Throughout this unit, your children
will learn all about insects. They
will learn that insects have three
body parts, six legs, and two
antennae, and some have
two wings. We will also
discuss how most
insects go through
a metamorphosis.
They will learn that
some insects bite and
some sting.
Literacy and Math Skills
Every day your children will learn new
vocabulary words and use them to express
ideas. They will listen to stories, discuss the
big ideas, and practice numeracy skills. In
this unit, children will begin to—
• blend the initial sound and ending part
of a word.
• make comparisons across texts.

• use objects to solve addition and
subtraction problems.

Connect Learning
at School and Home
Families can encourage early language,
literacy, and numeracy development by—
• reading and discussing stories with
their child.
• asking children to make comparisons
between stories.
• reviewing shapes with children.
• inviting children to count up to
15 objects.

niño.
