Thoughts from Our Pastor
Rev. John P. Broheimer
With open hearts and much gratitude to God and the Archbishop we welcome the Reverend James de Anda back to St.
Peter Parish as the parochial vicar. I am very glad to have his
part-time assistance in the parish. His time will be divided
between the parish and working for the Tribunal. If you
don't know Father yet, he is a generous, intelligent, and hard
-working priest. Please pray for him and all priests.
Fr. de Anda is a native of South Omaha. He attended Central High School here in downtown Omaha, graduated from
the University of Saint Paul in St. Paul, MN, followed by his
priestly formation at Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg, MD. He was ordained in 2005 by Archbishop
Elden F. Curtiss and was assigned to several parishes
throughout the Archdiocese of Omaha, his first being St.
Peter Church. In 2013 he returned to the east coast for graduate studies in canon law at The Catholic University of
America in Washington, D.C.
Pro Life Essay Contest Winner
We are pleased to inform the parish that one of our parishioners, Miss Ellie Koch, has won the Nebraska State Pro
Life Essay contest for all students in the 11th grade. May
God continue to bless and inspire all of us to protect innocent lives from abortion, euthanasia and all offenses against
God’s precious gift of life. Here is her essay.
We are called to defend life, from conception to death, and
this includes not only defeating the culture of death, but also
cultivating a culture of life. One way to do this is to support
mothers in difficult situations, because it is from an environment of love and acceptance that they will find the confidence to choose life. To be pro-life means to respect, defend, and value the life of every person, and this includes
mothers struggling to choose life for their unborn children.
Abortion is unnatural and illogical, not to mention
sinful, yet hundreds of women get abortions every day.
However, a woman who knows that she is loved, respected,
and has someone to turn to, is far less likely to consider
abortion than one who is rejected and abandoned. Jesus
doesn’t condemn the adulteress in the Gospel, rather, He
pours out His infinite mercy on her, that she might receive
new life. As Catholics, we must follow this example by extending the mercy of God to those who are lost and broken,
and loving them with the love of Christ.
This calling to care for these mothers is unique to
each person: one might need financial support; one might
need encouragement or advice; one might need shelter. But
there is something they all have in common; they all need
love, mercy, and prayers. We can reach out to these troubled
women in a number of ways, including volunteering at a

crisis pregnancy center or giving time or money to organizations that care for mothers. A fundamental way to assist
them is to lead them to understand that the life they carry
within them is a gift, an eternal soul, and that God can bring
good out of their choices and He will always provide. It is
also important to respect and love every person we encounter, whether it is a woman in a difficult pregnancy or a proabortion activist, a friend or an enemy, because each of them
is a beloved child of God. This will have a deeper impact
than any rhetoric or arguments we use. Above all, we must
pray and sacrifice for an end to abortion and the culture of
death. We must always see the Face of Christ in these mothers, and trust that God will change hearts through our willingness to create a culture of life.
RCIA
Are you a teen or adult who needs Baptism? Are you an
adult Catholic who never received Confirmation and/or
First Communion? Do you have adult friends who would
like to become Catholic Christians? Consider our RCIA classes. RCIA stands for the Rite of Christian Initiation for
Adults. It includes weekly evening meeting for adults, ages
16 and above, who wish to receive any of the Sacraments of
Initiation. The classes in English occur on Tuesday nights
from 7:15 pm until 9:00 pm, and in Spanish on Monday
nights from 7:15 pm until 8:30 pm. Classes in English will
begin tentatively on Sept. 13, and will continue through May
2017. To register for RCIA, please contact the parish office
or Father Broheimer. Don’t let this opportunity pass you by.
Homeschool Sacramental Preparation and Catechism
Registrations for our catechism classes for children, and for
homeschooled children who are preparing to receive a Sacrament during the coming school year, are available in the
Catechism Office (room 103 of the school) on Wednesdays
from 5:30 pm-7:00 pm, and on Saturdays from 10:30 am12:00 noon. Please bring the child’s birth and Baptism certificates. Catechism classes began last week. Confirmation classes are offered on both days this year. Tuition payments are

a Dios y al Arzobispo que damos una vez
más bienvenida al Padre James de Anda a
San Pedro como vicario parroquial. Estoy
muy contento tener su ayuda a tiempo parcial en la parroquia. Su tiempo estará dividido entre la parroquia y el tribunal de la arquidiócesis. Si aún no conocen al Padre de Anda,
es un sacerdote generoso, inteligente y trabajador. Por favor, recen por él y por todos los sacerdotes.
El Padre de Anda oriunda del sur de Omaha. Asistió a la
escuela preparatoria Central High. Recibió sus grados universitarios de la Universidad de Saint Paul en St. Paul, Minnesota seguido por su formación sacerdotal en el seminario
Mount Saint Mary’s en Emmitsburg, Maryland. Fue ordenado por el Arzobispo Elden F. Curtiss en al año 2005 y asignado a varias parroquias en la Arquidiócesis de Omaha, la
primera de ellas siendo San Pedro. En el año 2013, regresó a
la costa este para comenzar su estudio posgrado en derecho

Maverick Students for Life – a note from
Stephen Schreffler
As many of you know, I am a long-time
parishioner and altar server. What you
may not know is I am also a member of
the Maverick Students for Life. We are a
new, pro-life student organization on
UNO’s campus. Our goal is to spread the
pro-life message on campus as well as provide actual resources for women on campus who find themselves in an unexpected
pregnancy. We are a branch of the Students for Life of America, a nationwide
organization dedicated to ending abortion
in our time. We advocate and provide materials for adoption and parenting as well
as inform and educate students about the
reality of abortion through outreach and
conversation. We are in need of support.

