Concordancia gramatical

Al hablar de concordancia gramatical,
se está refiriendo a la correlación entre
el género, número y persona en el uso
de sustantivos con artículos, adjetivos y
verbos. En este sentido, se pueden
distinguir dos tipos de concordancia:
nominal y verbal.

When talking about concordancia
gramatical, we refer to the co-relation
between gender, number, and person
in the usage of nouns in combination
with articles, adjectives, and verbs. In
this way, we can distinguish two types
of concordancia: nominal and verbal.

El (article) perro (noun) grande
(adjetive)
Examples:
1. Nominal:
(Singular Masculine and feminine)

El (articulo) perro (sustantivo) grande
(adjetivo)
En este caso es importante ver como el
artículo y el adjetivo son puestos acorde
con su sustantivo. Perro es un
sustantivo singular, en tercera persona
y además es masculino. Su artículo y
adjetivo deberán seguir esa forma
gramatical

La (articulo) manzana (sustantivo) roja
(adjetivo)
El artículo, adjetivo y sustantivo
presentan la misma forma gramatical
en género, persona y número.
In this case, it is important to notice
how the article and the adjective are
placed according to their noun. Perro
(dog) is a singular, in third person, and a
masculine noun. Its article and adjective
must follow this grammatical form.

La (article) manzana (noun) roja
(adjective)
The article, adjective, and noun present
the same grammatical form in gender,
person, and number.
(Plural Masculine, feminine, and both)
Note: For masculine and when using both genders at the same time, the adjective and the
article will follow the same form.
Plural masculine

Los (articulo) carros (sustantivo)
deportivos (adjetivo)

En este caso el artículo y el adjetivo
toman la forma plural y masculina del
sustantivo.
Los (article) carros (noun) deportivos
(adjective)
In this case, the article and the adjective
are in the same plural and masculine
form as the noun.
Plural feminine

Las (articulo) vacas (sustantivo) gordas
(adjetivo)
Ambos, el artículo y el adjetivo, siguen
la forma del sustantivo plural y
femenino.

Las (article) vacas (noun) gordas
(adjective)
Both the article and adjective follow a
plural and feminine form.
Plural when using both masculine and feminine

Cuando se habla sobre el niño pequeño y la niña pequeña y se quiere hablar sobre los dos al
mismo tiempo se utiliza:
Los niños pequeños

When talking about el niño pequeño (singular masculine) y la niña pequeña (singular feminine),
and you want to talk about both at the same time, you must use:
Los niños pequeños
2. Verbal Concordance
Sin importar el género, es importante que
el verbo siempre esté en la misma forma
del sustantivo en número y persona. El
adverbio siempre está en la misma forma.
Regardless of the gender, it is important
that the verb must be in the same form of
the noun’s number and person. The adverb
is always in the same form.
