VI Sunday of Ordinary Time
Jesus Was Led
Into the Desert By the Power Of the Holy Spirit
At the River Jordan, the Holy Spirit, the power of God’s
Love, came upon Jesus who then led him into the desert
for 40 days of prayer—in communion with the Father.
Imagine Jesus, in prayer, struggling to confirm how he
could love the world into life. Imagine him being tempted
to do something that would prove the Father’s love—give
the people all the food they wanted, give them all the
riches of the world, or wow them with extraordinary
wonders. Imagine Jesus with the same struggles as we
have between “Doing” and “Being”. Jesus filled with the
Love of the Father, embraces “Being” in communion with
Love. Jesus in communion with the Father, in the power
of Love, heals those who have faith, he gives food to
those who are hungry in faith, accept his food from
heaven. Jesus healed the sick and raised the dead, but
only those persons with faith were able to recognize the
wonders of God. Those who lacked eyes of faith, with a
heart of stone, would say that Jesus healed in the power of
Satan, and eventually they would cry “Crucify him”.
As we begin our Lenten Season, we are called to recognize that with Jesus, each person is filled with the Holy
Spirit and called to live in His power. Yet in countless
ways we have lived a lie and acted with a heart of stone.
In the Power of the Holy Spirit we need to change our
hearts of stone to the Heart of Jesus. Pray for the grace of
the Holy Spirit to recognize the lies of Satan, and His
power to embrace the Truth of the Lord. GK
Catholic Cemeteries Help Finance the
Mission of the Church
Bishop Francis Mora in 1896 founded Calvary Cemetery
in the outskirts of Los Angeles, as a place of final rest for
Catholics. With an onsite chapel, Masses would be celebrated especially for all those buried there. By purchasing
cemetery property in a Catholic cemetery, the faithful
entrust the remains of loved ones “In the custody of an
organization of unquestionable integrity and endurance”
the Catholic Church. From the very beginning all understood that the price of the cemetery property would enable the Diocese of Los Angeles to maintain the cemetery
as well as to use the profits for the needs of the local
church. The profits from Calvary cemetery have been
used in the establishment of 10 other cemeteries, as well
as to support the church’s ministry. At the present state of
interments, the cemeteries will not be filled for 187 years,
at which time the fund would be used. In 2007 $115 million dollars were used towards the payment of the Scandal settlement.

"Jesus Fue Llevado Al Desierto Por El Poder
del Espíritu Santo
En el Río Jordán, el Espíritu Santo, el poder del amor de
Dios, se encontró con Jesús, que luego lo llevó al desierto
por 40 días de oración, en comunión con el Padre. Imaginese a Jesús en oración, luchando para confirmar cómo
podía amar al mundo a la vida. Imagíneselo con la tentación de hacer algo que demostrara el amor del Padre - darle a la gente toda la comida que querían, darle todas las
riquezas del mundo, o impresionarlos con maravillas extraordinarias. Imagine a Jesús con las mismas luchas que
tenemos nosotros mismos entre "Hacer" y "Ser". Jesús
lleno del Amor del Padre, acepta "Ser" en comunión de
amor. Jesús en comunión con el Padre, con la fuerza del
Amor, cura a aquellos que tienen fe, les da comida los
hambrientos en fe y aceptan su comida del cielo. Jesús
sanó a los enfermos y resucitó a los muertos, pero sólo las
personas con fe fueron capaces de reconocer las maravillas
de Dios. Los que carecían ojos de fe, con un corazón de
piedra, dirían que Jesús sanó en el poder de Satanás, y finalmente gritaban: "¡Crucifícalo".
Al comenzar nuestro período de Cuaresma, somos llamados a reconocer que con Jesús, cada persona está llena del
Espíritu Santo y llamada a vivir en su poder. Sin embargo,
en innumerables formas hemos vivido una mentira y actuamos con un corazón de piedra. En el Poder del Espíritu
Santo, tenemos que cambiar nuestro corazón de piedra al
Corazón de Jesús. Oremos por la gracia del Espíritu Santo
para reconocer las mentiras de Satanás y su poder para
aceptar la Verdad del Señor. GK
Miércoles de Ceniza ~ Día de Ayuno y Abstinencia
En 1896 Mons. Francisco Mora fundó el cementerio Calvary en las afueras de Los Angeles, como un lugar de descanso final para los católicos. Con una capilla en el sitio,
misas se celebran en especial para todos los que están enterrados allí. Con la compra de la propiedad en un cementerio católico, los fieles confían los restos de sus seres queridos "En la custodia de una organización de incuestionable integridad y resistencia" de la Iglesia Católica. Desde
el comienzo, todos comprendieron que el precio de la propiedad permitiría que la Diócesis de Los Ángeles pudiera
mantener el cementerio, así como poder utilizar las ganancias para las necesidades de las iglesias locales. Los beneficios del cementerio del Calvario se han utilizado en la
creación de 10 otros cementerios, así como para apoyar el

borrowing from the “Fund” the Archdiocese will be able
to support essential ministries in order to serve the People
of God. When you choose a Catholic Cemetery, you
choose to support all the needs of the People of God in

