanced High level on the Texas English Language
Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS).
Earn a:
1.
Score of 3 or above on a College Board advanced placement examination
2.
Score of 4 or above on an International Baccalaureate examination
Earn a:
1.
Score on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test
(PSAT/NMSQT®) that qualifies the student for recognition as a commended
scholar or higher by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship
Corporation, as part of the National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP)
of the College Board or as part of the National Achievement Scholarship
Program of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation
2.
College readiness benchmark score on at least two of the four subject tests
on the ACT-PLAN® examination
3.
Combined critical reading and mathematics score of at least 1250 on the
SAT®; or
4.
Composite score on the ACT® examination of 28 (excluding the writing
subscore)
Earn a nationally or internationally recognized business or industry certification or
license with:
1.
Performance on an examination or series of examinations sufficient to
obtain a nationally or internationally recognized business or industry
certification, or
2.
Performance on an examination sufficient to obtain a government-required
credential to practice a profession
GRADUATION PLANS
Fort Worth ISD offers three (3) graduation plans:
• Distinguished Level of Achievement – 26 credits
*Recommended graduation plan for all students
• Foundation High School Program + Endorsements – 26 credits
• Foundation High School Program – 22 credits
*Option not eligible for selection until after the completion of sophomore year.
The Distinguished Level of Achievement (DLA) designation upon graduation must be earned in
order to be eligible for top 10 percent automatic admission to a public Texas university.
In order to earn a DLA designation, a student must successfully complete four math credits,
including Algebra II; four science credits and an endorsement requirement.

pre-cursos basados en su plan o programa escogido.

• Demostrar dominio en uno o más idiomas que no sean Inglés mediante uno de
los siguientes métodos;
>> Una calificación de 3 o más en un examen AP de la Junta Universitaria
(College Board) para un idioma que no sea inglés; o
>> Una calificación de 4 o más en un examen IB para un curso de nivel
avanzado en un idioma que no sea inglés; o
>> Desempeño en una evaluación nacional de dominio de un idioma que no sea
inglés por lo menos a un nivel intermedio alto o equivalente.
Además de cumplir los requisitos para obtener un reconocimiento en la capacidad de hablar,
leer y escribir en dos idiomas, un estudiante que esté aprendiendo Inglés también debe:
a) Participar y cumplir con los requisitos para ser dado de alta de un programa
bilingüe o de Inglés como segundo idioma (ESL); y
b) Obtener una calificación alta en el nivel avanzado alto en el Sistema de
Evaluación de Dominio del Idioma Inglés de Texas (TELPAS por sus siglas en Inglés).

PLANES PARA LA GRADUACION
El Fort Worth ISD ofrece (3) planes diferentes para graduación:
• Nivel de Logros Distinguidos – 26 créditos
*Plan de graduación recomendado para todos los estudiantes
• Programa Básico de Escuela Secundaria + Especialización – 26 créditos
• Programa Básico de Escuela Secundaria – 22 créditos
*Opción no elegible para selección hasta que se haya completado el décimo grado.
Se debe obtener al momento de la graduación el nivel de logros distinguidos (DLA por sus
siglas en inglés) para poder ser elegible dentro del 10 por ciento de admisión automática a una
universidad pública de Texas.
Para obtener una designación DLA, un/a estudiante debe completar con éxito cuatro créditos en
matemáticas, incluyendo Álgebra II; cuatro créditos en ciencias y un requisito de especialización.
