National Certification Standards
As lay ministry grows in both prominence and regularity, national Catholic organizations have drafted certification
standards moving toward the goal that all lay ministers continue to be provided effective formation to ensure their
success in ministry. These five certification standards are the essential competencies for lay ministers in ecclesial
ministry.
Certification Standard One: Personal & Spiritual Maturity. This standard addresses things such as
balanced lifestyle, positive self-image and appropriate relationships. It includes discernment, regular
prayer, ongoing study, and integrated spirituality.
Certification Standard Two: Lay Ecclesial Ministry Identity. This standard addresses both the
recognition of one’s own call to public ministry and the identification of that call with God. It includes the
integration of ministerial goals with Gospel values, maintaining a support system, the ability to model
ecclesial ministry on the ministry of Jesus, and identification with the universal church.
Certification Standard Three: Catholic Theology. This standard encompasses knowledge of the Catholic
faith. It includes knowledge and personal integration of Scripture, tradition, Christology, theology of
church, liturgy, sacramental theology, pastoral ministry, moral theology, spirituality, and ecumenism. Certification Standard Four: Pastoral Praxis. This standard encompasses the ways that ministry is lived
out. It includes pastoral care, catechesis, multicultural sensitivities, applying a family perspective, and
empowering others in their own faith.
Certification Standard Five: Professional Practices. This standard encompasses the specific details and
skills needed in ministry. It includes leadership skills, organization, administration, collaboration, and a
spirit of discipleship.
Most workshops and keynote sessions at Fall Conference are identified as corresponding to one of the certification
standards. You may use this information to reflect on whether your participation in Fall Conference is
comprehensive in regards to the standards. You may also refer to the identified standards in preparation of a
certification portfolio.

Certificación Nacional
creciendo el ministerio laico tanto en prominencia como en regularidad, las organizaciones
Católicas nacionales han redactado estándares de certificación que se mueven hacia el objetivo
de proporcionar a ministros laicos formación eficaz para asegurar su éxito en el ministerio.
Estos cinco estándares de certificación son las capacidades esenciales para ministros laicos en el
ministerio eclecial.
Primer Estándar de Certificación: Madurez Personal y Espritual. Este estándar incluye cosas
como estilo del vida equilibrado, autoimagen positiva y relaciones apropiadas. Esto incluye el
discernimiento, la oración regular, el estudio continuo y la espritualidad integrada.
Segundo Estándar de Certificación: La Identidad del Ministerio Ecclesial. Este estándar
incluye tanto el reconocimiento por la persona de su propio llamado al ministerio público como
la identificación de su llamado con Dios. Esto incluye la integración de objetivos ministeriales
con los valores del Evangelio, manteniendo un sistema de apoyo, la capacidad de modelar el
ministerio eclesial en el ministerio de Jesús e identificación con la Iglesia universal.
Tercer Estándar de Certificación: Teología Católica. Este estándar se compone del
conocimiento de la fe Católica. Esto incluye el conocimiento y la integración personal de la
Escritura, tradición, Cristología, la teología de la Iglesia, teología sacramental, ministerio pastoral,
teología moral, espritualidad y ecumenismo.
Cuarto Estándar de Certificación: Praxis Pastoral. Este estándar se compone de aquellas
maneras como se vive el ministerio. Esto incluye cuidado pastoral, catequesis, sensibilidades
multiculturales, aplicando una perspectiva de familia y capacitando a otros en su propia fe.
Quinto Estándar de Certificación: Prácticas Profesionales. Este estándar se compone de los detalles
específicos y habilidades necesarias en el ministerio. Esto incluye habilidades de liderazgo,
organización, administración, colaboración y un espírtu de disciplina.
Casi todos los talleres y las sesiones principales en la Conferencia de Otoño son reconocidos como
correspondiente a uno de los estándares de certificación. Usted puede usar esta información para
reflexionar sobre si su participación en la Conferencia de Otoño es completa en cuanto a los estándares.
Usted puede referirse a los estándares identificados en la preparación de una carpeta de certificación.
