Program: Every Woman Counts, which offers free breast
exams, mammograms, pap smears, and other diagnostic
services for eligible uninsured, low income women age forty
and older through a contracted regional network of primary
care providers. Providers are also Medi-Cal providers; many
also offer other preventative health services through Family
Pact and Healthy Families. Public education. Professional
education courses including periodic workshops on medical
interpretation skills and cultural competency skills.

Community Memorial Health System offers free
mammograms, cervical cancer Screening/Vaccine and
healthcare education to the first 35 women who qualify at a
local Center for Family Health office. Mammograms are
offered 7 times during the year, in different areas of the
county. They are done by appointment only through the
Community Memorial Health Systems’ Centers for Family
Health. Who should have this screening? Woman who are
35 years and over and woman with no symptoms and who
are low income and uninsured. The women also receive a
clinical breast exam, and screening for anemia, diabetes,
blood pressure and weight.
Community Memorial Health System (Sistema de Salud del
hospital Memorial de la Comunidad) ofrece mamograma

The CMH Cancer Resource Center. Free services
for the cancer patient and their families include a
library, research assistance, internet access and
assistance, Spanish language brochures and
programs, listing of cancer information sources,
cancer related publications from the American
Cancer Society, CancerCare, the National Cancer
Institute on site specific cancers, cancer treatment,
side effects of cancer treatment and other cancer
related subjects. The CMH CRC also provides
monthly lectures on cancer topics, an annual cancer
symposium for the public, a wig and hat bank,
spiritual care services, quarterly ACS Look Good
Feel Better program, and listings of local community
resources. The CMH CRC also provides the support

El Centro de Seno – ofrece mamografía digital con

The Breast Center – provides state-of-the-art digital
mammography with computer aided detection

The Breast Center also serves the uninsured and
underinsured cancer patient with financial support
programs for diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Also
provides services for screening of cervical cancer and
the Gardasil vaccine at either low or no cost.
daVinci Robotic Surgery – CMH is the only hospital in
Ventura county with the daVinci robot, a minimally
invasive surgical technique to treat prostate and colon
cancer.

 St. John’s offers complete cancer screening and
diagnostic capability. The laboratory and pathology
departments offer frozen and permanent section
diagnosis, special stain interpretation, and superficial
FNA biopsies. Diagnostic imaging technology
includes full field digital mammography, ultrasound,
computerized tomography (CT), magnetic resonance
imaging (MRI)

Referrals of consumers to ensure that they are linked to
medical care, mental health services, low-cost or free legal
services, and, if they qualify through income documentation,
the agency's food pantry. Staff collaborates and networks
with other area service providers including the Transitional
Case Management Project (which works with men and
women being released from prison), Ventura County Public
Health HIV/AIDS Nurse Case Management, Immunology
Clinic and other community-based organizations to identify
underserved Ventura County residents living with HIV or
AIDS. Effective referral and advocacy services mean that
someone who is newly diagnosed with HIV and may not
know where to turn for assistance can work with trained
staff and peer advocates for referrals to medical care and
social services

second opinion, especially for elective
surgery. They may reimburse you even if
the second opinion is not mandated. Find
out whether you’re covered, particularly if
you belong to an HMO or another
managed-care organization. Determine
whether the second doctor must be a
network member