Pope Benedict XVI filled with the Holy Spirit...
has resigned and the Holy Spirit will guide the College of
Cardinals to elect a new Bishop of Rome. We are again
blessed by the Holy Spirit leading and guiding us in our
own days. We are a church of saints and sinners; we are
the Body of Christ enlivened in the power of the Holy
Spirit. The secular media cannot understand the Power of
God; by their standard the Church should have died with
the scandals. Yet in the Power of the Holy Spirit we will
see a stronger and enlivened Church. Year of Faith,

Celebrating Our Patron, St. Joseph
March 19th is the Feast Day of St. Joseph.
This year we would like to celebrate as a
community by having the St. Joseph Table
and a traditional Spaghetti Dinner on Saturday, March 16th in Redahan Hall. The
cost of the Dinner would be $5.00 for
Adults and $3.00 for children under
twelve. In order to cover expenses, we
should sell at least two hundred (200)
tickets in advance. If most of the Ministries would agree to purchase at least ten (10) PreSale tickets by February 28th, we would be able to
buy the necessary items to make this dinner a success. Any profit would go to the Poor, as this is the
goal of the St. Joseph Table. We would not only be
helping the needy during Lent, when we should be
practicing Alms-giving, but creating a relationship
within the Parish Community. More details to follow.

Celebrando A Nuestro Patrón, San José
El 19 de marzo es el día de la Fiesta de San
José. Este año queremos celebrar como una
comunidad teniendo la mesa de San José y
la tradicional Cena de espagueti el Sábado,
16 de Marzo en el Salón Redahan. El costo
de la cena es de $5.00 para adultos y $3.00
para niños menores de doce años. Con el
fin de cubrir los gastos, hay que vender por
lo menos doscientas (200) entradas por adelantado. Si la mayor parte de los Ministerios estuvieran de acuerdo en comprar al menos diez
(10) boletos por adelantado antes del 28 de febrero,
podríamos comprar lo necesarios para hacer que esta
cena sea un éxito. Cualquier beneficio iría a los pobres, ya que este es el objetivo de la Mesa de San
José. No sólo estaría ayudando a los necesitados durante la Cuaresma, cuando deberíamos estar practicando dar, pero la creación de una relación en la Comunidad Parroquial. Más detalles seguirán.

Fall 2013 school year. We also have openings
for Pre-School (3 years old) and PreKindergarten students (4 years old). Scholarships are available. To register a child you
may pick up an application in the school office from
8:30am-1:00pm, Monday through Friday. Please
bring with you the latest report card, original birth
certificate, baptism certificate, immunization record,
and a $50.00 registration fee per child.

The process of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is one of conversion
for those seeking Full Communion into the
Roman Catholic Church through the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist (Holy Communion). Baptized persons
who need Confirmation and/or First Communion are
also welcome. We meet on Sunday mornings at 8:30
a.m. in the Parish Center until twelve noon. Sessions
will NOT Meet on the 17thor the 24th. Sessions will
resume on March 3rd. You may obtain further information regarding our ongoing process by calling

El proceso del Rito de la Iniciación Cristiana de
Adultos (RICA) es uno de conversión para aquellos que buscan la plena comunión en la Iglesia
Católica Romana a través de los sacramentos del
Bautismo, de la Confirmación y de la Eucaristía
(Comunión). Las personas bautizadas que necesitan confirmación y/o Primera Comunión también son bienvenidos. Nos reunimos los domingos por la mañana a las
8:30am en el Centro Parroquial hasta las doce del mediodía NO tendremos clase el 17 o el 24. Las clases se

Weddings: Congratulations! Thank you for choosing
St. Joseph Church as the place to celebrate your marriage. Preparation takes approximately 6 months. To
begin the process it is necessary that the couple attend an information night. This meeting takes place
in our parish office once a month and is always the
second Monday of each month at 7:00 in the evening.
