CONVOCATION KEYNOTES AND STUDY SESSIONS Study Sessions: Choose 1 YOUNG ADULT MINISTRY: A COLLOBORATIVE EFFORT Everyone can be a Young Adult Minister! Join with others for an eye opening workshop to learn about trends in young adult ministry, some best practices, & ways to collaborate with your community to connect with young adults in the pews. Presenter: Sarah Jarzembowski Sponsored by: The Catholic Apostolate Center Sarah Jarzembowski is Curriculum Coordinator for the Catholic Apostolate Center. “WE ARE ALL IN THE SAME BOAT AND HEADED TO THE SAME PORT!” - Pope Francis In his apostolic exhortation The Joy of the Gospel, Pope Francis calls the Church to embrace “a missionary impulse capable of transforming everything” so that the Church’s customs, language & structures are aimed at “evangelization of today’s world rather than self-preservation.” We will reflect together on his exhortation as a call to action, involving genuine encounter with others, effective engagement with the world, & a deep passion for evangelizing our culture with Gospel values. During this Holy Year, we will also reflect on mercy as the very heart of the Gospel. To live the joy of the Gospel, “the Church must be a place of mercy freely given, where everyone can feel welcomed, loved, forgiven & encouraged to live the good life of the Gospel.” Presenter: Ed Lis Sponsored by: Pflaum Publishing THE RCIA: MOVING TO A YEAR-ROUND PROCESS 1 God’s grace reaches people throughout the various times & seasons of their lives. RCIA models that are aligned to the school year often are not aligned to the actual movement of God’s grace working in peoples’ lives. This workshop will focus on ways to broaden your RCIA process to move it gradually into one that welcomes people whenever God’s grace touches their hearts: any day of the year! Presenter: Dr. Jerry Galipeau Sponsored by: World Library Publications Dr. Galipeau is Vice-President & Chief Publishing Officer at World Library Publications, music & liturgy division of J.S. FORMING GLOBAL DISCIPLES Explore ways you and your community can build more just societies and live in solidarity with our vulnerable brothers & sisters right here at home! Looking at formation resources & program ideas from Catholic Relief Services, we will discuss how we can be a “poor church for the poor”. After hearing some best practices from dioceses, parishes & schools around the region, there will be time for you to brainstorm what may work best for your individual communities! ALL ARE WELCOME IN THIS PLACE: INCLUSION FOR FAMILIES WITH SPECIAL NEEDS This workshop will discuss challenges that special needs families often face, obstacles that keep them away from attending church, & preparing their special needs children to receive the sacraments. Although this has facilitated in bringing the human family of God together in building the reign of God on earth, it has, also, left many Catholics wondering “So, what makes us unique as Catholics?” “How do we identify ourselves as Catholics?” This presentation will discuss some of the fundamental ways in which our Catholic Identity is best expressed and how we might strengthen our capacity as a Church to be true to the demands of the Gospel. AFTERNOON KEYNOTES: CHOOSE 1 THE FAMILY: THE FOUNDATION OF FAITH Each time parents share a story or create a family tradition, they cultivate the fertile soil of faith formation. As domestic church, the family carries out the six tasks of catechesis in informal and yet potent ways. By naming and recognizing these tasks, catechists affirm what families already do and offer ways to support and encourage growth of faith both within the home and beyond it. Presenter: Presenter: Kathy Hendricks Sponsored by Sadlier THE CATECHUMENATE AS THE INSPIRATION FOR ALL CATECHESIS: WHY AND HOW? Both the General Directory and the National Directory for Catechesis reflect the Church’s directive and vision that the Catechumenate (the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) inspires all of the Church’s catechetical activity. This is a powerful and potentially revolutionary vision when put into practice. Discover the theory behind the principle and what it means to put the vision into practical parish application for the RCIA and for all catechesis Presenter: Dr. Jerry Galipeau Sponsored by World Library Publications LA CATEQUESIS EN EL MARCO DE LA EVANGELIZACIÓN 8 A la luz de los 20 años del Directorio General para la Catequesis y los 10 años del Documento de Aparecida, esta charla permitirá a los participantes enmarcar la catequesis dentro del marco de la evangelización y cómo ésta permite ofrecer a la catequesis nuevas respuestas ante los desafíos más urgentes de la transmisión de la fe en medio de los hispanos y latinos en los Estados Unidos. Presentador: Fr. Alejandro Lopez-Cardinale Sponsored by Renew International
