What is RCIA?
The Rite of Christian Initiation of
Adults is the way that the Catholic
Church helps people prepare for
adult Catholic Life.
The RCIA is the modern form of the
”catechumenate” of the early days of the
Church. Becoming Christian is the first
five centuries involved a sharp break
with the surrounding Roman culture.
New Catholic Christians entered into a
way of living which demanded deep
commitment and ofter risked their lives
to come Christian. In the modern world,
our faith also demands deep commitment—- our beliefs and the beliefs of the
society are often at tension. The Church
revived the catechumenate—embodied
in the RCIA—because new believers in
the modern world need thorough and
complete preparation and caring support
as they enter into the mysteries of Christ
and the commitment of Christian living.
How does it work?
Step One:
Meet with an RCIA team member who
will help you get started. When you
begin the process there is no obligation
on your part. The first meetings are
called inquiry and they are a good
chance for you to ask questions, and
receive the good news of Catholic
Christian life and open the way spiritual
growth.

inherit eternal life?” Mark

Jesus calls us to eternal life through
discipleship. This radical conversion
(or change of heart) that Jesus calls
us to is the essence of Christian life.
RCIA is one way the Church lives
out this gospel scene today as Jesus
calls each person to “come follow
me.” (MK 10:21)
Jesus’ answer to the rich young
man’s question above is the same
answer he gives to everyone who
seeks him.
Step two:
At the Rite of Acceptance (for the
unbaptized), those who are ready may
enter into a deeper relationship with
the Church and begin the formal
preparations for the Sacraments of
Initiation, Baptism, Confirmation, and
Holy Communion. Those who are
already baptized are received
throughout the year once they have
completed their preparation and are
ready.
Leave behind the things of this
world so that you may be fully
incorporated into the family of God.
The RCIA team of dedicated
volunteers are here to help you. In
the RCIA community, together we
discover the answers, together we
carry the cross, together we follow
Jesus. His grace makes all things
possible.

Que es el RICA?
El Rito de Iniciación Cristiana para
Adultos es la manera en que la Iglesia
Católica ayuda a prepar a adultos para la
Vida Católica.
El RCIA es la forma moderna del
"catecumenado" de los primeros días de
la Iglesia. Convertirse en Cristiano en los
primeros cinco siglos, constituía un gran
rompimiento con todo lo relacionado a la
cultura Romana. Los nuevos Católicos
Cristianos empezaron una manera de
vivir donde demandaban un profundo
compromiso y muy seguido arriesgaban
sus vidas por convertirse en cristianos. En
nuestro mundo moderno, nuestra fe
también demanda un gran compromiso -nuestras creencias y las creencias de la
sociedad están en constante tensión. La
Iglesia cree que el catecumenado plasmado en el RCIA - porque los nuevos
creyentes del mundo moderno necesitan
pasar y completar la preparación y el
apoyo cuidadoso mientras se les
presentan los misterios de Cristo y el
compromiso de la vida Cristiana.
¿Cómo trabaja?
“Maestro, ¿qué debo hacer para

Jesús nos llama a la vida eterna a
través del discípulado. Esta conversión radical (o cambio de corazón) al que Jesús nos llama es la
esencia de la vida Cristiana. El RCIA
es una manera en que la Iglesia vive
el Evangelio de hoy, así Jesús llama a
cada persona "ven y sígueme".
(Marcos 10:21).
La respuesta de Jesús a la pregunta
del joven rico, es la misma
respuesta que el le da a cada uno
que lo busca.
En el Rito de la Aceptación (para los no
bautizados), para los que ya están listos
podrán empezar una relación más profunda
con la Iglesia y empezar una formación más
formal para los Sacramentos de Iniciación,
Bautismo, Confirmación y Santa Comunión.
Para los que ya han sido bautizados,
recibirán durante el año una vez que hayan
terminado la preparación y estén listos.
Deja atrás las cosas de este mundo
para que puedas ser completamente
parte de la familia de Dios. El equipo
del RCIA, de voluntarios dedicados,
están aquí para ayudarte. En la
comunidad del RCIA, juntos
descubrimos las respuestas, juntos
cargamos la cruz, juntos seguimos a
Jesús. Su gracia hace todo posible.
