Our Journal
Chungara Revista de Antropología Chilena (The Journal of Chilean Anthropology, printed
ISSN 0716-1182; online ISSN 0717-7356) was founded in 1972 by the Departamento de
Antropología of Universidad del Norte and has been systematically published since then.
Currently, it is printed in four issues per volume annually by the Departamento de Antropología,
Universidad de Tarapacá, Arica Chile.
Chungara p
ublishes original articles in the different fields of anthropology and other associated sciences
that include cultural or social anthropology, archaeology, bioarchaeology, ethnobotany,
ethnohistory, geography, geology, geoarchaeology, history, linguistics, paleoecology, semiotics,
zooarchaeology, conservation of cultural materials, and museology.
The geographic scope of the journal does not focus exclusively on Andean studies, as we
accept manuscripts from other regions with comparative theoretical and methodological aims.
The editorial structure of the journal includes the following sections: Editorial, Obituaries and
In Memoriam, Scientific Articles in the form of Synthetic Manuscripts, Monographic Reports,
Essays, Scientific Notes, Letters to the Editors, Debates, Comments on Articles published in
Chungara
, and Book Reviews, both in Spanish and English.
Manuscripts should be uploaded through the Web page or may be submitted in electronic
form and sent at any time. Authors must sent the manuscripts with text in upper and lower case
letters, double spaced, 8.5 x 11 inch paper with 1 inch margins, and no more than 7,200 words.
Manuscripts will be printed in the order of acceptance. The dates of receipt and acceptance of
the manuscript are indicated in a footnote on the first page of the papers published, below
author affiliations. The Editorial Committee and at least three peer reviewers critically analyze
the manuscripts submitted. To prepare their manuscripts the authors must follow the editorial

instructions of Chungara that may be requested from the editorial office or from the Web page
(www.chungara.cl).
Form of citation: The journal must be quoted as Chungara Revista de Antropología Chilena
in reference list, footnote, and bibliographic references.
