• La ciudad de Tenochtitlán se situó sobre un lago y está
estimado que tenía cerca de 13 km2 (cuadrados) en grandeza.
o The city of Tenochtitlan was placed over top of a lake and is
estimated to have been nearly 13 km2 (squared) in size.
• El transporte consistió en caminos y canales.
o Transportation consisted of roads and canals.
• Estaba dividido en 4 zonas. It was divided into 4 zones.
(Cuepopon, Atzacualpa, Moyotian, Teopan)
• Había grandes mercados dónde vendían casi todo lo que la
gente necesitaba para vivir y palacios con varios jardines y
zoológicos.
o There were large markets where they sold nearly everything that the people
needed to live and palaces with various gardens and zoos.

• Quetzalcoatl era un sacerdote
desterrado quien hizo una amenaza de
volver a la costa oriental de México.
o Quetzalcoatl was a banished priest who made a
threat to return to the east coast of Mexico.
• Unos años después, los Españoles llegaron
a México por la misma costa.
o Some years later the Spaniards arrived
in Mexico on the same cost.
• Unos aztecas sospecharon que
Quetzalcoatl había regresado para obtener
su venganza.
o Some Aztecs supposed that Quetzalcoatl had
returned for his vengeance.

Hernán Cortés, el líder de los conquistadores, fue invitado a entrar la ciudad como
si fuera Quetzalcoatl.

Cortez, the leader of the Conquistadors, was invited to enter the city as if he were Quetzalcoatl.

Pero Cortés no respondió como los aztecas esperaban.

• Él les mostró el poder de sus armas y
los mandaron de regreso a Tenochtitlán
para predicar a la gente sobre lo que
habían visto.

ordered them to return to Tenochtitlan to tell the people
about what they had seen
Cortés tomó control de la ciudad y encarceló al emperador Moctezuma.
Cortez took control of they city and jailed the emperor Montezuma.
La noche triste
• Cuando Cortés dejó Pedro de Alvarado en
cargado de Tenochtitlan en su breve ausencia, el
impulsivo oficial ordenó una masacre de las
indígenas en el centro de la capital.
o When Cortez left Pedro de Alvarado in charge of
Tenochtitlan during his brief absence, the impulsive official
ordered an massacre of the indigenes people in the center
of the capital.
• Al regresar de Cortés los aztecas iniciaron un
feroz ataque.
o As soon as Cortez returned, the Aztecs began a ferocious attack.
La noche triste
• Los aztecas quitaron cada escape más que
nadar de la capital y la situación de los
españoles atrapados en su cuartel general se
convirtió muy desperada.
o The Aztecs destroyed all means of escape other than
swimming away from the capital and the situation turned
dire for the Spaniards trapped in the general quarter.
• Sólo unos treinta conquistadores sobrevivieron.
o Only about thirty Conquistadors survived.
Cortés se alió con muchas de las tribus insatisfechas
que fueron dominadas por los aztecas.
Cortez allied with several of the unsatisfied tribes
that were dominated by the Aztecs.
Con la ayuda de estas tribus, Cortés masacró a la gente azteca.

Hoy en día
Pero los aztecas nunca serán olvidados porque sus símbolos han
tenido mucho influencia en el arte aun en la bandera mexicana.
