Developing Values: Beliefs that have worth
Family Values are the moral guidelines that family members believe have worth.
When a belief has worth, it has value. If “No hitting the family pet or other
people” or “No fighting with each other” are morals parents are teaching their
children, then parents have to practice what they preach. If not, parents create a
double standard: It’s not ok for siblings to hit each other or to hit the family pet,
but it’s ok for parents to hit. The moral of treating the family pet and your brother
and sister with respect will have little value, and hence will probably not be
adopted. If the moral is to have worth, the entire family must practice it.”

Desarrollando Valores: Las creencias que valen la pena
“Los valores familiares son las pautas morales que valoran los miembros
de la familia y que creen valen la pena. Cuando una creencia vale la pena,
tiene valor. Si "No golpear la mascota de la familia u otras personas" o "No
pelear entre sí" son los morales que los padres enseñan a sus hijos, los
padres tienen que practicar lo que inculcan. Si no es así, los padres crean
un doble rasero: No está bien que los niños se golpeen entre sí o que
golpeen al mascota, pero está bien si los padres golpean. La moral de
tratar al mascota y a los hermanos con respeto tendrá muy poco valor, y
cuyo no será adoptado. Si el moral va a tener valor, la familia entera debe
practicarla.”
