Last year St. Vincent de Paul Parish hosted the „Ozark Liturgical Conference‰,
featuring national musical composers and presentations on the Catholic Liturgy.
Over 500 people from all over Arkansas participated, including friends from
Oklahoma and Missouri.
On Saturday August 1, we again will host a regional conference, based this time
on our Catholic Faith. In response to Pope FrancisÊ call to bring the Gospel to all
people, presentations will include „Evangelizing to Friends and Family‰, „Catholic
Culture‰, „Catholic Womanhood‰ and „Catholic Manhood‰. We will also be able to
learn more about the sacred Triduum (the days of Holy Week) and how pastoral
musicians serve the parish. All presentations will run concurrently in both English
and Spanish. The day will end with bi-lingual Mass at 5:00 pm and, like last year,
will feature the music of national composers.
This conference is for everyone – all parishioners of the deanery, Catholics from
neighboring states, your friends from work. Invite everyone you know, even those
who are not Catholic. We want to share with the world our beautiful Faith and
deepen our own appreciation for what we have been given.
Mark your calendars: Saturday August 1, 2015, here at St. Vincent de Paul. There is more information in this

El año pasado la parroquia San Vicente de Paul fue anfitrion de la „Conferencia Liturgica Ozark‰, presentando
compositors musicales nacionales y presentaciones de Liturgia Catolica. Contamos con la presencia de mas de 500
personas de Arkansas, y provenientes de Oklahoma y Missouri.
El sabado 1 de Agosto, de nuevo seremos anfitriones una conferencia regional, basada esta occasion en nuestra fe
Catolica. En respuesta del llamado que nos ha hecho nuestro Papa Francisco en llevar el Evangelio a todos los
pueblos, las presentaciones incluiran temas como „Evangelizando a Amigos y Familia‰, „Cultura
Catolica‰, „Feminidad Catolica‰, „Masculinidad Catolica‰. Tambien tendremos la oportunidad de aprender acerca
del sagrado Triduum (dias de Semana Santa) y de que manera musicos pastorals sirven a la parroquia. Todas las
presentaciones se llevaran a cabo en Ingles y Español. Ese dia concluira con una Misa bilingue a las 5:00 pm, y de la
misma manera que se hizo el año pasado, presentaremos musica de compositores nacionales.
Esta conferencia es para todas las personas – feligreses del decanato, Catolicos de los estados vecinos, y sus
amistades del trabajo. Extiendan la invitacion a cada personas que conozcan, incluso a quienes no son Catolicos.
Queremos compartir con el mundo nuestra Fe maravillosa y profundizar nuestro aprecio por todo lo que hemos
recibido.

needs more men and women of God to stand up,

imitating the heroic love of Christ.
Yet, in todayÊs busy, high-tech world, there are few
opportunities where we can take time to reflect on how
to better imitate this heroic love; time to put away the
cell phone and iPad and be inspired to go further in our
imitation of Christ for the sake of not only ourselves,
but our loved ones. This Conference provides you that
opportunity!
This conference is YOU, regardless of your state in
life or where you are on your faith journey. The
Conference, will start off with a prayer service, and
includes music, popular Catholic vendors, lunch, Mass
and time for reflection.

Msgr. Scott Friend, VG Ordained on June 20, 1987 Msgr. Friend is currently the Vicar General and Director of
VocationsandSeminariansOf icefortheDioceseofLittleRock.Msgr.FriendhasaMaster’sDegreeinSpirituality
andaCerti icateinSpiritualDirectionfromCreightonUniversity.In2002Msgr.Friendwasdiagnosedwithmultiple
sclerosis.Heseeshisillnessasablessing,onethatnotonlyhelpshimunderstandthesufferingofthesick,butwhich
has helped him change the way he sees himself and his calling. He trusts completely in the Lord, who keeps him going as he
struggleswithfatigueandpain.
Pedro Rubalcava is a nationally known clinician and performer with expertise in various musical styles. He has
been directing liturgical music groups for more than 30 years. Pedro received national recognition in 1990 when
Amanecer, was nominated for a Grammy award in the Best Mexican/American Performance category. Currently,
PedroistheDirectorofHispanicministriesforOCP.HealsoservesontheexecutiveboardoftheInstitutoNacional
HispanodeLiturgiaastheNorthwestrepresentative.HelivesinDamascus,Oregon,withhiswife,Kristin,andtheirtwochildren.
Fr. Erik Pohlmeier Fr.ErikPohlmeieristhePastorofOurLadyoftheHolySouls,inLittleRock,Arkansasandisthe
Assistant Vocation and Seminarian Director for the Diocese of Little Rock and is a theological consultant. Fr.
PohlmeierwasordainedJuly25,1998andisfromParisArkansas.Hisfaithwasdeeplyengrainedinhisfamilylife
andisnowbeingsharedwiththenextgeneration.
Msgr. David LeSieur iscurrentlyservingasthePastorofSt.VincentDePaulChurch,amulit‐cultural,4200family
parish in Rogers Arkansas for the past 9 years. He was ordained as a priest in the Diocese of Little Rock in

