Preposición of + nombre. Ejemplos Ejemplo 1: Pam sees her son once a week. Ejemplo 2: Eva and Tom eat with their father. Fíjate en los siguientes ejemplos: We like your computer very much. We like yours very much. Nos gusta vuestro ordenador mucho. Nos gusta el vuestro mucho. Nota:"yours" sustituye a "your computer". It is our house. It's ours. Es nuestra casa. Es nuestra. Nota: En este caso, "ours" sustituye a "our house". Charles's shirt is blue. I like Socrates' ideas. No se dice, pues, The Mark's guitar sino Mark's guitar. 2. He's my brothers' teacher. Él es el profesor de mis hermanos. I like those men's car. Me gusta el coche de esos hombres. Tom and Emma's car is big. She is Peter's brother's wife. Spain's lifestyle is healthy. Ejemplo 2: That is the computer of one of the doctors at the hospital. Para referirnos a acciones temporales en el presente, o a acciones transitorias I'm learning German this year. More and more workers are sharing their cars when they go to work. You are always making strange noises when I watch TV. I'm getting married on May 2nd. "Can all the verbs be used in continuous tenses?" Have a look at "Stative verbs". Verbos que expresan estado o posesión: be (ser, estar), have (got) (tener), own (poseer), belong to (pertenecer a). I don't understand you. No te entiendo. He knows what you are doing. Él sabe lo que estás haciendo. We don't like pasta. No nos gusta la pasta. I hate dancing. Odio bailar. That song sounds very well. Esa canción suena muy bien. That coffee tastes delicious. Ese café sabe delicioso. That shirt doesn't cost very much. Esa camisa no cuesta mucho. "How much do you weigh?" "¿Cuánto pesas?" We haven't got any carrots. No tenemos zanahorias. That house belongs to me. Esa casa me pertenece. My father is tasting the soup to see if it tastes too salty. My grandma is weighing herself because she is on a diet. I think she weighs too much. I am thinking about catching the bus tomorrow but my wife thinks that I will not arrive on time. Marta is seeing a nurse next week. She's having lunch right now. My friends (swim) in the river. Emily (watch) TV in her bedroom. Formación de palabras: Adjetivos compuestos In the rainy afternoons, my wife and I play word games with our children. It is an easy and funny way for us to spend some time together. Let's see one of the games we play, it's called "Find the partner": We deliver five cards for each one of us and, in turns, we ask each other for a card. The winner of the game is the one who finds all the partners for the cards. We don't bet any money, we only want to have a laugh. We used to play this game when the children were small because they learnt lots of words that way. Last Saturday we played with Compound Adjectives such as: hotheaded, badly-behaved, cold-hearted, etc. Mark and Alice played word games with their children in the rainy afternoons. Well, I don't look like Robert Redford, my favourite actor, who has got fair hair and blue eyes. My hair is short and dark and I've got brown eyes. "What about my personality?" Well, I'm funny and friendly and sometimes a bit moody, but I think that my wife and children should describe me, it would be better. "And what about my hobbies?" I like reading, sports, not the extreme ones, and all sorts of music, but I prefer rock. I like old guitarists very much and I spend hours playing my old guitar. Además, podemos usar esta fórmula para preguntar por lugares: "What is London like?" "It's a huge city." "¿Cómo es Londres?" "Es una ciudad enorme." No se debe confundir "what + to be + subject + like"? con "what + do/does + subject + look like?" ni con las preguntas con "How + TO BE + subject?". "How are you?" "Fine, thanks." "¿Cómo estás?" " Bien, gracias." En este caso es un saludo. "How is your brother today?" "He's better, thank you." Recurso: How to guess the meanings of unfamiliar words? 3. I tidy my room on Sundays. I want to go to work. I met Carla in the park. We go to Rome on Mondays. On Mondays we go to Rome. Los lunes nosotros vamos a Roma. The children sing happily in their classroom every morning Los niños cantan felices en su clase cada mañana. Mark's dog is very big. El perro de Mark es muy grande. Mark has got a very big dog.
