The Parable
of the
Boulder
There is a story of a
man who lived in a
cabin in the woods,
who was weak and
sickly. Although he
was very sick, he could
not afford to go into
town to the doctor,
and his condition

cabaña en el bosque,
quién era enfermizo y
débil. Aunque estuviera
muy enfermo, por su
pobreza él no podía ir al

Delante de su cabaña había una roca
muy grande. Una noche, en una visión,
Dios le dijo que empujará aquella roca
enorme todo el día, cada día.
In front of his cabin was a huge
boulder. One night, in a vision, God
told him to push that huge rock all day
long, every day.
El hombre comenzó de
madrugada, y con gran
entusiasmo empujó la
roca hasta el almuerzo,
entonces él descansó
un rato y empujó la
roca hasta la cena. Cada
día él empujó.
Fielmente él empujaba
contra la roca durante días, durante
semanas, durante meses.
The man began early
in the morning, and
with great excitement
he pushed the rock
until lunch, then he
rested a while and
pushed the rock until
supper time. Every
day he pushed.
Faithfully he pushed against the rock
for days, for weeks, for months.
Después de 8 meses de empujar la roca,
el hombre se había cansado de
empujarla tanto. Él comenzó a dudar
de su sueño.
After 8 months of pushing the rock,
the man was getting tired of pushing it
so much. He began to doubt his
dream.
Un día él midió de su
puerta a la roca, y
después de empujar la
roca diariamente, él
midió para ver cuánto
la había movido.
Después de dos semanas
de empujar y medir, se
dio cuenta que no había
movido la roca en absoluto; ni un
milímetro.
One day he measured
from his porch to the
rock, and after daily
pushing the rock, he
would measure to see
how much he had
moved it. After two
weeks of pushing and
measuring, he realized
he had not moved the boulder at all;
not even a fraction of an inch.
Él se desanimó mucho. Él pensaba que
el sueño no había sido tan especial,
ahora, después de 9 meses, él vio que
todo su trabajo no había llevado a cabo
nada. Él estuvo cansado y desalentado;
su sueño pareció no significar nada; tal
vez él sólo lo había imaginado.
He was so disappointed. He thought
the dream was so special but now, after
9 months, he saw that all his work had
accomplished nothing. He was tired
and discouraged; his dream seemed to
mean nothing; maybe he had only
imagined it.
El hombre se sentó en
su puerta y gritó. Él
había invertido cientos
de horas en nada. ¡No
era nada! Entonces
Jesús vino al hombre y
preguntó, '¿Por qué
gritas?'
The man sat on his
porch and cried. He
had invested hundreds
of hours in nothing.
It was all nothing!
Then Jesus came to
the man and asked,
“Why are you crying?"
El hombre contestó, 'Señor, sabes que
estoy enfermo y débil, y este sueño me
dio una esperanza falsa. He empujado
con toda mi fuerza por más de 9 meses,
y aquella roca está exactamente donde
estaba cuando comencé. “
The man replied, "Lord, You know how
sick and weak I am, and then this dream
gave me a false hope. I have pushed
with all my strength for over 9 months,
and that rock is right where it was when
I started.“
Jesús amablemente le dijo, 'nunca te
dije que movieras la roca, sólo te dije
que la empujaras.' El hombre contestó,
'Sí, Señor, es lo que me dijiste que
hiciera.'
Jesus kindly said to him, "I never told
you to move the rock, I only told you
to push against it." The man replied,
"Yes, Sir, that’s what you told me to do.”
Jesús dijo al hombre que
fuera al espejo y se
mirara.
Obedeciendo, el
Hombre fue delante
del espejo. ¡Él se
asombró! Él era alguien
tan enfermizo y débil,
pero lo que él vio en el espejo fue un
hombre musculoso y fuerte. Entonces
él se dio cuenta que desde un tiempo él
no tosía toda por las noche. De hecho,
él se sintió bien durante varios meses, y
él se dio cuenta de la fuerza que él
había ganado por empujar contra la
roca.
En aquel momento el hombre
entendió que el plan de Dios no era
para la roca, era para él.
Jesus told the man to
go to the mirror and
look at himself.
Obeying, the man
stood in front of the
mirror and was
amazed! he had been
so sickly and weak,
but what he saw in the mirror was a
strong muscular man. Then he
realized that he had not been coughing
all night. In fact, he had been feeling
well for several months, and he became
aware of the strength that he had built
by pushing on the rock.
At that moment the man understood
that God’s plan was not for the rock, it
was for him.
EL PUNTO:
Podemos desalentarnos
mucho cuando
tratamos de hacer cosas
