Biography
Alvaro Rojo Gomez was born in central Mexico, where he obtained his Bachelor of Veterinary
Medicine, at the Universidad Michoacán de San Nicolas de Hidalgo in Morelia, Michoacán. After
achieving his Master of Science degree in Swine Nutrition under the direction of Dr. Jose Antonio Cuarón
at the National University of Mexico; he worked as a nutritionist for different feed companies, initially at
Concentra Consorcio Agroindustrial, and later at Cargill Mexico, GRAMOSA and Los Olivos Alimentos.
Alvaro's professional accomplishments include developing research in several areas of swine nutrition,
such as nutritional alternatives to improve reproductive responses in sows, evaluation of feed ingredients
and feed additives, digestibility and metabolizability of ingredients for pig diets, nutritional interventions
to increase meat quality characteristics and evaluating gas emissions and dust reduction technologies in
pig finisher buildings. For the last 5 years he has been working in swine research and is currently
pursuing a PhD under the academic direction of Dr. Mike Ellis. As a graduate student, his research work
focused on the effect of dietary excesses of BCAA’s and high protein distillers’ grains on pig’s growth
performance, health and meat quality.
