¡Alégrense en el Señor!
Estimados Hermanos y Amigos de San Juan Bautista,
Maranatha! ¡Ven, Señor Jesús! Mientras
esperamos ansiosamente el regreso del Señor y
nos preparamos para celebrar de nuevo Su
nacimiento como nuestro Salvador en Belén, LA
ALEGRIA caracteriza nuestra actitud y
sentimientos. ¿Por qué causa alegría el Mesías?
Puede ser obvio, pero a menudo nos olvidamos
de estar alegres en el Señor y cómo poner en
práctica esa alegría. San Pablo nos invita a estar
impregnados de alegría y nos exhorta: “Estad
siempre alegres en el Señor”, os lo repito,
¡estad alegres!”
Un cristiano sin alegría es como un
neumático sin aire, un lago sin agua, o un
manzano sin manzanas. La alegría caracteriza a
la persona tocada por Dios. El profeta Sofonías indica muy
claramente la razón de nuestra alegría:
¡Grita de gozo, Oh hija de Sión!
Da gritos de jubilo, Oh gente de Israel!
¡Gózate y regocíjate de todo corazón,
Oh hija de Jerusalén!
¡El SEÑOR ha levantado su sentencia contra ti.
Nuestro Mesías y Salvador ha quitado el juicio contra
nosotros, ha levantado el yugo que nos ha agobiado, y nos
ha reconciliado con el Señor. Nos regocijamos, porque
hemos sido reconciliados con Dios y de nuevo nos ha traído
cerca a Él. Esta reconciliación sólo es posible, porque Dios
es misericordioso. La ALEGRÍA es el fruto que lleva a la
reconciliación. Sin embargo, para estar siempre regocijados
en el Señor, necesitamos experimentar y vivir reconciliados
con Dios.
Celebrar la Navidad sin participar en la reconciliación
es una ilusión, es un día que está vacío y hueco. El Salvador
ha nacido para salvarnos, pero tenemos que aceptar esta
salvación y la reconciliación. El Bautismo nos ofrece la
salvación y la reconciliación. El Sacramento de la
Confesión, renueva esa reconciliación, cuando caemos de
Nuevo en el pecado. En la apertura Extraordinario de la
Misericordia de este año, este pasado martes el Papa
Francisco quiere que la iglesia entera se regocija en la
Misericordia de Dios y difundirlo ampliamente.
Este jueves a las 7:00 PM, como parte de nuestra
celebración de Aguinaldo, tenemos nuestro Servicio de
Penitencia Anual de Adviento con Confesión individual.
Varios sacerdotes ayudarán con confesiones en Español e
Inglés. Por favor traiga a su familia para que experimenten
la reconciliación, y puedan sentir el gozo de nuestro
Salvador. Confesiones también estarán disponibles el
Sábado, 19 de Diciembre de 5:30-6:45 y el Jueves 24 de
Diciembre 11:00-mediodía. ¡Alégrense siempre en el
Señor!

Rejoice in the Lord!
Dear People and Friends of San Juan Bautista,
Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus! As we
eagerly await the Lord’s return and prepare
to celebrate again his birth as our Savior in
Bethlehem, JOY characterizes our attitude
and sentiments. Why does the Messiah
cause joy? It may be obvious, but often we
forget to be joyful in the Lord and how to
practice that joy. Saint Paul urges us to be
people permeated by joy as he exhorts us:
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I shall say it
again: rejoice!”
A Christian without joy is like a tire
without air, a lake without water, or an
apple tree without apples. Joy characterizes
the person touched by God. The prophet Zephaniah very
clearly indicates the reason for our joy:
Shout for joy, O daughter Zion!
Sing joyfully, O Israel!
Be glad and exult with all your heart,
O daughter Jerusalem!
The LORD has removed the judgment against you.
Our Messiah and Savior has removed the judgment
against us, has lifted the yoke that has burdened us, and has
reconciled us with the Lord. We rejoice, because we have
been reconciled with God and brought close to Him again.
This reconciliation is only possible, because God is
Merciful. JOY is the fruit that reconciliation bears. But to
rejoice in the Lord always, then, requires us to experience
and live reconciliation with God.
Celebrating Christmas without participating in
reconciliation is an illusion; it is a day that is empty and
hollow. The Savior was born to save, but we must accept
this salvation and reconciliation.
Baptism offers us
salvation and reconciliation. The Sacrament of Confession
renews that reconciliation when we fall into sin again. In
opening this Extraordinary Year of Mercy this past
Tuesday, Pope Francis wants the whole Church to rejoice in
the Mercy of God and diffuse it far and wide.
This Thursday at 7:00 p.m., as part of our Aguinaldo
celebrations, we will have our annual Advent Penance
Service with individual confessions. Various priests will
help with confessions in Spanish and English. Please bring
your family to experience reconciliation, so you can be
filled with the Joy of our Savior. Confessions will also be
available on Saturday, December 19th from 5:30-6:45 p.m.
& Thursday, December 24th 11:00 AM-Noon. Rejoice in
the Lord always!

