Appendix C: State codes
Latin American Migration Project (LAMP)
Nicaragua
The following lists provide states codes for all state variables. Users familiar with the Mexican
Migration Project (MMP) data set will notice that the same state codes used by the MMP for the
U.S. apply to this data set as well.
In this data set, Nicaragua and Costa Rica are considered separately from the United States and
their state codes correspond to departamentos and provincias, respectively.
The lists are divided into five sections: Generic codes; Nicaraguan states; Costa Rican states;
U.S. states; and other countries.

For all state variables, there exists a set of commonly used codes:
