Coordinator in Mexico, Colombia and Central America of the International Global
Urban Research Initiative (GURI) Project, promoted by the University of Toronto,

Visiting professor at MIT, the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars,
Washington, DC, and the University of Michigan (1990, 1996, and 2005).
Vice President of the Research Committee on Urban Studies of the International
Sociology Association and more recently vice president of the Research Forum, Rome,
Italy.
Citizens’ representative on the Governing Board of the Mexico City Social Agency and
Environmental Agency (elected by the local congress) 2001-2007

studies and CEDUA doctoral programs.
Publications.
Over 200 articles published in journals in Mexico, other Latin American countries
(Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Costa Rica, El Salvador,
Brazil), the United States, Canada, and a number of European countries (Spain, France,
England, Italy and Sweden). Twenty-two books published as author or coordinator.
