Estos pronombres funcionan en la oración como sujeto. Deben concordar con el verbo en número y persona. 2. I siempre se escribe con mayúscula. El resto sólo cuando inician la oración. 3. En inglés el sujeto es siempre necesario y, por lo tanto, obligatorio. Los verbos apenas tienen variaciones y es el sujeto el que nos comenta quién lleva a cabo la acción. 4. Cuando usemos he, she, it el verbo necesitará una -s extra con la mayoría de los verbos. Palabras interrogativas What ¿Qué? Where ¿Dónde? How ¿Cómo? Se usan para preguntar sobre: 1. What: cosas. 2. Where: lugares. 3. How: la manera o el modo. El verbo to be to be (ser / estar) I am Yo soy / Yo estoy You are Tu eres / tu estás He is Él es / Él está She is Ella es / Ella está It is Ello es / Ello está We are Nosotros somos / Nosotros estamos You are Vosotros sois / Vosotros estáis They are Ellos son / Ellos están 1. Este verbo tiene dos significados en español: ser y estar. 2. También se usa para expresar: • la edad. Example: They are 16 years old. Tienen 16 años. • la temperatura. Example: It is 15 ºC. I am hot. Hace 15 ºC. Tengo calor. • ciertas sensaciones. Example: He is thirsty. Está sediento. 94 Anexo - Appendix Ejercicios Traduce al español las frases siguientes: 1. He is 25 years old. 2. Yes, you are / No, you aren´t Yes, they are / No, they aren´t Forma negativa Para construir la forma negativa del verbo to be sólo necesitas colocar not detrás del verbo. Cuando hablamos se utilizan las formas contractas del verbo. También las vamos a encontrar por escrito. En nuestro cuadro hemos contraído la negación al verbo, salvo en la primera persona del singular en la que el verbo se ha contraído con el sujeto. Por lo tanto, hay dos posibilidades de llevar a cabo la contracción. Example: I am not a doctor. I´m not a doctor. 95 Anexo - Appendix Forma interrogativa La forma interrogativa del verbo se construyes colocando la forma correspondiente del verbo to be delante del pronombre sujeto. Example: Are you a doctor? Yes, I am. / No, I´m not. Respuestas cortas Interrogative Short answers affirmative Short answers negative Am I…? Yes, I am No, I am not Are you…? Nos muestran a quién pertenece lo que califican. Al contrario que en español, los adjetivos nunca varían. Example: My friend is Spanish. Mi amigo es español. Example: My friends are Spanish. My brother isn’t 25 years old. 2. They aren’t in the park. 3. How are you today? 4. (Example: observa la tabla). Puede aparecer sin got y entonces su significado varía: Example: I have a bath. Tomo un baño. Observa con cuidado la tercera persona (he, she, it). El verbo presenta una variación: has en lugar de have. Nombres contables e incontables Countables Singular Plural apple apples book books Uncountables bread, butter Los nombres contables son aquellos que podemos contar. Son cantidades bien definidas. Los encontramos tanto en singular como en plural. Example: A pen / Two pens. Un bolígrafo / Dos bolígrafos. Los nombres incontables aparecen en singular y no pueden ser contabilizados colocando un número delante de ellos. No podemos decir: Example: Two milks. Pero sí podemos decir: Example: Some milk. Un poco de leche. 99 Anexo - Appendix There is a… / There are some… There is a… (nombres contables singular) There is a television in the kitchen There is some… (nombres incontables) There is some coke in the fridge There are some… (nombres contables plural) There are some books in the sitting room There is y There are significan «hay» en español. Usamos there is seguido de nombres singulares contables e incontables, mientras que there are es usado seguido de nombres contables en plural. (Observa la tabla y sus ejemplos). Si en una oración encontramos nombres en singular y en plural, usamos la forma correspondiente al primero de ellos: Example: There is a book and two pens on the table. Hay un libro y dos bolígrafos en la mesa. Ejercicios Traduce al español las frases siguientes: 1. There is some cake in the kitchen. 2. He’s got three sisters. 3. I’ve got three sisters, too. 4. Esa es una buena idea. 100 Anexo - Appendix Unidad 5 Forma interrogativa To have got Have I, you, we, they got long hair? Short answers ¿Tengo el pelo largo? Has he, she, it got long hair? Yes, I, you, we, they have / No, I haven´t Yes, he, she, it has / No, he hasn´t La forma interrogativa de este verbo se construye colocando have o has delante del pronombre sujeto. (Observa la tabla). De nuevo debes prestar atención al cambio que se produce con los pronombres he, she, it. El verbo que necesitamos en estos casos es has. Forma negativa To have got I, you, we, they haven´t got any money No tengo dinero He, she, it hasn´t got any money No tiene dinero La forma negativa del verbo se contruye colocando not entre have o has y got. Esta negación puede aparecer contracta también, como en los ejemplos de la tabla anterior. There is / are Forma interrogativa Is there...? / are there...? Interrogativa Short form Negativa Is there...? Yes, there is There isn´t Are there...? No, there aren´t There aren´t Uno de los componentes de esta forma es el verbo to be. Al igual que con este verbo, para preguntar por dónde están ciertas cosas o personas, sólo tenemos que colocar la forma correspondiente is o are delante de there. Example: Is there a boy in the street? ¿Hay un chico en la calle? Example: Are there some books on the table? ¿Hay libros en la mesa? Para responder podemos usar una respuesta corta también como en la tabla anterior. 