INTRODUCCIÓN
This on-line directory to cancer resources for the low
income and insured was developed by the Ventura
County Access to Cancer Care Coalition Committee
in 2009 as a referral resource and originally
published in 2010 by that group with funds received
as part of the California Dialogue on Cancer project.
In 2010 the guide was updated by the Tri-Counties
Cancer Detection Partnership (TCDP) of the Santa
Barbara County Public Health Department and
expanded by the new Santa Barbara Access to
Cancer Care agency coalition to include additional
Santa Barbara County resources and by TCDP to
include San Luis Obispo County resources.

to care services in the Gold Coast.

Mammograms are offered 7 times during the year, in
different areas of the county. They are done by
appointment only through the Community
Memorial Health Systems’ Centers for Family Health.
Who should have this screening? Woman who are 35
years and over and woman with no symptoms and
who are low income and uninsured. The women also
receive a clinical breast exam, and screening for
anemia, diabetes, blood pressure and weight.

The CMH Cancer Resource Center. Free services for
the cancer patient and their families include a library,
research assistance, internet access and assistance,

College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer and
received accreditation with commendation as well
as the 2008 Outstanding Achievement Award for a
new Cancer Program. Prostate Institute – Early
detection of prostate cancer through use of prostate
specific antigen (PSA) tests, digital rectal examx
(DRE), and Color-Doppler Transrectal Ultrasound
(TRUS) exams with the emphasis on accurate
diagnosis and empowerment of the patients by
assisting them in making decisions regarding their
care and treatment. Duke Bahn, M.D., Director of the
Prostate Institute, is internationally recognized as
one of the world’s leading practitioners in the study
and treatment of prostate cancer. The Breast Center
– provides state-of-the-art digital mammography
with computer aided detection technology, breast
ultrasound with Color-Doppler, breast MRI,
ultrasound guided biopsy, computer-assisted
stereotactic core biopsy and needle localization
biopsy. The Breast Center also serves the uninsured
and underinsured cancer patient with financial
support programs for diagnosis and treatment of
cancer. Also provides services for screening of
cervical cancer and the Gardasil vaccine at either low
or no cost.

Home Health Care: Under doctor's orders, patients
receive nursing care and rehabilitation services at

therapy and speech therapy.
Hospice provides comfort and care at the end of life
at home or in a different living facility. The hospice
team includes physicians, nurses, hospice aides,

bereavement counselors. Working with your doctor,
they provide expert medical care and pain and
symptom relief. Serenity House, the only residential
hospice in Santa Barbara county, is available for
patients who require intensive symptom
management.
Personal Care Services support independence and
safety at home. Caregivers help with recovery from
an illness or injury, assist with daily activities or offer
companionship. A free in-home assessment is
available.
Palliative Care provides pain and symptom relief and
psychosocial and spiritual support for patients and
their families who are facing a life threatening illness,
whether it's within or outside the hospital setting.

Since 1997, The Breast Cancer Resource Center of
Santa Barbara as an independent 501(c)(3)
organization, has been committed to act as a
clearinghouse of information, support and referral
service conduit for women diagnosed with breast
cancer or dealing with benign breast health issues.
We do so by providing a free lending library, peer
emotional support, educational programs and
community outreach, one-on-one mentoring and

Community Hospital (AGCH) and a dedicated group
of local physicians have partnered to establish the
Coastal Cancer Care in Pismo Beach. When cancer
strikes, people want their care provided close to

know and trust. AGCH's The Coastal Cancer Care is
the first of its kind on the Central Coast, and one of a
few such centers in the nation offering convenient
access to the latest in prevention, diagnosis,
treatment and clinical trials. The center houses

located on the Pismo Medical Campus – only 1.8
miles form Arroyo Grande Community Hospital.

continues to support this fund, and we have
distributed more than $30,000 in assistance to
survivors since its inception.

The Wellness Community is part of an international
not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing
free support, education and hope to men and

mind/body connection classes, people affected by
