Los pronombres demostrativos (Demonstrative pronouns) Demonstrative pronouns are used to replace nouns when the context makes the meaning clear. Just like the other kinds of Spanish pronouns, these mark both gender and number, but, as you can tell from the name, demonstrative pronouns also indicate (or demonstrate) the relative location or distance of an object from the speaker. They can be loosely compared to the English words this, that, these, those, though Spanish demonstrative pronouns are much more specific than their English counterparts are, so you should learn how to use them by recognizing the context rather than by translating. Los pronombres demostrativos del español As stated above, the Spanish demonstrative pronouns mark specifically distance of an object from the speaker (Near, Far, Very Far).
