NOTES FROM THE NEW EDITOR
When we were doing the last revisions on this issue of
Iberoamericana we were reached by the sad news of the death of our friend
and colleague Professor Jaime Behar. Professor Behar was the chief editor
of the journal for twelve years. During this time the journal enhanced its
reputation as a provider of high-quality scientific articles and also increased
its circulation considerably. The new editorial board acknowledges
professor Behar’s diligent and creative work with the journal.
The scope of the journal Iberoamericana is the presentation of
multidisciplinary studies of Latin America and the Caribbean with special
focus on the social sciences and humanities. We want to cover a broad
range of subjects and also, in some issues, present critical comments on the
articles to encourage academic discussion. Articles on national as well as
transnational economic, political, social, cultural, legal and historical
subjects are thus welcome. We will continue with thematic issues and we
welcome suggestions for themes from guest editors. Every second or third
issue will be dedicated to articles on a variety of subjects. We therefore
also welcome individual articles which fit the profile of the journal. The
articles may be written in English, Spanish or Portuguese. All articles will
be peer reviewed. We want to renew the journal by giving it a new format
and possibly also a new name.
With the solid editorial base that professor Behar has left us, we also
hope to continue giving our readers a journal with stimulating and thoughtprovoking articles.

NOTAS DE LA NUEVA EDITORA
Durante las últimas revisiones de este número de Iberoamericana,
nos llegó la triste noticia del fallecimiento de nuestro colega y amigo Dr.
Jaime Behar. Dr. Behar se desempeñó en la tarea de Jefe Editor por un
período de doce años. Durante este tiempo la revista acrecentó su prestigio
y reconocimiento tanto a nivel nacional como internacional. El nuevo
Consejo Editorial desea expresar su reconocimiento al Dr. Behar por su
contribución a la revista, mediante su trabajo y su labor minuciosa y
creativa.
Iberoamericana tiene como objetivos fomentar, promover,
promocionar y difundir los estudios sobre América Latina y el Caribe con
un especial enfoque en las ciencias sociales y las humanidades. Dichos
estudios son de carácter interdisciplinarios y por ello sus áreas de
investigación buscan cubrir todos los aspectos de la sociedad
latinoamericana y caribeña: políticos, jurídicos, económicos, culturales,
históricos y sociales. Por eso les invitamos a enviar artículos en éstas
áreas, tanto en el ámbito nacional como transnacional.
Continuaremos con la publicación de números temáticos, aceptando
sus sugerencias e ideas. Dedicaremos una edición especial, cada dos o tres
números de Iberoamericana, con temas variados, para lo cual invitamos a
los lectores a enviar textos en diversas materias que coincidan con el perfil
de la revista. Nuestra meta es también fomentar el debate académico
presentando artículos de investigación y sus comentarios críticas. Los
artículos podrán ser escritos en inglés, español y portugués. Todos los
artículos recibidos serán evaluados por especialistas, en el área
correspondiente, antes de su publicación. Queremos también, en un futuro,
introducir cambios en el formato y tal vez en el nombre de la revista.
Esperamos continuar brindándoles una revista que les incentive a
reflexionar, siempre con la base editorial sólida que el Dr. Behar nos
legara.