Anita Marino Anitataughtschoolfor30yearsintheUSandoverseas.Anitastudiedwithherhusbandinthediaconate
program and has been a partner in ministry with him since 1993. Anita received a graduate certi icate in spiritual
directionanddirectedretreatsfromCreightonUniversityin2009andiscurrentlyapracticingspiritualdirectorinthe
DioceseofLittleRockprimarilyatherhomeparishofSt.Raphaelandindiocesansilentdirectedretreats.
Luz Morlet Kreusch Luz Mercedes Morlet Kreusch is Director of Parish Life and the Hispanic Ministries at St.
Joseph Catholic Church in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She serves the St. Joseph Hispanic Community assisting with
sacramental preparation, Virtus training, advocacy with the Diocesan Tribunal, and needs as they present
themselves. She works tirelessly in the social justice realm, organizing health‐related seminars, immigration talks,
andothereventstosupporttheintegrationandwell‐beingofournewestgenerationofimmigrantstothearea.
Maria Guadalupe Vazquez Maria joined her husband’s spiritual journey when he received a call from God to
becomeaDeacon.Dc.MarcelinowasordainedinNovemberof2012byBishopAnthonyTaylor.MarcelinoisDeacon,

Betsy McNeil credits the Blessed Mother with keeping her on the right patch during her circuitous Spiritual

Totus Tuus a Latin phrase meaning „Totally Yours,‰ was Saint Pope John Paul II apostolic
motto. It expresses his personal consecration to Mary based on the spiritual approach of St
Louis de Montfort and the Mariology in his works.
During the week of June 14th – June 19th SVDP church presented Totus Tuus a Summer
Program presented from the Diocese of Tulsa, Ok. The program was held for 1st through
12th grade participants. We enrolled over 100 participants for the morning program for
children 1st through 6th grade and over 40 participants enrolled to the evening program grades
7th through 12th. The teaching of this year was The Virtues and The Sorrowful Mysteries of
the Rosary.
The Five Marks of the Totus Tuus program are: The Gospel, Explanation of the reasons
for our beliefs. Christian witness; the Sacraments⁄ especially Holy Eucharist and Confession and Active witness
of the Missionary Nature of the Catholic Church. Totus Tuus catechists led the participants in a way appropriate
to their age to Jesus for a week; however, Mary will lead them to Jesus for a lifetime.
Totus Tuus teaches us to be faithful Catholics while still having fun by incorporating silly skits, songs, games
and a Fun Friday for 1st – 6th graders. The Totus Tuus team of college students and seminarians evangelized and
catechized our youth in the evening program with some more silly skits, much energy, passion and love for the faith
each evening that week. Both the morning and evening activities included Mass, Reconciliation and Adoration.
I want to thank all those that made this program possible. Thank you to The Totus Tuus team members. Thank
you to Adults and youth volunteers. Thank you to Msgr David and Fr Alejandro. Thank you to Fr Rick for
celebrating mass and to listen confessions the first two days of the program once been already assigned to the
Bentonville parish. Thank you to the Coordinators. Thank you to the families that provided delicious evening
meals for the team – Matt and April Abide, Betsy McNeil,Vic and Kim Miles, Marvin and Mariztela Salinas and
lastly thank you to the home host families Ken and Antonietta Hunter, Paul and Karina Ostenberg and Harry and
Judy
Johnson.
Thank you to all the participants and their families for your support and help to make the Summer program a
place to come to grow in faith and learn more about our Catholic beliefs.

