Dear City Schools parents and guardians,
Enclosed are your child’s scores on the new PARCC tests that high school students took last
spring. Depending on their grade and schedule, scores could include results for Algebra I,
Algebra II, English language arts 10, or English language arts 11. The tests measure whether
students are on track for success as they get ready for college and careers. They are based on
new, higher state standards in English language arts, literacy, and math.
The PARCC tests are much more challenging than tests your child has taken before. At City
Schools, like in districts across the state, the results are not where we want them to be. The
majority of students scored at levels 1 to 3, meaning they have not yet met the new standards.
As you talk about the scores with your child, please keep in mind that PARCC is only one way
we measure progress in math, English language arts, and literacy. These scores are not part of
report card grades. However, students taking Algebra I and English 10 for the first time this
school year will be required to pass PARCC or, in some instances, a bridge project, to graduate.
The PARCC results are an important tool to help you, your child, and your child’s teachers see
where he or she is doing well or needs extra help. Your child’s teachers will be working this year
to make sure the help they provide meets your child’s individual needs.
One way you can support your child’s success in school is by staying in touch with his or her
teacher. The more teachers know about their students, the more individual needs can be met. At
home, please talk to your child about what’s happening in school, make sure homework is
finished, and encourage your child to read every day outside of school.
It will take time for all of us to adjust to the new standards, but it is important that we continue to
work hard to help students meet them. Our high expectations for our young people tell them that
we want them to have big goals for themselves, and that we will work to support them in
reaching successful futures.
Please contact your child’s teacher or principal if you have additional questions about the
PARCC scores and the resources and services available through your school to help your child

Adjuntamos las puntuaciones que su hijo obtuvo en las nuevas pruebas PARCC que los estudiantes de
escuela secundaria tomaron la primavera pasada. Según el grado y calendario, las puntuaciones
podrían incluir resultados de Álgebra I, Álgebra II, artes del idioma inglés 10 o artes del idioma inglés
