Dear People and Friends of San Juan Bautista,
Que el SEÑOR, conceda a usted y a su familia
un Bendecido 2016, lleno de felicidad, santidad y
buena salud. Que este Jubileo de Misericordia se un
tiempo de aun más Discípulos Verdaderos en el
Señ
or.
Al continuar con nuestra celebración de la
Navidad, hoy con la Solemnidad de la Epifanía,
también conocida como la Fiesta de los Tres Reyes
Magos, el recién nacido Rey de los Judíos, es
reconocido como la Luz para el mundo entero. A
través de una estrella, el SEÑOR guio a estos
paganos a la Verdad y les reveló su gran obra— al
Verbo-hecho-Carne, y observen su respuesta:
“al entrar en la casa, vieron al niño con María, su madre.
Entonces se postraron y lo adoraron” (Mateo 2:11).
La temporada de Navidad se esfuerza por profundizar
nuestra relación con Él, que es el Misterio de la Encarnación
— nuestro Dios cerca de nosotros, porque “La Verbo se hizo
carne y habitó entre nosotros”, para acercarnos a Dios. A causa
de la Encarnación, Dios puede decirnos, “Este es mi cuerpo
que será entregado por vosotros”.
La respuesta de los magos, nos recuerda la necesidad de
nuestra respuesta al Señ
or Jesú s, que está en medio de nosotros—
en la Eucaristía. Ante la Divina Presencia, ¿qué más podemos
hacer, sino postrarnos y rendirle homenaje? No obstante, muchas
personas temerosas de Dios que vivieron en la época de los Reyes
Magos, no reconocieron al Verbo hecho Carne, y por tanto no
vinieron a rendirle homenaje.

this Jubilee of Mercy.
As our Christmas celebration
continues with today’s Solemnity of
Epiphany, also known as The Feast of
the Three Kings, the new born King of
the Jews is recognized as the Light for
the whole world. Through a star, the
LORD guided these pagans to the
Truth and revealed to them his mighty work— the Word-madeFlesh. And notice their response:
“on entering the house they saw the child with Mary his mother.
They prostrated themselves and did him homage.”(Matthew2: 11)
The entire Christmas season strives to deepen our
relationship with the One who is the Mystery of the
Incarnation— our God come close to us— for “the Word
became flesh and dwelt among us”— that we might come close
to God. Because of the Incarnation, God is able to say to us,
“This is my Body which will be given up for you.”
The response of the magi reminds us of our necessary
response to the Lord Jesus present in our midst--in the Eucharist.
In the Divine Presence, what can we do, but prostrate ourselves
and do Him homage? Yet, many God-fearing people lived at the
time of the magi and failed to recognize the Word-made-flesh;
thus they did not come to do Him homage.
Son la disposición y la respuesta diferentes hoy en día? La
reverencia y la piedad no son fines en símismos, sino medios para
profundizar nuestra relación con el Verbo hecho Carne ¿Cuántas
personas dicen que creen en Dios, pero no vienen a rendirle
homenaje en la Misa? ¿Cuántos de ustedes entran en Su presencia
a la Iglesia, y sin embargo no lo conocen, actú an casualmente—
mascando chicle, no hacen la genuflexión, visten como si vinieran
al gimnasio, olvidándose de apagar los teléfonos celulares,
conversando, recibiendo la Sagrada Comunión sin la confesión—
como si el SEÑOR estuviera muy lejos. ¿Con qué frecuencia
llegan a la iglesia sólo para hacer una visita al Santísimo
Sacramento y rezar en su Divina presencia?
Guiados por el ejemplo de los Reyes Magos y fortalecidos
por la intercesión de la Bienaventurada Virgen María, lleguemos
al Señ
or Jesú s, no con oro, incienso y mirra, sino con un corazón
humilde y reverente, inclinándonos ante el SEÑOR, rindiéndole
nuestro homenaje.
Con oraciones y bendiciones,
Are attitudes and responses any different today? Reverence
and piety are not ends in themselves, but rather means to deepen
our relationship with the Word made Flesh. How many people say
they believe in God, yet do not come to do Him homage at Mass?
How many do come into his Presence at church, and yet fail to
recognize him, acting casually— chewing gum, not genuflecting,
wearing clothes for the gym, forgetting to turn off cell phones,
holding conversations, receiving Holy Communion without
confession— as though the LORD were far off? How often do
you come to the church just to make a visit to the Blessed
Sacrament and pray in His Divine Presence?
Guided by the example of the Magi and empowered by the
intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, may we come to the
Lord Jesus, not with gold, frankincense, and myrrh, but with
humble and reverent hearts, bowing before the LORD and
offering our homage.

