Students will earn two quarter grades, each worth 45% of their final grade. The other 10% will be determined by the state mandated SLO (Student Learning Objectives Assessment). Grades will be earned on the following basis: QUARTER GRADES -‐ Q1 & Q2 (FALL SEMESTER) Q3 & Q4 (SPRING SEMESTER) Test and Assessments – 60% 30%  Unit Exams, Projects, Oral Exams, Organized notebook and Major Writing Assignments 15%  Midterm and Final Exam: both are cumulative. 15%  Spanish Portfolio: you will have 3-‐4 months to complete it. Rubric is posted on the class website. Classwork and Homework – 40% 10%  Class participation will be graded according to how you participate in this class and in class discussions. I will also take in consideration how well you follow directions and complete tasks. Staying awake and doing your work counts as class participation. Rubric is posted on the class website. 30%  Homework (may vary in length, includes your journal entries, Classwork (will consist of worksheets, online research, practice online, group participation, Rosetta Stone, etc) and Quizzes (small quizzes will be given to monitor your progress and study habits) There will be two quarters per semester; each quarter will be averaged together along with the SLO for the final grade. The final grade determines pass/fail of a course. Semester Grade Spring Q1 – 45% Q2 – 45% SLO – 10% Fall Q3 – 45% Q4 – 45% SLO – 10% 90-‐100 A 80-‐89 B 70-‐79 C 69 and below F The maximum final grade recorded for students with more than 10 unexcused absences is 69% CHEATING & PLAGIARISM Students copying assignments or cheating on tests will receive a zero (0) for the assignment and will not be allow making it up. Parents and/or administration may be informed. Plagiarism (stealing the ideas or words of another and passing them off as one’s own) will not be tolerated. In addition, submitting work solely from an online or electronic translator will result in a failing grade for the assignment. This is not negotiable. Integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles. HOMEWORK, PROJECTS, PORTFOLIO AND OTHER ASSIGNMENTS HOMEWORK must be completed by the beginning of class on Fridays. You will have 3-‐5 days to complete all assignments. Homework is given to reinforce the material cover in class. Homework may include individual practice with websites, if you do not have a computer at home or don’t have access to the internet please make arrangements prior to the due date. PROJECTS must be completed by the due date specified in the rubric. Make sure to carefully read all rubrics for specifics. All rubrics and samples will be posted on Google Classroom and Schoology. SPANISH PORTFOLIO -‐ you will have the entire semester to complete an electronic portfolio with your best work from class. This will be a compilation of projects, written assignments, essays and presentations. You are responsible to keep an electronic copy of your assignments. Your portfolio will also include a speaking component you must be prepared to complete by the end of the course. The rubric, due date and specifics will be given to you the first week of class and will also be posted on Google Classroom and Schoology. Woodville Tompkins Technical & Career High School – Gomez Page 2 Spanish II Fall Semester Syllabus OTHER ASSIGNMENTS are to be completed as assigned. LATE WORK Students are expected to and must be responsible for submitting course work in a timely manner. As in the “real-‐world,” deadlines are given and must be adhered to. Late work only puts a student at a learning disadvantage of trying to complete both late work and current learning assignments. Course work missed due to excused absences is not considered as late work and is not included in this policy. 9TH G RADERS will be given the opportunity to adjust to the Woodville Tompkins academic culture and will have up to five school days to turn in late work with a late penalty subtracted of 20 points per day. 10TH T O 1 2TH G RADERS -‐ NO late work accepted after due date! Course work is defined as homework, in-‐class assignments, projects, research papers, etc. It is important to remember that large amounts of late course work WILL NOT be accepted at the conclusion of a course marking period or semester. ABSENCES AND TARDINESS Follow school board policy. In order to understand and do well in this class you must be present every day. Excessive absences and tardiness may result in an “incomplete” or failing grade for the course. Students must be on time for school and all classes. Students that are tardy to school or class three (3) times will be assigned an administrative detention. Chronic tardiness will result in more serious consequences being assessed such as Saturday school or an out of school suspension (OSS). MAKE UP WORK Once you return from an excused absence, you will have 5 school days to make up missed classwork, homework, tests and projects. If you do not submit the classwork, homework, tests and projects within the 5 school days period, you will receive a zero for that assignment. It is your responsibility to obtain the assignments in a timely manner. I will not remind you that you have work to make up. RE-‐TEST POLICY All students will be given an opportunity to make up a test (exam) if a passing score is not obtained on the initial administration of the assessment. Guidelines and Requirements:  The student must retest within a five (5) school day period after the test is returned to the student.  The highest possible grade earned on a retest will be seventy (70) percent.  Retesting request must be initiated by the student and will be scheduled after school, before school, or during lunch.  Any student caught cheating on a test will not be eligible to retest and will receive disciplinary action.  The student is strongly urged to study or attend tutorial before retesting.  Mid-‐term Exams and Final Exams do not fall under the re-‐test policy. CLASS PARTICIPATION Class participation is 10% of your grade. It is important that you get engaged in your education, ask questions when needed. During class discussions, voice your opinion and respect other’s opinions. Be courteous and use appropriate language. Actively participate in class activities. Do your best at all times. Speak as much Spanish as possible during class even when you think you are saying it wrong. Just try! Practice makes perfect! Be helpful to other students. You will receive a grading rubric for your class participation grade and it will also be posted on Google Classroom and Schoology.
