THE WIND AND THE SEA
Living along the shores of Lake Superior—the “big lake,” as the
locals call it—you can often hear the advice, “Respect the lake; don’t
take it for granted.” People who know Lake Superior respect its power
and watch out for its many moods. Sunken ships and boats crushed
into kindling are testimonies to what the lake can do.
The readings of this Sunday evoke our memories of the lake, of the
mighty Mississippi River, or of the ocean itself. Who but God can
control these mighty waters and set limits to their advance? The lake
described in today’s Gospel was a body of water subject to sudden
storms and churned into dangerous waves by terrible winds.
But these mighty agents are subject to God. The sailor and the fisher
all respect the water. Even more, they respect the awesome power of
the Maker of wind and sea.

REGISTRATION FOR OUR SCHOOLS ... continues and we

BAPTISMS … are celebrated during each month here at Saint

GOD’S WORD TODAY
During the past few years we have seen the
tremendous destruction wrought by
tsunamis and hurricanes. Surging water has a
destructive power sometimes beyond
imagining. We can understand why the
disciples—most of whom were experienced
fishermen—feared for their lives when the
squall came up and waves began to break
over the boat. This story, recounted in today’s Gospel, can
inspire us to turn to the Lord when we are faced with those
things that bring fear and desperation into our own lives. Let us
not be afraid to ask God to come to our aid, especially when the
storms of worry, fear, and anxiety begin to crash over our own
lives.

Two weeks ago at the Youth Group BBQ,
I asked each teen to share their favorite memory from YG this year. Everyone laughed
remembering so many of the different milestones reached over the past 10 months. Despite the diverse memories, the common
theme was "family."
Since moving to New York, I was welcomed
into several families, but my St. Raymond
family is my favorite! I leave St. Ray's with
a grateful and heavy heart because of the
many lives that touched me this year. Please,
continue to invite, support, and celebrate the
young people of our parish, because they will
be the leaders of our family in the future.

EL VIENTO Y EL MAR
Los que conocen bien el Lago Superior le tienen un saludable
respeto, y siempre están alerta sobre sus caprichosos cambios de
ánimo. Muchos barcos hundidos y muchos botes hechos astillas
son testigos de lo que el lago puede hacer cuando está de mal
humor.
Las lecturas de este domingo nos evocan memorias de ese
lago, del poderoso río Mississippi o del océano mismo. ¿Quién,
fuera de Dios, podrá controlar esas aguas poderosas, o
imponerles límites, diciendo “Hasta aquí llegarás”? El lago que
describe el Evangelio de hoy era un lago en el que se levantaban
súbitas tormentas, en las que los vientos huracanados agitaban
olas enormes.
Pero estas fuerzas tan poderosas se someten a la voluntad de
Dios. Los marineros y los pescadores le tienen un saludable
respeto al poder de las aguas. Pero más todavía respetan el
poder del Creador del viento y del mar.

LA PALABRA DE DIOS HOY
Durante los últimos años hemos visto
tremendas destrucciones provocadas por tsunamis
y huracanes. Los grandes oleajes tienen un poder
destructivo que a veces van más allá de lo que
podemos imaginar. Podemos entender por qué los
discípulos, que en su mayoría eran pescadores,
pensaron que iban a perecer cuando un fuerte
viento se desató y las olas se estrellaban contra la
barca. Esta historia que nos cuenta el Evangelio de hoy nos puede
inspirar a volvernos al Señor cuando tenemos que enfrentar cosas
que nos dan miedo o que nos causan desesperación. No tengamos
miedo de pedirle a Dios que venga en nuestra ayuda,
particularmente cuando las tempestades de la preocupación, del
miedo y de la ansiedad empiezan a estrellar contra nuestra propia
vida.

"CANCIÓN A JUAN EL BAUTISTA"
A la orilla de un rio un hombre predicaba
y hablaba de otro hombre que estaba por llegar.
Era Juan el Bautista, era voz que gritaba
que llegaba la hora de la verdad.
HUBO UN HOMBRE ENVIADO POR DIOS,
ERA SU NOMBRE JUAN,
EL NO ERA LA LUZ, PERO VINO A REPARAR
LOS CAMINOS QUE CONDUCEN A JESUS.
A todo el que quería conocer los caminos
que Dios recorre a diario, hablando al corazón,
el Bautista le hablaba de amor y de justicia,
porque estaba a la puerta el Salvador.
Pero el hombre que hablaba de amor y de justicia,
fue un día encarcelado por capricho de un rey.
Su cabeza cortaron, su voz siguió gritando
los abusos de un hombre en el poder.
"BUENOS DÍAS OH PADRE"
Buenos días te damos, oh Padre,
celebrando tu santa palabra.
Te pedimos que Tu nos bendigas,
como haces a cada mañana.
Buenos días te damos tus hijos;
es hermoso oír que nos llamas.
Al igual que el pastor al rebano,
sus ovejas así las remansa.
