ACTIVITY TITLE: HOME SWAPPING
AIM OF THE ACTIVITY: Boost vocabulary while practicing reading comprehension and speaking skills
ESTIMATED DURATION: 45minutes session
MATERIALS NEEDED: Copies of students’ attached documents and blackboard
ATTACHED DOCUMENTS: Students’ sheets and key for the teacher.
SUGGESTED LEVEL: B1-B2
PROCEDURE
1.- INTRODUCTION: ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF SWAPPING HOMES ON HOLIDAYS (10
min)
The teacher throws the following questions to the class: What advantages may home swapping have?
What problems may that bring? Do we know of anybody who has participated in such activity?
2.- MIRIAM DOS SANTOS’ STORY (15 min)
Miriam has participated in a home swapping activity. In pairs, students have to take a look at the
comic strip and figure out what has happened. Then the class puts in common the different ideas.
3.- READING MIRIAM’S COMPLAINT LETTER TO YOUR HOME-MY HOME (10 min)
The class reads the letter (teacher must correct pronunciation mistakes). Students have to underline
the problems described by Miriam.
4.- MEETING BETWEEN MIRIAMAND A REPRESSENTATIVE FROM YOURHOME-MYHOME.COM
(10 min)
In pairs, students represent a role play following the instructions on the attached document,