OPS Students’ Opt-Out Form
If you have a child attending Omaha Public Schools, there is an important form to
opt-out of its new comprehensive sex education program that will be taught to OPS
students in grades 4-8 & 10 beginning this
Fall 2016. There is information in the program that is contrary to the Catholic faith.

to our catechism
program, we can
use it for our
Confirmation
students. Books
may be given to the parish office, the catechism office, or to head catechist Kevin
Engelkamp.
Study on Eucharistic Adoration
Coming this Fall - a Catholic study on Eucharistic Adoration. Sources will include
the Holy Bible, The Catechism of the
Catholic Church, teachings of the Church
Fathers, and more. The class will be held
tentatively on Tuesday evenings. More
information to come.
SVdP Food Pantry
St. Peter St. Vincent de Paul
Food Pantry currently needs
pasta sauce, cereal, soup/
ramen and napkins. Donations may be left in the bins
near the Church entrances or
the parish office. All donations are appreciated.
St. Peter St. Vincent de Paul Society
is partnering with St. Vincent de Paul
Thrift Store, 2101 Leavenworth. St. Peter
SVdP Conference will receive 10% of the
stores sales to help the poor, and in return
we provide volunteers to help sort, tag and
display items in the store. This would be a
perfect family project. What better way to
show your kids how to hang up their
clothes! Seriously, the stores desperately
need our help and we need the store to
stay open, so we can send our clients in the
neighborhood to get furniture and clothes.

Preparación Sacramental & Devociones
Requisitos para Bautismo y Padrinos
Padres de niños que serán Bautizados en la
Iglesia de San Pedro deberán estar feligreses
registrados y activos de la Parroquia de San
Pedro por lo menos de tres meses. Padrinos
deberán de ser iniciados completamente, practicando el Catolicismo, asistir en la Misa todo
domingo y día de guardar, y si están casados,
casados por la Iglesia Católica, y tienen 16
años o más, y sus propios hijos deben ser Bautizados. Los padrinos toman sobre sí unas
obligaciones muy serias cuando apadrinan una
persona para el Bautismo y deben ser virtuosos y fieles católicos. Los padrinos deben presentar una carta de aprobación firmada por el
párroco de su parroquia. Para padrinos casados, por favor llevar copia de la acta de Matrimonio por la Iglesia Católica. El cursillo Bautismal se ofrecen cada dos meses en tres domingos. Bautismos en español son ofrecidos
usualmente el primer, segundo y tercer sábado
del mes a las 9:00 am y el cuarto domingo del
mes a las 2:30 pm. Para más información favor

Primera Comunión y Confirmación
Todas las clases para niños se dan de septiembre a mayo cada año. Inscripciones están de
mayo a agosto cada año. Clases están en los
sábados de las 10:30 am a 12:00 mediodía, y
los miércoles de las 5:30 pm a 7:00 pm. Si el
niño es Bautizado, es requerido presentar un
certificado de Bautismo. Los niños deben asistir en clases por lo menos dos años antes de

RICA y Catecismo para adultos
Todos aquellos de más de 16 años o más quienes desean llegar a ser católicos y/o recibir los

Matrimonio/Bodas
Feligreses quienes están registrados por lo
mínimo de seis meses son elegibles para comenzar preparación matrimonial en la Iglesia
de San Pedro. La Arquidiócesis requiere por lo
menos seis meses de preparación previo a la
fecha de la boda. Para iniciar la preparación
matrimonial contacten la oficina parroquial
para instrucciones en inglés o en español.
Quinceañeras
Para poder celebrar la fiesta de sus quince
años en la Iglesia de San Pedro, se deben considerar los siguientes requisitos:
• La quinceañera y su familia deben estar
registrados como feligreses de la Iglesia
San Pedro por lo menos tres meses.
• La quinceañera debe haber recibido los
sacramentos de iniciación (Bautismo,
Confirmación, Eucaristía) y debe participar activamente en la parroquia, particularmente en las Misas dominicales y el
pastoral juvenil.
• La quinceañera debe presentar copias de
los certificados de Confirmación y Primera Comunión en la oficina parroquial.
• La quinceañera debe haber asistido en las
pláticas de preparación en la Iglesia de
San Pedro (Usualmente las clases están
ofrecidas en los meses de febrero, mayo,
agosto y noviembre).
No pueden fijar la fecha de la celebración más
de seis meses antes del día. Para mayores informes, favor contacten la secretaria parroquial.
