COMUNICADO DE LA COMUNIDAD DE ESTADOS LATINOAMERICANOS Y CARIBEÑOS SOBRE EL REESTABLECIMIENTO DE LAS RELACIONES DIPLOMÁTICAS ENTRE LA REPÚBLICA DE CUBA Y LOS ESTADOS UNIDOS DE AMERICA C.014-2014 Frente a la decisión anunciada el día 17 de diciembre de 2014 por los Gobiernos de la República de Cuba y de los Estados Unidos de América de restablecer las relaciones diplomáticas, los Estados de la Comunidad de Estados Latinoamericanos y Caribeños: En un momento histórico para nuestra Comunidad y la comunidad internacional, celebramos la decisión de restablecer las relaciones diplomáticas por el Presidente Raúl Castro Ruz y el Presidente Barack Obama, la cual constituye un paso positivo para la completa normalización de las relaciones entre ambos países. Damos la bienvenida a la voluntad manifestada por ambos países de fomentar un diálogo franco y amplio en diversos temas de interés bilateral. Manifestamos nuestra complacencia por la determinación de Cuba y de los Estados Unidos de América de abrir Embajadas en ambos países. Hacemos votos porque ésta sea una señal inequívoca del anhelado fin del bloqueo económico, comercial y financiero que ha afectado a Cuba y su pueblo por décadas. Saludamos la liberación mutua de presos que cumplían condenas en cárceles de Cuba y EE.UU. como medida humanitaria que contribuye a generar un clima de confianza. Felicitamos a Cuba y Estados Unidos por su contribución en la construcción de una región de paz y diálogo, que permitan avanzar hacia nuevos espacios de entendimiento en el hemisferio. Confiamos en que este anuncio contribuirá a fortalecer el diálogo político regional y a renovar la cooperación hemisférica en beneficio de nuestros pueblos. San José, 18 de diciembre de 2014 CELAC COMMUNIQUÉ ON THE REESTABLISHMENT OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS BETWEEN THE REPUBLIC OF CUBA AND THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA C.014-2014 In due regard to the decision announced on December 17th, 2014 by the Governments of the Republic of Cuba and the United States of America to reestablish diplomatic relations, the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States: As an historic moment for our Community and the international Community, we celebrate this decision of reestablishment of diplomatic relations announced by President Raúl Castro Ruz and President Barack Obama, which is a positive step for the complete normalization of relations between the two countries. We welcome the will expressed by both countries to promote a dialogue in various issues of bilateral interest. We express our satisfaction on the determination of Cuba and the United States to open up embassies in both countries. We expect this will be a clear signal to put an end to the economic, trade and financial blockade that has affected Cuba and its people for many decades. We welcome the mutual release of prisoners serving sentences in prisons in Cuba and the United States of America as a humanitarian measure that helps create a climate of confidence. We congratulate Cuba and the United States of America for their contribution in the construction of a region of peace and dialogue, moving towards new areas of understanding in the hemisphere. We trust this announcement will contribute to strengthen the regional political dialogue and renew hemispheric cooperation in benefit of our peoples. San José, December 18th, 2014
