EL PRESENTE CONTINUO
Es un tiempo verbal.
USO
Lo usamos para expresar lo que está pasando o estamos haciendo en el momento de hablar. En
español decimos que estamos haciendo una actividad ahora, en este momento.
Se usa normalmente con las expresiones de tiempo: NOW (ahora), RIGHT NOW (ahora mismo),
AT THE MOMENT o AT THIS MOMENT (en este momento).

At this moment I am learning the present continuous. = En este momento estoy aprendiendo
inglés.

Negativa
Niega el verbo auxiliar am, is, are con not, como estuviera solo y después pon la forma V-ING, que
es INVARIABLE:
I am not playing = I'm not playing.
We are not playing = We're not playing
She is not playing = She's not playing
Interrogativa (preguntas)
Invierte el verbo auxiliar am/is/are y el sujeto; es decir, pon primero el verbo am/is/are, después el
sujeto y después la forma v-ing.
Are you playing?


No, I am not.
Yes, I am.
Is Jorge playing?


No, he isn't.
Yes, he is.
Are Javi and Marta playing?


No, they aren't.
Yes, they are.
LA FORMA V-ING equivale en español aL GERUNDIO y se traduce por V-ANDO, V-IENDO
Para formarlo sigue unas reglas sencillas:
1) GENERAL: casi todos los
verbos:
Verbo + ing
play ---playing (jugando)
study---studying (estudiando)
2) Los verbos que acaban en
vocal + consonante
Doblan la consonante antes
de añadir -ing
run --- running
shop ---shopping
stop ---stopping
begin ---beginning
Cuidado, no doblan si se pronuncia
más fuerte la primera sílaba
'visit ---visiting
Cambian la ie por y antes
de añadir -ing
3) Los verbos que acaban en -e
Pierden la -e
.............
Cuidado, no pierden la e-, ni be
(ser/estar), ni see (ver)
4) Los verbos: tie, die, lie
live ---living (vivir - viviendo)
have -- having (tener -teniendo)
....................
be -- being (siendo, estando)
see --seeing (ver--viendo)
lie ---lying (tumbarse tumbado)
die --- dying (morir -muriendo)
tie --tying (atar --atando)
CUIDADO: Errores comunes:
1) Comerse el verbo auxiliar (am, is, are):
He playing. En lugar de He's playing
My mom cooking. En lugar de My mom is playing
I studying En lugar de I am playing
2) Comerse la "y" de algunos verbos:
I am studing. (studying)
The baby is cring. (crying)