Rendirle Homenaje
Cultivando una Devoción Eucarística
Los Reyes Magos rindieron homenaje al Niño Jesú s, llevándole regalos y postrándose ante Él, aunque no
sabían realmente quién era. Nosotros como católicos, sabemos quien es el Señor y que está presente entre
nosotros en la Eucaristía. Por tanto, cultivar una Devoción a Cristo en la Eucaristía es esencial para tener un
acercamiento al Señor.
  Fidelidad a la Misa Dominical — Encontramos al Señor Resucitado al partir el Pan, que
solamente podemos experimentar en la Misa. Por lo tanto, como católicos tenemos la gran obligación
de asistir a Misa cada Domingo y Días de Obligación. El perder la Misa-excepto por enfermedad grave o que sea
imposible asistir-es pecado grave.
  Preparación Espiritual — La confesión es una preparación necesaria para recibir la Sagrada Comunió n para
cualquier persona consciente de pecado grave. Otra forma de prepararse para la Misa, es la oración diaria en nuestras
vidas, llegar antes de que la Misa empieza, estar atento, orar y estar preparado para sentir a Cristo cerca de nosotros.
  Ayuno — La Iglesia nos obliga a ayunar 1 hora antes de recibir la Santa Comunió n de alimentos y bebidas como el
café— a excepción de la medicina y el agua.
  Vestir Adecuadamente — La forma en que vestimos, transmite a los demás y a nosotros mismos, sí,
reconocemos y valoramos al Señor que está verdaderamente presente para nosotros en la Eucaristía. Las faldas muy
cortas, las camisetas, las sudaderas y los hombres y niños con sombreros en la Iglesia, demuestra el debido respeto al
Señor.
  Buen comportamiento — Arrodillarse frente a Cristo en el tabernáculo no es el ú nico signo de respeto en la
presencia de Cristo. Mantener una actitud de oración, no incluye el chicle, comidas o conversaciones en la Iglesia. Esto
incluye también enseñar a orar a nuestros hijos no permitiendo que corran por toda la Iglesia.
  Oración y adoración ante el Señor — Asistir a la Adoración al Santísimo y visitar la Iglesia durante la
semana para orar en la presencia del Señor, profundiza nuestro amor por Cristo presente entre nosotros.
Doing Him Homage
Cultivating a Eucharistic Devotion
The Magi paid homage to the Baby Jesus, bearing gifts and prostrating themselves before
him, although they did not really know who he was. As Catholics, we do know who the Lord is
and how he is present to us in the Eucharist. Therefore, cultivating a devotion to Christ in the
Eucharist is essential to growing closer to the Lord.
  Faithfulness to Sunday Mass — We encounter the Risen Lord in the Breaking of Bread, which we can only
experience at Mass. Therefore, as Catholics we have the serious obligation to attend Mass every Sunday and every Holy Day.
To miss Mass— except for serious illness or it being impossible to attend— is serious sin.
  Spiritual Preparation — Confession is a necessary preparation to receive Holy Communion for anyone aware of
serious sin. Other preparations for Mass include our daily prayer life and arriving before Mass begins to focus, pray and be
ready for Christ being near to us.
  Fasting — The Church requires us to fast for 1 hour from all food and drink including coffee— except for medicine and
water— before receiving Holy Communion.
  Proper Attire — The way we dress communicates to others and to ourselves whether we recognize and value the Lord
being truly present to us in the Eucharist. Short skirts, T-shirts, sweat pants and men and boys with hats on in the church fail
to show proper respect to the Lord.
  Proper Behavior — Genuflecting to Christ present in the tabernacle is not the only sign of respect for Christ’s
presence. Maintaining a prayer attitude includes no gum, food or conversations in church. It also means teaching our children
to be prayerful by not allowing them to run around.
  Prayer & Adoration before the Lord —
Attending Holy Hours of adoration and visiting the church during the
week to pray in the Lord’s presence deepens our love for Christ so present to us.

ANNUAL SANCTITY OF LIFE MASS
The annual Sanctity of Life Mass sponsored by the Order
of Malta will be held at historic St. Mary’s Church in Lancaster
on Monday evening, January 11, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. St. Mary’s
Church, has the distinguished honor of being the fourth oldest
Catholic Church in the original thirteen colonies and of being
named a pilgrim church by Pope Francis during this Jubilee
Year of Mercy. The principal celebrant will be Fr. Allan Wolfe
and the homilist will be Fr. John Gibbons who is a native son
