To the Elizabeth Neuffer Memorial Prize “Journey to the Heart of Bolivia” - English draft “Viaje al Corazón de Bolivia” (“Journey to the Heart of Bolivia”) was an initiative of Página Siete daily and UN office in Bolivia. They were published 25 stories sent during the six months trip (between July and December 2011) by three reporters and three photographers throughout Bolivia. Three social researches were sent by UN to complete the reports. The reporters, photographers and researches had to visit one Bolivian town per week, travelling by bus, canoe, horse or train, and then send their stories and pictures to be published in the Sunday magazine of the daily. The broad objective of the trip was to offer a view of the reality of Bolivian small towns, many of which are not even on the maps. The writers and photographers, moving from one location to another, became a sort of successors of the Colonial explorers but instead of bearing compasses and telescopes carried GPS equipment and digital cameras. UN and Página Siete daily developed a special website so that surfers could continue the trip every week (www.paginasiete.bo). In each report, the Bolivian UN office published the most relevant social and economic indicators of the locations visited and the surrounding municipalities. The trip allowed to display the work of the UN in Bolivia and, simultaneously, provide a complex and vibrant portrait of the XXI Century Bolivia. The editor in chief of the Página Siete daily, journalist Raúl Peñaranda, planned and supervised the project. Para el premio Elizabeth Neuffer Memorial Viaje al Corazón de Bolivia – Sinopsis en español “Viaje al Corazón de Bolivia” fue una iniciativa del diario Página Siete y de la oficina de NNUU en Bolivia. Representó una serie de 25 reportajes sobre el viaje de seis meses de duración (entre julio y diciembre de 2011) realizado por tres cronistas y tres fotógrafos a través de todo el territorio boliviano. NNUU envió a investigadores sociales para completar los reportes. Los cronistas y fotógrafos debían visitar una localidad boliviana por semana, en un viaje por bus, canoa, caballo y tren, y luego enviar sus textos y fotos para ser publicados en la revista dominical Miradas del diario Página Siete. El objetivo del extenso viaje fue dar a conocer al público la realidad de pequeñas localidades bolivianas, muchas de las cuales no figuran siquiera en los mapas. Los cronistas y fotógrafos, al viajar de una localidad a otra y enviar sus reportes, se convirtieron en una especie de sucesores de los exploradores de siglos anteriores pero en vez de portar brújulas y catalejos llevaron equipos de GPS y cámaras digitales. Se desarrolló un sitio web especial para que los usuarios pudieran seguir el viaje semana a semana (www.paginasiete.bo). En cada reportaje, la oficina boliviana de NNUU publicaba los más relevantes indicadores sociales y económicos de las localidades visitadas y los municipios circundantes. El viaje permitió conocer el trabajo de NNUU en Bolivia y, a la vez, ofrecer un retrato complejo y vibrante de la Bolivia del Siglo XXI. El director del diario Página Siete, el periodista Raúl Peñaranda, ideó y supervisó el proyecto.