Totus Tuus una frase en Latín que significa "Totalmente Tuyo Señor," fue el lema
apostólico del Santo Papa Juan Pablo II. Expresa su consagración personal a María basado en el
enfoque espiritual de San Luis de Montfort y la Mariología en sus obras.
Durante la semana del 14 al19 de Junio la Iglesia SVDP presentó Totus Tuus un programa de
verano traído de la Diócesis de Tulsa, Ok. El programa se llevó a cabo para estudiantes del 1 À
al 12avo grado. Tuvimos más de 100 participantes en el programa matutino para niños de 1 À a
6 À grado y más de 40 participantes inscritos en el programa vespertino del grado 7mo al 12avo.
El tema de este año fue Las virtudes y los Misterios Dolorosos del Santo Rosario.
Las cinco marcas del programa Totus Tuus son; El Evangelio, explicación de las razones de
nuestras creencias; Testigos Cristianos; los Sacramentos... especialmente la Santa Eucaristía y
la Confesión, y Testigo activo de la naturaleza misionera de la iglesia católica. Los catequistas de Totus Tuus
llevaron a los participantes durante esta semana, de una manera muy propia a su edad, hacia Jesús; sin embargo,
María les llevará a Jesús toda la vida.
Totus Tuus demuestra que uno puede ser un católico fiel y aun así levantar el animo con mañanas divertidas
con parodias, canciones, juegos y un viernes divertido al terminar el programa matutino. Con mucha energía,
entusiasmo y amor por la fe, esto grupo de estudiantes universitarios y seminaristas, vinieron a evangelizar y
catequizar a nuestros jóvenes del programa vespertino con sketches divertidos, canciones, juegos y una sorpresa la
noche del jueves al final del programa.
Quiero agradecer a todos aquellos que hicieron posible este programa. Gracias a los miembros del equipo Totus
Tuus. Gracias a los voluntarios jóvenes y adultos. Gracias a Msgr David y Padre Alejandro. Gracias al Padre Rick
por darnos de su tiempo para decir Misa y a escuchar confesiones los dos primeros días del programa, una vez que
ya había sido asignado a la parroquia de Bentonville. Gracias a los Coordinadores del programa. Gracias a las
familias que proporcionaron deliciosas cenas para el equipo; Matt y April Abide, Betsy Mcnail, Kim y millas, y
Mariztela Salinas y gracias a las familias que recibieron al grupo de Totus Tuus en sus hogares; ... y Antonietta

Since the Supreme Court granted same-sex unions the same status as true marriages and
following my recent letter regarding the teaching of the Catholic Church on this question,
several practical questions have arisen, as follows:
Q. To what extent can Catholics participate in or celebrate same sex "marriages"? And
specifically what about family members who are homosexuals who may now legally wed? In
charity, what can our participation be?
A. Catholic clergy cannot attend marriages that are invalid in the eyes of the Church even
in the case of their own family members because their presence could be misconstrued as
Church approval for the invalidly attempted marriage. Family other than clergy should err
on the side of charity to the degree that their conscience will allow, which will generally
result in them attending in order not to shun their loved ones in this way. In the event that the specific
circumstances make it impossible to attend in good conscience, they should at least try to act compassionately in a
moment such as this, respecting the human dignity of the persons involved. The same applies to opposite-sex
marriages which would be invalid due to the bond of a prior marriage.
Desde que la Corte Suprema le ha otorgado el mismo estatus a las uniones del mismo sexo que a los matrimonios
auténticos, y después de la carta que escribí con respecto a las enseñanzas de la Iglesia Católica referente a este tema, algunas preguntas prácticas han salido a la luz, y son:
P. œEn que medida puede un católico participar o celebrar un „matrimonio‰ homosexual? œQue,
específicamente, debemos de hacer con aquellos familiares nuestros que son homosexuales y ahora pueden casarse
a los ojos de la ley? œEn amor y caridad, hasta que punto podemos participar?
R. Ninguna persona ordenada en la Fe Católica puede participar de la celebración de un matrimonio que es
invalido a los ojos de la Iglesia, aun si es el matrimonio de un miembro de su propia familia, pues se podría
malinterpretar su participación como aprobación de ese matrimonio invalido de parte de la Iglesia cual ellos, por ser
clero, representan. Familiares que no son clero deben de optar por la decisión que sea mas amorosa y caritativa en la
medida que sus conciencias les permitan, que en lo general significa asistir a esas celebraciones en vez de rechazar a
sus seres queridos. En el caso que les sea imposible asistir a la celebración en buena conciencia, deben de al menos
actuar con compasión, respetando la dignidad humana de todos aquellos que estén envueltos en la celebración.
Estas mismas normas son aplicable para con aquellos matrimonios entre parejas heterosexuales que son inválidos
por falta de anulación de una previa unión.