St. Joseph Catholic Club will hold Baseball
(boys ages 6 to 12) and Softball (girls ages 6 to 15)
registrations on Saturday, January 9 and 23 in the
hall at 410 St. Joseph St. Lancaster, from 11am to
4:30 pm. We encourage you to register on our

 ANNUAL DAY OF SHARING: Tomorrow, Dec. 7
Resurrection’s Students make decorations and cards for
people in nursing homes and those who receive community
meals. If you know of anyone who would be cheered by a
greeting from the school, please call Brenda Weaver at 3923083 or email: [email protected].
 The SCHOOL MASS this week will take place on
Tuesday, Dec. 8, the Feast of the Immaculate
Conception. Join us for the Mass led by the 8th grade and
celebrated by Father O’Brien at 9:30 a.m. at St. Anthony of
Padua church. There will not be a school Mass on Thursday.
 SANTA’S WORKSHOP Students in grades K-4 can buy
gifts for their families at Santa’s Workshop on Tuesday,
Dec. 8 and students in grades 5-9 shop Wednesday, Dec. 9.
Most gifts are less than $5.
 On Friday, Dec. 11, 8th graders will shadow students at
Lancaster Catholic High School to help them feel more
at ease when they transition to high school.
 In an effort to expose students to quality cultural events
available in Lancaster, kindergarten through 3rd grade
students will see “A Christmas Carol” this Friday at the
Fulton Theater. Students in grades 4-8 get the
opportunity Dec. 18.

Baptismal Preparation – 2 Sessions required
Before an infant or a child under 7 years of age can be
baptized, the parents must attend the Parents’ Class for
Baptism, which is held the 2 nd Saturday of each month @
9:00AM. Then, and only then, the parents with the godparents
attend Baptism Preparation Session II on the 4 th Sat. of the
month @ 9:00AM. Parents must register at the parish office.
December 26th is the next date for Session II.

The Social Justice Committee of St. Joseph’s Church will
be holding an hour long prayer and fellowship meeting and are
inviting people who have loved ones in prison. Starting Dec. 13
@ 3PM and every 2nd Sunday thereafter.
JOB OPPORTUNITIES AT ST. JOSEPH’S
Cook/Housekeeper: a part-time position (15-25 hrs/wk) whose
responsibilities include: keeping the rectory offices and priests'
living quarters clean, orderly and presentable at all times;
cleaning the religious education building weekly, and providing
for the day-to-day operation of the rectory kitchen, including
planning, cooking and serving meals for the priests and visitors.
Pastoral Visitor/Nurse: a part-time position (10 hrs/wk). The
position involves visiting our parishioners who are homebound,
in nursing homes and hospitals. This position requires a
mature, professional, responsible and committed individual
with excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal
skills. An understanding of parish structure and ministry is
necessary, as well as the need to maintain confidentiality. Must
be a Catholic in good standing. Degree as a Registered Nurse
and/or Licensed Practical Nurse (or equivalent) is required.
