ABSTRACT Temperament in cattle is defined as behavior in response to stress, with a moderate heritability. The DBH (Dopamine beta hydroxylase) bovine gene is located on chromosome 11 with 12 exons and 11 introns. They have identified single nucleotide polymorphism in exon 12, possibly associated with mood changes in cattle. The aim of this study was to find polymorphisms in this region and associate them with temperament traits in breeds White Orejinegro (BON - Bos taurus), bulls (Bos taurus) and Brahman (Bos indicus). 80 individuals were used to assess behavior in brete (CB) and output speed (VS), and 49 a fragment of 702 bp in exon 12 of the gene identified 22 haplotypes sequenced. The largest number of haplotypes (17) and lower (4), the lowest nucleotide diversity (0.0012 ± 0.0011) greater number of homozygous genotypes in cattle Lidia. differences (p <0.05) in VS presented, this being lower in males than in Brahman BON (1.45 ± 0.61 and 2.02 ± 0.74 respectively) and Brahman females than in females of Lydia ( 1.05 ± 0.58 and 2.23 ± 0.80 respectively). Although no association with genetic polymorphisms found was presented, a possible influence of selection forces in exon 12, which could influence different behavioural characteristics is suggested. Key words: Nucleotide, brete behavior , haplotype, output speed.
