Explore the “Realities, Myths and Strategies” to assist students with Attention Deficit
Hyperactivity Disorder with study skills, behavior, and organization at home and in the
classroom.
Intended audience: Families of students with ADHD. (Limited to 25 participants)
Transition Guide for Families: (6 points)
Transition planning focuses on the dreams families of students with disabilities have
for the future. Families and students will take a walk through Transition Planning for
Students with Disabilities: A Guide For Families. Learn about the purpose of transition
planning and how positive outcomes effects student’s futures. One guide, Transition
Planning for Students with Disabilities: A Guide For Families will be given to each
family to take home for further reference.
Intended audience: Families and students who are 14 and older and have an IEP.
(Limited to 30 participants) (professionals must be actively teaching in a classroom
or in a related service area)
Scholarship and Financial Aid For Students with Disabilities (3 points)
Families of students with disabilities in the 8th to 12th grade are invited to attend. Kay
Noble, District Guidance Specialist for Polk County Schools, will present topics on
scholarships and scholarship searches, financial aid and the financial aid application
process. Intended audience: Families and students in the 8th to 12th grade
graduating with a standard diploma. (Limited to 40 participants)
Ready to Read Strategies for Home or Classroom: (10 inservice points)
Would you like to learn simple strategies for creating a strong reader? You don’t want
to miss this learning opportunity to understand the skills necessary for reading and
explore ways to help your child be ready to read and learn. Intended Audience:
Families of students in first to fifth grade. . (Free materials. Limited to 25
participants/professionals must be actively teaching in a classroom or in a related
service area)
Sensory Strategies at Home and School: (6 inservice points)
We are all sensory people! We experience, interpret, and respond to the input
around us in different ways. We function at our best when we are in that “just right”
zone, but sometimes we are over-stimulated and other times we are understimulated. Our children are the same way! Their behavior tells us whether they are
over-stimulated or under-stimulated. At today’s workshop, we are going to explore
the sensory system and various sensory strategies that can be applied at home and
school to help our children find that “just right” state for learning!
Intended audience: Parents of children ages 3-22 (professionals must be actively
teaching in a classroom or in a related service area) (Limited to 20 participants.)
Visual Strategies: Boardmaker and Make-In-Take: (6 points)
Families will learn how to use Boardmaker software to create visual supports or
communication boards to help their children understand, express themselves,
improve overall behavior, and participate in school and home routine. They will also
receive a website with many already created boards that they can access and print at
home will be able to make the products shown directly after the Boardmaker session.
Intended Audience: Families of students with disabilities who are struggling with
communication that may influence behaviors. (professionals must be actively
teaching in a classroom or in a related service area) (Limited to 20 participants.)
***These workshops will be held at 270 Bartow Municipal Airport, off US Hwy. 17,
Bartow, FL 33830)

Estrategias Sensoriales en el Hogar y la Escuela (6 puntos)
¡Todos somos personas sensoriales! Experimentamos, interpretamos y respondemos a
las cosas alrededor nuestro en diferentes formas. Funcionamos de la mejor manera,
cuando estamos en esa zona “apropiada”, pero a veces estamos sobre-estimulados y
otras veces hay falta de estímulo. ¡Nuestros hijos son de la misma manera!
Su comportamiento nos dice si están sobre-estimulados o bajo estimulados. ¡En el
taller de hoy, vamos a explorar el sistema sensorial y diversas estrategias sensoriales
que se pueden aplicar en el hogar y en la escuela para ayudar a nuestros niños a
descubrir el estado “apropiado” para el aprendizaje! Dirigido a: Padres de hijos de 322 años de edad (los profesionales deben estar trabajando activamente en el aula o
en un área de servicio relacionado) (Limitado a 20 participantes.)
Estrategias Visuales: Boardmaker y Hacer y Llevar: (6 puntos)
Las familias aprenderán cómo usar el software Boardmaker para crear apoyos visuales
o carteles de comunicación para ayudar a sus hijos a comprender, expresarse, mejorar
su comportamiento total, y participar en las rutinas de la escuela y del hogar. También
recibirán un sitio web con muchos carteles ya creados que pueden acceder e imprimir
en el hogar. Podrán hacer los productos mostrados directamente luego de terminada
la sesión de Boardmaker.
Dirigido a: Familias de estudiantes con discapacidades que están teniendo
