Dear Family,
In this topic, your child will be constructing angles, constructing lines,
and constructing shapes using a compass and straightedge. Here is
an activity that you can do with your child at home to have him or her
practice constructing congruent angles (two angles of the same size).
How to Construct an Angle the Same Size as a Given Angle
Materials: paper, compass, straightedge
Step 1: Draw a horizontal line segment beside the given angle.
Step 2: Place a compass point on the vertex of the given angle
and draw an arc that intersects both sides of the angle.
Step 3: Without changing the compass measure, place the
compass point on the endpoint of the line segment at the right.
Draw an arc that intersects the line segment.

Step 4: Use the compass to measure the distance between the
points where the arc crosses the two sides of the given angle.
Keeping the same compass measure, put the compass point on
the line segment at right at the intersection of the arc you drew
there. Draw another arc intersecting that arc. Draw the second
side of the new angle through the intersection of the arcs to form
the new angle.

Paso 1: Dibuje un segmento de recta horizontal junto al ángulo
dado.
Paso 2: Coloque la punta del compás en el vértice del ángulo
dado y dibuje un arco que interseque ambos lados del ángulo.
Paso 3: Sin cambiar la medida del compás, coloque la punta en
el punto extremo del segmento de recta, a la derecha. Trace un
arco que interseque el segmento de recta.
Paso 4: Use el compás para medir la distancia que hay entre los
puntos donde el arco cruza los dos lados del ángulo dado. Con la
misma medida del compás, coloque la punta en el segmento de
recta, a la derecha, en la intersección del arco que trazó. Dibuje
otro arco intersecando ese arco. Dibuje la segunda línea del
