As many of you know I am on a pilgrimage together with
Fr. Alex Trejo, Fr. Mario Salazar and Deacon Carlos Luna to
Holy Land. Words cannot express the power and beauty of
actually being in the Holy Land. It is awesome and inspiring
to actually walk in the footsteps of Jesus Christ. The ability
to see the places, towns, hills and seas that we hear about in
the Bible is truly a blessing. It makes the Scriptures come
alive.
On Tuesday, we arrived in Nazareth – the town in which
Jesus was raised as a child. We visited Cana where couples
on pilgrimage with us renewed their marriage vows. Cana,
of course, is the place where Jesus performed his first
miracle of changing water into wine at a wedding feast. We
visited the site of the Annunciation of Mary and was able to
admire all the beautiful artwork and images of Mary from
many different countries. Near the Church of the
Annunciation is the house of Saint Joseph where Father
Alex celebrated Mass for us.
The next day we went to the site of the Sermon on the
Mount where Jesus gave his disciples the Beatitudes. The
Church that is built there is in the shape of an octagon –
eight sides for each of the eight Beatitudes. We visited
another Church nearby which marked the site of the
multiplication of the loaves. There is a mosaic in the floor
before the altar depicting four loaves and two fish – there
are only four loaves because Christians are reminded that
the fifth miraculous loaf is the one on the altar in the form
of the Eucharist.
Later in the day we went to visit the place where Jesus told
Peter, "you are Peter and upon this rock a will build my
Church." In this Church, which is by the Sea of Galilee, there
is a Huge Stone that represent that very event. Then we
went to the place where Peter lived and over his house is a
Church called "The Primacy of Peter". I was able to
celebrate Mass there and call to mind the words and actions
of our first Pope.
Right after that, we rode a boat on the Sea of
Galilee. During the tour the guide asked the group of 32
people to keep 3 minutes in silence remembering Jesus who
travelled across the same water over two thousand years
ago. It was incredible.
Next we will visit Jericho, Bethlehem and the great city of
Jerusalem. We will end our tour in the town of Emmaus
and surrounding areas.
Please pray for us on this pilgrimage and know that I am
praying for you at all these holy sites.

gift is not as important as simply participating in this important funding

St. Rose of Lima School
Did you know that St. Rose students learn about the Jesse Tree each
advent season? The Jesse tree is tells the story of God's redemptive plan
for the world through 25 symbols from the Old and New testament
leading up to the birth of Christ. Each morning the students learn about a
step in the historical path to Christmas and place an ornament on our
Christmas (Jesse tree). This helps us keep Christ in Christmas for our
students!

Advent Novena of Bilingual Masses

Como muchos de ustedes saben que estoy en una peregrinacion
junto con el P. Alex Trejo, P. Mario Salazar y el Diacono Carlos Luna a la Tierra Santa. Las palabras no pueden expresar el poder y la
belleza de estar realmente en la Tierra Santa. Es impresionante e
inspirador para caminar realmente en los pasos de Jesus Cristo. La
capacidad de ver los lugares, pueblos, colinas y los mares que escuchamos en la Biblia es realmente una bendicion. Hace que las
Escrituras revivan.

El martes, llegamos a Nazaret - la ciudad en la que Jesus fue creado
como un nino. Visitamos Cana donde parejas en peregrinacion con
nosotros renovaron su promesa de matrimonio. Cana, por supuesto, es el lugar donde Jesus realizo su primer milagro de cambiar el
agua en vino en una fiesta de bodas. Visitamos el sitio de la Anunciacion de María y era capaz de admirar todas las ilustraciones y
las imagenes de María hermosa de muchos países diferentes. Cerca de la Iglesia de la Anunciacion es la casa de San Jose donde el
Padre Alex celebro la Santa Misa para nosotros.
Al día siguiente fuimos al sitio del Sermon de la Montana donde
Jesus dio a sus discípulos las Bienaventuranzas. La Iglesia que se
construye no es en la forma de un octagono - ocho lados para cada
una de las ocho bienaventuranzas. Visitamos otra cercana Iglesia
que marca el lugar de la multiplicacion de los panes. Hay un mosaico en el suelo delante del altar que representa a cuatro panes y
dos peces - solo hay cuatro panes porque los cristianos se les recuerda que la quinta pan milagroso es el que esta en el altar en la
forma de la Eucaristía.
Mas tarde en el día que fuimos a visitar el lugar en el que Jesus le
dijo a Pedro: "Tu eres Pedro y sobre esta piedra me are una Iglesia." En esta Iglesia, que esta junto al mar de Galilea, hay una enorme piedra que representa ese mismo evento. Luego fuimos al lugar donde Pedro vivio y por encima de su casa es una Iglesia llamada "El Primado de Pedro". Tuve la oportunidad de celebrar la
misa allí y traer a la memoria las palabras y acciones de nuestro
primer Papa.
Justo despues de eso, nos subimos en un barco en el mar de Galilea. Durante el recorrido el guía pidio al grupo de 32 personas
para mantener a 3 minutos en silencio para recordar a Jesus que
viajo a traves de la misma agua hace mas de dos mil anos. Fue increíble.
A continuacion vamos a visitar Jerico, Belen y la gran ciudad de
Jerusalen. Terminaremos nuestro recorrido en la localidad de
Emaus y sus alrededores.

estoy orando por usted en todos estos lugares sagrados.

Jese cada temporada advenimiento? El arbol de Jesse se cuenta la historia
del plan redentor de Dios para el mundo a traves de 25 símbolos del
Antiguo y Nuevo Testamento que lleva hasta el nacimiento de Cristo. Cada
manana, los estudiantes aprenden acerca de un paso en el camino
historico de la Navidad y colocar un adorno en nuestra (arbol de Jesse)
Navidad. Esto nos ayuda a mantener a Cristo en la Navidad para nuestros
estudiantes!
