ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT
Associations Swing for Charity (ASFC) Golf Tournament was founded in
2014 by a group of long-time Sacramento area association executives and
vendors. The three-fold purpose of the tournament is to: 1) Provide a unique
environment for industry suppliers to mix and mingle with the who’s who of
the Sacramento association community; 2) Raise needed funds for a local
charity; 3) Recognize a deserving individual.
Year one was a tremendous success. Everyone participating had a fun,
memorable experience. A sizeable amount of money was given to our
selected charity for the year, and retired association executive Chuck Maltese
was appropriately feted and roasted by long-time friends and family.
The California Society of Association Executives (CalSAE) partnered with
ASFC in 2014. ASFC is pleased to again have CalSAE partner with us in 2015
and we welcome four new partners—Meeting Professionals International,
Sacramento-Sierra Chapter (MPISSN), Corporate Event Marketing
Association (CEMA), Professional Convention Management Association,
Northern California Chapter (PCMA), and the Society of Government
Meeting Planners, Sacramento Chapter (SGMP).
Our 2015 honoree is Steve Hamilton, who is being honored posthumously.
Steve was the driving force behind the founding of the Associations Swing
for Charity Golf Tournament. Our 2015 recipient charity, Christmas Promise, is a charity Steve was intimately involved with for decades.
ABOUT OUR CHARITY
Christmas Promise is a non-profit organization staffed 100% by volunteers.
Since 1981, this project, with the support of the businesses and citizens of
the Sacramento area, has brought joy to thousands of our needier neighbors.
Through referrals from local health and service agencies, “Dear Santa” letters are collected from young children who are the community’s neediest.
Many of the letters received are from children asking for a couple of things
for themselves, but the majority of the letters ask for needed items for
moms, dads, grandparents and siblings. The Christmas Promise volunteers
then set out to fulfill those lists through various contribution methods (cash,
new item contributions, etc.).
After all of the items are purchased, wrapped, sorted, and bagged, Christmas
Promise volunteers don Santa outfits on Christmas Eve and personally deliver the items. Scores of these volunteers have been playing the Santa role for
many, many years—Steve Hamilton was one of them!
OUR HONOREE
Steve Hamilton was an icon in the
association community for more
than 35 years. He served as the
executive director for some of the
state’s premier trade and
professional associations prior to
he and his partner, Debbe Dreher,
purchasing Association Resource
Center (ARC). Under Steve’s
guiding hand, ARC became one of
the State’s premier association
management companies and
unquestionably the Sacramento
area’s largest.
Besieged by health issues for the
last few years, Steve succumbed
to the final one on October 28,
2014.

will receive a full refund. After the cancellation deadline, no refunds granted
unless replacement sponsor is found and all sponsorships of that category
have been sold.