101 Anexo - Appendix Ejercicios Traduce al español las frases siguientes: 1. I go to the cinema on Sunday. 2. Cats sleep at night. 3. My birthday is on 6th of March. 4. Have you got any sugar? 5. I have some fruit but no milk. 6. You are so nice. Aunque ya se ha visto anteriormente, es muy importante tener en cuenta que cuando usemos las personas he, she, it, añadiremos un -s o -es, dependiendo del tipo de verbo que usemos. Si el verbo termina en -s, -ss, -tch, -ch, -x, añadiremos -es al verbo. También añadiremos -es si el verbo es monosílabo y termina en -o: go Lo haremos si esl verbo termina en -y precedida de una consonante: study. La -y se modifica a -i. 102 Anexo - Appendix Example: He watches TV on Monday. Ve la TV los lunes. Example: The dog goes to the park with its owner. El perro va al parque con su dueño. Example: She studies a lot. Estudia mucho. Example: She reads many books. Lee muchos libros. En inglés es obligatorio colocar el sujeto en cada oración aunque en español no se exprese. Tan sólo tenemos que añadir las actividades que nos gusta realizar al verbo like, hate, love. La estructura es la siguiente: sujeto + like + actividad que nos gusta. (Observa la tabla). Cuando lo que nos gusta es una actividad, el verbo que la expresa termina en -ing y se coloca detrás de like, hate, love. Ejercicios Traduce al español las frases siguientes: 1. She gets up at 8.00 a.m. 2. I go to the cinema once a week. 3. She loves shopping. 4. They watch TV in the evening. 5. We take photos of our friends at the weekend. 6. Se coloca justo detrás del pronombre sujeto. (Observa la tabla anterior). Como ves, puede aparecer de forma completa o contracta. De nuevo hay que prestar mucha atención a las formas he, she, it. Con estos pronombres necesitamos utilizar doesn´t para construir una oración negativa. Con el resto de los pronombres usamos don´t. Forma interrogativa Do I, you, we, they speak English? Short answers Yes, I do / No, I don´t Does he, she, it speak English? Short answers Yes, he does / No, he doesn´t Para formar oraciones interrogativas en inglés, necesitamos el verbo do o does. Éste se coloca delante del pronombre sujeto, tal y como se aprecia en la tabla anterior. La única -s será la del verbo auxiliar does. En el verbo principal no la necesitamos. Las respuestas que obtenemos con este tipo de preguntas son o bien afirmativas, o negativas (Yes / No). 104 Anexo Anexo -- Dictionary Appendix Cuando utilizamos una palabra interrogativa (what, where, when, how, who), ésta se coloca delante del verbo do o does. Example: Where do you come from? ¿De dónde eres? Las repuesta que obtenemos en estos casos no es yes o no, sino que es una respuesta con información más detallada. Example: I come from China. Soy de China. Como ya sabemos, no usaremos nunca do y does con los verbos to be y to have got. Ejercicios Traduce al español las frases siguientes: 1. I don’t get up early. 2. What do you like? 3. Normalmente va acompañado de expresiones como: now ahora at the moment en este momento today hoy Para formar el presente continuo usamos to be + vb-ing. El verbo que sufre modificaciones es to be, el resto del verbo no se modifica. Para formar el participio añadimos al verbo -ing. Algunos verbos sufren modificaciones: 1. Los verbos de una sola sílaba duplican la consonante final: put ➛ putting. 2. Los verbos que terminan en -e, la pierden cuando adquieren -ing: love ➛ loving. 3. Los verbos que terminan en -ie, pierden estas dos vocales y adquieren la y seguida de -ing die ➛ dying. Present continuous negative I am not having a coffee I’m not having a coffee You are not doing your homework You aren’t doing your homework We are not cooking dinner We aren’t cooking dinner They are not going to bed late They aren’t going to bed late (3ª persona del singular) Present simple negative He is not watching TV now He isn’t watching TV now She is not having lunch at home She isn’t having lunch at home The cat (It) is not sleeping It isn’t sleeping El plural de los nombres comunes Normalmente se añade –s o -es al singular: boy-boys girl-girls tomato-tomatoes potato-potatoes box-boxes church-churches 106 Anexo - Appendix Pero hay plurales irregulares: foot-feet tooth-teeth mouse-mice man-men Ejercicios Traduce al español las frases siguientes: 1.
