Some are inland and others are coastal. Some are flat and others are mountainous. En la tierra hay diferentes tipos de paisaje. Algunos son interiores y otros costeros. Algunos son planos y otros montañosos. Natural phenomena change landscapes: Rain, wind, snow, volcanoes, earthquakes and floods… Los fenómenos naturales cambian los paisajes: La lluvia, el viento, la nieve, volcanes, terremotos, riadas… Human activity change landscapes too: Planting fields, building roads, bridges, railways… Human activity can damage the environment (rubbish, factories, cutting down trees) La actividad humana cambia también los paisajes: Plantar campos, construir carreteras, puentes, líneas de ferrocarril… La actividad humana puede dañar el medio ambiente (basura, fábricas, talar árboles). A mountain is a landform that sticks up above the land around it. A hill is a small mountain. • Several mountains in a line form a mountain range. • Several mountain ranges form a mountain system. • A valley is low land between mountains. Rivers usually flow through valleys. Una montaña es una formación que se eleva sobre el terreno. Una colina es una montaña pequeña. • Varias montañas forman una cadena montañosa. • Varias cadenas montañosas forman un sistema montañoso. • Un valle es una parte de terreno más bajo entre montañas. Los ríos normalmente fluyen en los valles. A plain is a large area of flat land at sea level. • A plateau is a plain that is more than 200 meters above sea level. • A depression is a plain that is lower than the land around it. Una planicie es una gran extensión de terreno llano a nivel del mar. • Una meseta es una planicie que está a una altitud superior a 200 metros sobre el nivel del mar. • Una depresión es una planicie que está más baja que una extensión de terreno que lo rodea. The coast is the part of the land that is next to the sea or the ocean. Some coastlines are straight and others are irregular. La costa es una parte de tierra que está al lado del mar o del océano. Algunas líneas de costa son rectas y otras son irregulares. • Headland: land that sticks out into the sea. Cabo: Trozo de tierra que se mete en el mar. • Bay: area of sea that cuts into the land. Bahía: Parte de mar que se mete en la tierra. • Peninsula: land surrounded by the sea on all sides, except one. Península: Tierra completamente rodeada de mar excepto en un sitio. • Island: land completely surrounded by the sea. Isla: Tierra completamente rodada de mar. • Archipelago: group of islands in the same area. Archipiélago: Grupo de islas.
