Queremos darle la bienvenida en nombre del Comité Científico y Ejecutivo del XII Simposio
Latinoamericano de Enfermedades de Depósito Lisosomal: "Diagnóstico Temprano y Tratamiento
específico: Claves para el cuidado de los pacientes".
Este encuentro que se realiza en Latinoamérica todos los años desde 1994, ha alcanzado el más
alto nivel de excelencia gracias al continuo aporte y participación de todos Ustedes, quienes son
las personas clave en la detección, tratamiento y cuidado de los pacientes con Enfermedades de
Depósito Lisosomal.
El Simposio de este año está destinado a ser una puesta al día de estas enfermedades e ir más
allá en el cuidado de los pacientes reafirmando la necesidad de la formación de equipos
multidisciplinarios.
Siguiendo cuatro ejes temáticos para las enfermedades de Gaucher, Fabry, MPS I y Pompe, se han
diseñado las siguientes sesiones:
 Diagnóstico y Tratamiento temprano.
 Monitoreo del cuidado de los pacientes con un acercamiento multidisciplinario.
 Optimización de la evolución del tratamiento.
 Presente y Futuro en el tratamiento de las Enfermedades de Depósito Lisosomal.
Este año, como los anteriores, contaremos con el valioso aporte y experiencia de Ustedes en las
tres sesiones de presentación de casos clínicos. Estas sesiones han sido ideadas para que todos
los especialistas compartan información personal sobre las cuatro patologías.

Papers submitted as Abstracts will be presented as Posters in two 1-hour sessions. These sessions
will be fully dedicated to posters visitation and discussion of their authors and the attendants, as
well as the members of the Jury assigned for that purpose. This portion of the Scientific Program
intends to facilitate the access of the entire audience to the different scientific articles.
Finally, in recognition of the best papers presented during the Closing Plenary Session, awards
will be conferred corresponding to the XII Latin American Symposium on Lysosomal Storage
Diseases.
On behalf of the Scientific and Executive Committee we expect your active involvement in this
Symposium and wish that this encounter will be once more an exchange place among colleagues,
also allowing you and us to continue with the efforts made by all of us towards caring for patients
and their families affected by Lysosomal Storage Diseases.

American Symposium on Lysosomal Storage Diseases: “Early Diagnosis and Specific Treatment:
Keys Aspects for Patients’ Care”.
Held each year in Latin America since 1994, this meeting has already reached the highest level of
excellence thanks to the continuous input and involvement of all of you, the key persons in
detection, treatment and care of patients with Lysosomal Storage Diseases.
This year’s Symposium is devised to review these diseases and go beyond patient management,
reaffirming the need to form a multidisciplinary team.
We have planned the sessions below along four thematic axes corresponding to Gaucher, Fabry,
MPS I and Pompe diseases:
 Early Diagnosis and Treatment.
 Monitoring patient care with a multidisciplinary approach.
 Optimizing the evolution of treatment.
 Present and Future in the treatment of Lysosomal Storage Diseases.
Similarly to previous years, this year we will count on your precious input and experience during
the three sessions of presentation of clinical cases. They were devised so that every specialist
attending the Symposium can share personal information on the four pathologies.

Transportation
Montevideo is the capital of Uruguay, and situated on the
Rio de la Plata. Population: 1,500,000.
Shuttles between official hotels and the symposium venue
are provided. At the lobby of each hotel you will find
information on the bus schedules to the venue and
information on the social activities. Please be at the lobby
on time to board the buses. If you miss your bus, you will
have to get to the Congress venue or the social activities
on your own (in the next page please find shuttle
timetables).
Climate
September is the beginning of springtime in Uruguay.
Temperature is still cool, ranging between 10º and 15º
Celsius, and it is usually quite windy. Sudden showers may
be expected. Warm clothes are recommended for the
evening, since the temperature drops considerably.

Parking will be available for Uruguayan attendees at the
Estacionamiento Juncal for Friday 14 evening, Saturday 15
and Sunday 15 September.
Uruguay continues to be a safe place for visitors. However,
visitors must take the normal security measures suggested
worldwide to ensure no incidents occur. For instance: use
the safety boxes in hotel rooms to keep your papers and
valuables, do not leave video or digital cameras lying around,
and take only duly identified or recommended
transportation.
