ABOUT THE STUDY
The 2013 Flaspöhler Survey - Cedants’ Perceptions of Reinsurers (Life – LATAM) was initiated in
2011 as a biennial, quantitative study of cedants’ opinions of life reinsurers who operate in Latin
America and the Caribbean. This second study was undertaken under the co-sponsorship of
many of the key global reinsurers who operate in this region.
The survey instrument consists of about 30 questions about reinsurer utilization, perceptions of
reinsurers and related topics. Fourteen (14) reinsurers were presented for evaluation:

These survey results are based on responses by 250 cedants, representing 133 companies in 24
countries. The overall results of this study are accurate to within ±4.2% at a 90% level of
confidence. The analysis here is presented in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
The next study in this sequence is planned for 2015.

We asked cedants to tell us how easy it is to do business with the reinsurers they use. Cedants
rated reinsurers on a scale from 0 (difficult to do business with) to 10 (very easy to do business
with), giving an average score for each reinsurer.
