Procesos etnolingüísticos en la Mesopotamia súmero-acadia. Buscando las trazas
de la identidad y la alteridad con un enfoque interdisciplinar.

Presentación
La comprensión de los procesos étnicos, tan urgente en la actualidad, ha demostrado su
importancia a lo largo de la historia de la humanidad; los mismos no son en absoluto
modernos, ya que se refieren a los contactos entre diversas poblaciones discretas y sus
consecuencias, vínculos de los que se tiene constancia desde la prehistoria, y que en
condiciones particulares condujeron a la conformación, ampliación o extinción de
identidades colectivas.
La propuesta que se presenta está focalizada en el estudio de la baja y media
Mesopotamia en la llanura de los ríos Éfurates y Tigris (el país de Súmer y Acad, espacio
conocido más tardíamente como Babilonia), durante el III milenio a.C. La misma está
fuertemente enclavada en la comprensión teórica de los complejos procesos étnicos que
en la larga duración se maceran junto a los procesos de centralidad política,
desigualdades sociales y sustentos ideológico-religiosos, en contextos socio-culturales
particulares, y que protagonizan múltiples actores sociales que es posible reconocer a
partir de fuentes arqueológicas y textuales .
El énfasis teórico explica la mirada de enfoque amplio sobre casi un milenio, que es el del
despliegue del protagonismo de los grupos etnolingüísticos sumerio y acadio y el de la
fluctuación de sus identidades, en contacto con otros grupos étnicos (amorreos, elamitas,
guteos, entre otros). El análisis en la larga duración será objeto de tratamiento
metodológico, ya que el mismo está sesgado por los estratos de fuentes disponibles. De
igual modo se considerará la posibilidad de realizar una interpretación adecuada
accediendo a la difusión controlada científicamente de los estudios filológicos.
El estudio de los procesos étnicos en el área seleccionada tiene un interés adicional, que
es contribuir a reparar el abandono de la temática étnica que se produce en este campo,
consecuencia de la prejuiciado relación entre etnia, lengua y raza que fuera característica
de las indagaciones de fines del siglo XIX y hasta la 2ª Guerra Mundial. A su vez la
emergencia de la etnoarqueología viene empujando esta reconsideración. Los enfoques
desde esta disciplina, de la antropología social, la etnología, el peso del “giro cultural” y
las teorías del discurso, hacen necesaria una mirada abierta sobre estos problemas.
Objetivos

Sistematizar los problemas teórico-metodológicos específicos de las sociedades
antiguas, en particular referidos a la problemática de la etnicidad.

Identificar las posiciones historiográficas predominantes desde fines del siglo XIX,
las inflexiones teóricas renovadoras y los aportes desde otros campos.

Analizar situaciones históricas concretas, a partir de los conceptos y de las
problemáticas abordadas, en las áreas de predominio etnolingüístico sumerio,
acadio y posterior presencia amorrea durante el III milenio.

Estimular el debate sobre la bibliografía sugeridas a partir de las exposiciones de
los participantes.

Promover la lectura crítica del análisis positivista de las fuentes.

Orientar metodológica y técnicamente para la elaboración del trabajo final.
Contenidos Temáticos :

Ubicación de la problemática de la identidad y la alteridad en el contexto de las
sociedades antiguas. Problemas teórico-metodológicos de reconstrucción de
identidades étnicas extinguidas. Posibilidad de seguimiento de procesos étnicos.
Importancia de las fuentes textuales y nuevas modalidades interpretativas. El rol
de la etnoarqueología.

Los grupos etnolingüísticos sumerio y acadio. Importancia de su ubicación espacial
y el análisis de la circulación de personas y bienes materiales y simbólicos a través
de sus espacios de predominio político. Relación entre los procesos sociopolíticos, las bases culturales y la permeabilidad o fricción de las relaciones
interétnicas.

La amorreización de la Mesopotamia y la supervivencia de la cultura súmeroacadia. El espacio político y simbólico de la Mesopotamia: “las cuatro partes del
mundo (Subartu, Amurrum, Elam, Súmer) y su centro: Babilonia. Posibilidad de
vincular procesos étnicos y constitución de relaciones “centro-periferia”. Valor
heurístico de esta categoría.
Modalidad de Trabajo:

Presentación general de las temáticas por parte del profesor

Clases teóricas participativas con discusión bibliográfica y análisis de fuentes.

Elección por los alumnos de un tema y formulación del problema. Construcción de
la propuesta de trabajo final del seminario a través de la orientación bibliográfica y
metodológica y la discusión y elaboración conjunta.

Régimen de cursado:

Asistencia del 75% de las clases dictadas.

Participación activa y responsable en la discusión de las temáticas presentadas.

Elaboración y presentación de dos resúmenes realizados en base a las lecturas
sugeridas.

Preparación y presentación del trabajo final.
Evaluación:

Entrega de resúmenes y exposición en clase.

Trabajo final: elección y desarrollo de un problema con breve fundamentación
teórica.
Duración: 30 horas reloj (24 presenciales - 6 consulta)
Fecha de dictado: junio de 2006; días y horario a confirmar.

El presente listado es sólo indicativo para la búsqueda de respuestas a las problemáticas
planteadas. Se descuenta que los alumnos de posgrado conocen la bibliografía básica
referida al tema etnicidad, por lo tanto se consigna sólo la vinculada a sociedades