en el servicio de Dios.
Nuestros esfuerzos
parecen no producir
nada, no hacer ninguna
diferencia.
THE POINT:
We can become quite
discouraged as we try
to do things in God’s
service. Our efforts
seem to produce
nothing, to make no
difference.
Estamos desanimados y comenzamos a
dudar de nuestro servicio. Decimos:
“¡todo este esfuerzo! ¿Y para qué?”
We are discouraged and begin to doubt
our service to Him. We say: “All this
effort! And for what?”
Por mis esfuerzos y los tuyos, Dios
forma a personas. Los procesos,
tormentas, y desilusiones - las rocas
enormes - todos son parte del proceso.
La verdad es que Dios quizás no trabaja
en las piedras que tú tratas de empujar:
es posible que Él trabaja en tí.
Through my efforts and yours, God is
building people. The trials, storms, and
disappointments—the huge rocks-- all
are part of the process. The truth is
that God may not be working on the
stones you are trying to push: He may
be working on you.
Jeremías 29:10-11
Así dijo Jehová: Cuando
en Babilonia se cumplan
los setenta años, yo os
visitaré, y despertaré
sobre vosotros mi buena
palabra, para haceros
volver a este lugar.
Porque yo sé los
pensamientos que
tengo acerca de vosotros…
pensamientos de paz, y no de mal, para
daros el fin que esperáis.
Jeremiah 29:10-11
This is what the Lord
says: "When seventy
years are completed
for Babylon, I will
come to you and
fulfill my gracious
promise to bring you
back to this place. For
I know the plans I
have for you…plans to prosper you
and not to harm you, plans to give you
hope and a future.
En Babilonia, idos eran todos los planes:
futuro de la familia … el negocio
la educación
… sueños/ambiciones
In Babylon, gone were all plans for:
future of the family … business
education
… dreams/ambitions
¿Fue todo su trabajo para nada?
¿Esfuerzo gastado? ¿Vida sin objetivo?
Was all their work for nothing?
Wasted effort? Life w/o purpose?
Dios: Les preparo para reconstruir la
ciudad, la nación – para servir Mi
objetivo no los suyos; no importa que
vosotros no podais verlo
God: I am preparing you to rebuild the
city, the nation – to serve my purpose,
not yours; that you can’t see it doesn’t
matter
Aunque afligido yo y
necesitado, Jehová
pensará en mí.
– Sal 40:17
As for me, I am poor
and needy, but the
Lord takes thought
for me. - Psa 40:17
Dios no nos da las
oportunidades que son
inútiles o sin propósito.
Nuestra responsabilidad
es servir y trabajar con toda nuestra
mente y poder, confiando que Dios
producirá el resultado que ÉL quiere,
aun si simplemente es hacer de mí lo
que Él quiere que yo sea.
God does not give us
opportunities that are
useless or w/o purpose
Our responsibility is
to serve and to work with all our mind
and might, trusting that God will
produce the result HE wants, even if it
simply is to make of me what He wants
me to be.
Quizás Dios trabaja en mí, no en las
rocas que empujo:
Cuando todo
otra gente
está cumplido,
mi educación
Él decidirá
mi negocio
como debería
parecer.
mi proyecto especial
God may be working on me, not on
When it’s all the rocks I’m pushing:
done, He will other people
decide what it my education
is supposed to my business
look like.
my special project
Dios siempre piensa en
nosotros, y Él sabe lo
que Él quiere llevar a
cabo, si en nosotros o
por nosotros.
God always is thinking
about us and knows
what He wants to
accomplish, whether
in us or through us.
Si te parece que no
haces nada más que
empujar contra una roca
enorme, sigue
empujando y deja a Dios decidir lo que
debe ser llevado a cabo y cuando será
llevado a cabo.
If you feel like you are
doing nothing more
than pushing against a
huge rock, just keep
on pushing and let God decide what is
to be accomplished and when it will be
accomplished.
No preguntes: ¿“por qué su roca es
más pequeña que la mía?”
Don’t ask: “Why is his rock smaller
than mine?”
Ni : ¿“por qué su roca es más grande?”
Or: “Why is his rock bigger?”
Empuja la roca que Dios te da, y déjale
a El hacer de ti lo que Él desea. No
dejes que el desaliento, la duda o su
incapacidad de entender, haga que dejes
de empujar. Tu desarrollo es el tesoro,
no lo que está bajo la roca.
Push the rock God gives you, and let
Him make of you what He desires.
Don’t let discouragement, doubt, or
your inability to understand cause you
to stop pushing. Your development is
the treasure, not what is under the rock.

pensamientos de paz, y no de
mal, para daros
el fin que
esperáis.

I know the
plans I have for
you…plans to
prosper you and not to
