Let´s start!
How are you doing so far? Sigamos en nuestra aventura del saber en el idioma inglés. Esta semana hablaremos acerca de la Vida Verde, un tema con el
que seguramente tienes familiaridad. Ahora podrás conocer vocabulario y expresiones en inglés para referirte a la protección de nuestro planeta.
Estudiaremos nuevas estructuras gramaticales que se usan para dar instrucciones y órdenes. Además, revisaremos las estructuras para expresar deber
y obligación. ¿Qué tipo de palabras utilizarías para expresar obligaciones o
deberes? Si tienes dudas, regresa a la semana 2 de este semestre y revisa la
información gramatical.

Let´s focus…
Enfoquémonos en las frases anteriores; nos referíamos a “deberes y obligaciones” que tenemos con nuestro planeta. Recuerda que utilizaste un verbo modal
para indicar o expresar obligaciones o deberes ¿sabes cuál es?
Ahora, escribe oraciones en inglés con las frases anteriores en inglés; esta
vez, expresarás tu deber u obligación. Sigue el ejemplo:

Como recordarás, cuando usamos
los verbos modales, se sigue esta
estructura:
Verbo modal + verbo infinitivo +
complementos
Now, let’s focus on new material! Esta semana, estudiaremos nuevas estructuras gramaticales que se usan para dar instrucciones y órdenes. Previamente
tradujiste al inglés algunas frases que expresaban órdenes o mandatos. ¿Cuál
es la estructura de esas frases?, ¿escribiste el sujeto como primer elemento?,
¿no escribiste sujeto?
Si no escribiste el sujeto, ¡tu respuesta fue correcta!
¡Salva al planeta!
Save the planet!
¡No contamines! Don’t pollute!
Esta forma verbal para dar órdenes o expresar un mandato, se llama “imperative”, o “imperativo” en español. Observa las siguientes oraciones y subraya
el verbo en cada una:
• Go green
• Close the loop
• Buy recycled
• Do not pollute
¿Estas oraciones tienen sujeto?
¿A qué persona se refiere cada verbo?
La estructura de estas frases es: verbo + complementos
Observa la última oración: Do not pollute. ¿Cuál sería su estructura?

La estructura de estas oraciones pertenece al modo imperativo. Podemos
expresarlo en forma afirmativa y en forma negativa. Como viste anteriormente, este tiempo se usa para dar órdenes o mandatos, recomendaciones o
instrucciones.
Al igual que el imperativo en español,
el imperativo en inglés no menciona
al sujeto, que generalmente es la segunda persona (tú - you), a quien se
le da la orden o la instrucción.
El imperativo tiene una sola persona para singular y plural, que se denomina
‘segunda persona de imperativo’:
Stop! / ¡Detente!
Wait! / ¡Espera!
Para la forma negativa, utilizamos ‘do not’ (don’t) antes del verbo:
Don’t stop! / ¡No pares!
El sujeto, cuando se incluye, normalmente figura al final de la frase:
Come here, John! / ¡Ven aquí, John!
Para las otras personas se emplea como auxiliar el verbo ‘to let’ (permitir,
dejar):
Let us write! / ¡Escribamos!
Let’s (let us) not go! / ¡No vayamos!
Normalmente, la segunda persona de imperativo se acompaña de ‘please’,
para hacer la expresión menos drástica.
Come here, please! / ¡Ven aquí, por favor!

También podemos usar el imperativo con predicciones en futuro. Por
ejemplo:
Do not use the knife; you will cut your hand.
No uses el cuchillo, te cortarás la mano.

Es hora de aprender más, para seguir cultivando tus conocimientos. En
tu DVD realiza las actividades propuestas para esta semana, como ejercicios y pasatiempos. Ahí encontrarás un juego muy entretenido: Hidden
picture-imperative.

1. Escribe las siguientes frases en forma imperativa siguiendo el
ejemplo:
a) The window is closed. Paul can open it. Open the window, Paul!
b) It’s time for Helen to get up.
c) I’d like Paul to turn down his radio.
d) I want Paul to bring me a newspaper.
e) I don’t want Helen to be late tonight.
2. Ahora, hagamos predicciones sobre daños al planeta si no tomamos conciencia. Sigue el ejemplo:

3. A continuación, utilizarás el imperativo para dar las instrucciones
a seguir en materia de protección ambiental. Cambia al imperativo
las oraciones en negritas que encuentres en el texto a continuación.
Reduce, Reuse and Recycle [the three R’s of the
environment]
It takes 60 trees just to frame a new house. By remodeling using the
same wood frame, we will save a minimum of 60,000,000 trees, significantly reducing smog and overall air pollution and reducing its harmful effects on us ranging from minor pain to deadly respiratory and
lung diseases such as lung cancer.
By using just two water conservation methods such as high efficiency toilets and energy efficient faucets, together we can save
3,002,200,000 gallons of water per year.
By installing solar panels, we will avoid putting 84,000,000,000 metric
tons of carbon emissions into the atmosphere each year which will have
a positive effect on the hole in the ozone layer.
By implementing friendly ventilation systems will eliminate the use
of interior finishes that release toxins, significantly increasing the quality of indoor air.
By using energy efficient systems, we will save 45 Billion pounds of
carbon dioxide emissions each year, reducing global warming on Earth.
Taking your own bags to the grocery store is the way you will avoid
using plastic bags. Use biodegradable bags instead of plastic ones,
which are responsible for blocking drains and harming our wildlife both marine and land-based animals.

Let´s show what we know…
Demuestra tus conocimientos realizando las actividades propuestas. Aquí
evaluarás tu propio desempeño y el de tus compañeros. No olvides buscar en
tu DVD las actividades de esta semana.
1. Imagina que eres quien dirige tu CCA y debes comenzar una campaña
de concientización sobre la conservación del medio ambiente dentro
de la comunidad. Escribe en inglés una lista con las instrucciones (en
imperativo) que las personas deben seguir para lograrlo.
2. Escribe un slogan en inglés, algo así como una frase que sirva de
propaganda para tu plan de conservación, donde expreses el deber
u obligación que tenemos todos de conservar el ambiente. Piénsalo
primero en español y luego tradúcelo. Presenta tu slogan y tu lista a
tus compañeros en el CCA.
Ejemplos: Debemos hacer algo ahora; el planeta no tiene más tiempo.
