Carta de la Presidenta
Estimados señores,
Sin lugar a dudas la crisis internacional que golpeó a diversas
economías a nivel mundial, ha afectado a la actividad minera,
principalmente por la caída de los precios de los minerales.
El escenario internacional nos impone un nuevo desafío para quienes trabajamos en el sector minero, porque tenemos
que enfrentar las amenazas y convertirlas en oportunidades de desarrollo para nuestras actividades productivas. Los
mineros, a través del tiempo, hemos aprendido a conocer y a enfrentar estas dificultades.
Pese a la fragilidad de la economía mundial, el Perú ha logrado ubicarse como uno de los países con mejor crecimiento
económico en América Latina en el 2013, pues logró que el Producto Bruto Interno (PBI) creciera en más de 5%.
La estabilidad jurídica y económica de la que hoy goza nuestra nación, le ha permitido convertirse en un importante
destino de inversión, lo que ha sido clave para lograr mantenerse como una economía emergente. Sin duda, el Perú
y su minería han sufrido cambios positivos muy importantes en los últimos años y así lo reconoce la comunidad
internacional. Estamos verdaderamente interesados en conservar el dinámico crecimiento que se ha iniciado, y nos
sentimos ciertamente en la obligación de seguir trabajando para que nuestro país se afiance como una nación con
seguridad jurídica, desarrollo económico y competitiva.
En ese sentido, me es grato hacerle llegar la más cordial invitación a participar en el 11º Simposium Internacional del
Oro y de la Plata organizado por la Sociedad Nacional de Minería, Petróleo y Energía, que se llevará a cabo del 20 al 22
de mayo de 2014 en The Westin Hotel & Convention Center, Lima – Perú.
El objetivo principal de este importante evento bienal es promover el conocimiento del potencial de los recursos
naturales, particularmente el aurífero y argentífero, así como fomentar nuevas inversiones y oportunidades de negocios.
El simposio también presentará una variedad de temas, como: las tendencias y perspectivas del mercado del oro y la
plata; su influencia en la marcha de la economía mundial; el importante rol que tiene la actividad minera para el
desarrollo del Perú y de diversos países que cuentan con estos recursos naturales; de las operaciones y nuevos proyectos
de oro y plata, entre otros.
Esperamos contar con la presencia de todos ustedes, empresarios, inversionistas, ejecutivos, autoridades de gobierno,
profesionales y proveedores del sector minero, así como miembros de otros sectores relacionados con los metales
preciosos como la ciencia, tecnología, la industria y la joyería.
Estamos seguros que las conferencias, a cargo de destacados profesionales y expertos nacionales y extranjeros que tocarán
temas de trascendental relevancia para la minería de oro y la plata; así como la Exhibición Minera que se desarrollará

Letter of the Chairwoman
Dear Sirs
No doubt, the international crisis that hit several economies worldwide has affected the mining industry, mainly causing
a drop in mineral prices.
The international scenario imposes new challenges for those of us working for the mining sector, forcing us to face hazards
and transform them into development opportunities for our productive activities. Miners – throughout time - have
learned to identify and face these difficulties.
Despite the fragility of global economy, Peru has positioned itself as one of the countries with best economic growth in
Latin America along 2013 – achieving more than 5% in its GDP growth.
Current legal and economic stability in our country has turned Peru into a major foreign investment destination, key
factor to remain as an emerging economy. Undoubtedly, Peru and its mining industry have gone through important
and positive changes in the last years, fact acknowledged by the international community. We are definitely eager in
maintaining the growth momentum and feel committed to continue supporting our nation’s legal stability, sound
economic growth and competitiveness.
Thus, I am pleased to cordially invite you to participate at the 11th Gold and Silver International Symposium, organized
by the National Society of Mining, Oil, and Energy, which will be held on May 20 – 22, 2014 at The Westin Hotel &
Convention Center, Lima - Peru.
The main objective of this biennial mining relevant event is to promote awareness of the potential of natural resources,
particularly gold and silver resources, as well as to foster new investment and business opportunities. The Symposium will
address a variety of topics such as: trends and perspectives for the gold and silver markets; their impact in world economy;
the key role mining activities play in Peru’s development as well as in the development of many countries that count on
these natural resources; gold and silver operations and new projects, among other of interest.
We hope to count on the attendance of you all, entrepreneurs, investors, executives, government authorities, professionals
and suppliers related to the mining sector, as well as the attendance of representatives of other sectors related to precious
metals such as science, technology, manufacturing and jewelry industries.
We are confident that the lectures - in charge of outstanding professionals and local and foreign experts – which will
address issues of vital relevance for gold and silver mining as well as the Mining Exhibition, to be held in parallel to the
Symposium, in addition to the attractive social activities programmed, will arouse your total interest. We thank you in

The 11th International Gold & Silver Symposium will
take place in Lima on May 20 to 22, 2014. This event
is organized by the Gold Committee of the National
Society of Mining, Oil and Energy of Peru and its main
objective is to disseminate information about Peru’s and
other Latin American countries’ abundance in gold and
silver resources, as well as to promote new investment and
business opportunities in the region.

región, la perspectiva de los mercados y precios, y una
visión general de su influencia en la economía mundial.
Also the event will be a superb occasion to gather
information about new projects in the region, markets
outlook and an overall vision of their influence on the
world’s economy.
Productor líder de oro y plata
Leading position as gold and silver producer
Perú es el primer productor de oro de Latinoamérica y
sexto productor del mundo. En el 2013, la producción
peruana estaría bordeando las 154 toneladas. En lo
que a plata se refiere Perú es el tercer mayor productor
del mundo y el segundo de Latinoamérica con 3500
toneladas aproximadamente.
Peru is the first gold producer of Latin America and the
sixth producer of the world. In 2013, Peru’s production
could be 154 tonnes. In silver the country ranks third
among the world’s largest producers and the second of
Latin America with and approximate production of
3,500 tonnes.
Durante el 2012, las exportaciones de oro representaron
el 21% de las exportaciones totales de Perú y el 37% de
las exportaciones mineras.
In 2012, gold exports accounted for 21% of Peru’s total
exports and 37% of its mining exports.
