Dear Family,
In our math class, we are studying algebra, functions, and graphs.
Your child will explore exponents, prime factorization, order of
operations, and functions to write and solve expressions, equations,
and inequalities. Your child will then apply what he or she knows to
solving real-world problems that involve one and two operations.
In addition, your child will use the first quadrant of the
coordinate plane to graph functions and extend a graph to solve
problems. An example is shown below.

You can be an active part of your child’s learning by asking your
child to provide answers or examples for the following questions:
• What does 43 equal? What does the exponent tell you?
• What is the prime factorization of 12?
• What algebraic expression describes “4 more than 2 times c?”
• What is the function rule for the table shown above?

Estimada familia:
En nuestra clase de matemáticas estamos estudiando álgebra,
funciones y gráficas. Su hijo/a explorará exponentes, factorización
prima, orden de las operaciones y funciones para poder escribir y
resolver expresiones, ecuaciones y desigualdades. Su hijo/a luego
aplicará lo que ha aprendido para resolver problemas de la vida
diaria que incluyan una o dos operaciones.
Además, su hijo/a usará el primer cuadrante del plano de
coordenadas para graficar funciones y ampliar una gráfica para
resolver problemas. A continuación mostramos un ejemplo.
