The goal of this conference is to provide information
to assist clinicians in addressing complex diagnostic
and treatment issues in order to effectively and
efficiently handle TB along the US-Mexico border.
Clinicians will have an increased knowledge and
skills that will result in higher levels of treatment
completion by the patient; reduce the development of
drug resistance through appropriate treatment;
address legal and immigration issues; and manage
the patient with co-morbid conditions.
Conference Objectives
Using highly interactive lectures, case studies and
other types of learning exercises, participants will be
able to: describe the epidemiology of TB from a US
and Mexico perspective; verbalize the transmission,
pathogenesis and treatment of latent tuberculosis and
TB disease in adults and children; discuss laboratory
diagnosis of TB; discuss the diagnosis and
management of TB patients with co-morbid
conditions such as HIV infection and diabetes;
describe the diagnosis and management of drugresistant TB; list the components of a binational TB
contact investigation; identify the components for
follow-up for contacts to a TB case; discuss the role
of Immigration and Customs Enforcement in TB
prevention and control along the border; and explain
the processes for transferring TB patients back to
their home country.

Audiencia
Este curso esta dirigido a los médicos que participan
activamente en el diagnóstico y tratamiento de pacientes
con tuberculosis y a casos sospechosos a lo largo de la
frontera México-Estados Unidos.
Formato
La conferencia incluirá ponencias, casos clínicos y
paneles de discusión. Habrá suficiente tiempo para
preguntas y respuestas.
Objetivo General
El objetivo de esta conferencia es proporcionar
información para ayudar al medico a hacer frente a los
complejos problemas de diagnostico y tratamiento con el
fin de manejar efectivamente la tuberculosis a lo largo de
la frontera México-Estados Unidos. Los médicos lograrán
un mayor conocimiento y habilidad que dará como
resultado mayores niveles de apego al tratamiento por
parte del paciente, reducirá el desarrollo de resistencia a
los medicamentos a través de un tratamiento adecuado, o
de cuestiones legales y de inmigración, y el manejo del
paciente con condiciones comorbilidades.
Objetivos de la Conferencia
Mediante conferencias altamente interactivos, estudios de
casos y otros tipos de ejercicios de aprendizaje, los
participantes serán capaces de: Describir la epidemiología
de la tuberculosis a partir de una perspectiva de EE.UU. y
México, verbalizar la transmisión, la patogénesis y
tratamiento de la tuberculosis latente y la enfermedad de
la tuberculosis en adultos y niños; discutir el diagnóstico
de la TB en el laboratorio; discutir el diagnóstico y
tratamiento de pacientes con tuberculosis y otras
comórbilidades, tales como la infección por VIH y la
diabetes, describir el diagnóstico y tratamiento de la
tuberculosis
farmacoresistente,
enumerar
los
componentes de una investigación binacional de contactos
de TB, identificar los componentes para el seguimiento de
los contactos de un caso de tuberculosis; discutir el papel
de la Agencia de Inmigración y Aduanas en la prevención
y el control de la tuberculosis a lo largo de la frontera, y
explicar los procesos de transferencia de pacientes con
tuberculosis de regreso a su país de origen.
