The Readings that today's liturgy offers for our meditation remind us that the
fullness of the law, as all of the divine Scriptures, is love. Therefore anyone who
believes they have understood the Scriptures, or at least some part of them,
without undertaking to build, by means of their intelligence, the twofold love of
God and neighbor, in reality proves to be still a long way from having grasped its
deeper meaning. The privileged place where the Word of God resounds, which
edifies the Church, is undoubtedly the liturgy. This is where it appears that
the Bible is a book of the people and for the people: a heritage, a testament
consigned to readers so that the salvation history witnessed in the text becomes
concrete in their own lives. There is therefore a vital, reciprocal relationship of
belonging between the people and the Book: the Bible remains a living Book
with the people its subject who read it. The people cannot exist without the Book,
because in it they find their reason for being, their vocation and their identity.
This mutual belonging between people and Sacred Scripture is celebrated in
every liturgical assembly, which, thanks to the Holy Spirit, listens to Christ, since
it is he who speaks when the Scripture is read in the Church and welcomes the
Covenant that God renews with his people. Scripture and liturgy converge,
therefore, with the single aim of bringing the people to dialogue with the Lord
and to obedience to the will of the Lord. The Word issued from the mouth
of God and witnessed in the Scriptures returns to him in the form of a
prayerful response, a response that is lived, a response that wells up from love
(cf. Is 55: 10-11).

The Catholic Church in the United States will celebrate National Vocation
Awareness Week, November 2-8.
Observance of Vocation Awareness Week began in 1976 when the U.S. bishops
designated the 28th Sunday of the year for the celebration. It was later moved to
Feast of the Baptism of the Lord in January. Last year, after extensive
consultation, the Committee on Clergy, Consecrated Life and Vocations moved
the observance of National Vocation Awareness Week to November to engage
Catholic schools and colleges more effectively in this effort.
This will be the first year it will be held in November. Please ask Our Lord for
more dedicated, holy priests, deacons and consecrated men and women. May
they be inspired by Jesus Christ, supported by our faith community, and respond
generously to God’s gift of a vocation.

Las lecturas que la liturgia ofrece hoy a nuestra meditación nos recuerdan que la
plenitud de la Ley, como la de todas las Escrituras divinas, es el amor. Por eso,
quien cree haber comprendido las Escrituras, o por lo menos alguna parte de
ellas, sin comprometerse a construir, mediante su inteligencia, el doble amor a
Dios y al prójimo, demuestra en realidad que está todavía lejos de haber captado
su sentido profundo. El lugar privilegiado en el que resuena la Palabra de Dios,
que edifica la Iglesia, es sin duda la liturgia. En la liturgia se pone de manifiesto
que la Biblia es el libro de un pueblo y para un pueblo; una herencia, un
testamento entregado a los lectores, para que actualicen en su vida la historia de
la salvación testimoniada en lo escrito. Existe, por tanto, una relación de
recíproca y vital dependencia entre pueblo y Libro: la Biblia es un Libro vivo con
el pueblo, su sujeto, que lo lee; el pueblo no subsiste sin el Libro, porque en él
encuentra su razón de ser, su vocación, su identidad.
Esta mutua dependencia entre pueblo y Sagrada Escritura se celebra en cada
asamblea litúrgica, la cual, gracias al Espíritu Santo, escucha a Cristo, ya que es
él quien habla cuando en la Iglesia se lee la Escritura y se acoge la alianza que
Dios renueva con su pueblo. Así pues, Escritura y liturgia convergen en el único
fin de llevar al pueblo al diálogo con el Señor y a la obediencia a su voluntad. La
Palabra que sale de la boca de Dios y que testimonian las Escrituras regresa a él
en forma de respuesta orante, de respuesta vivida, de respuesta que brota del
amor (cf.Is 55, 10-11).

SEMANA NACIONAL DE LAS VOCACIONES
La Iglesia Católica en los Estados Unidos celebrará la Semana Nacional de las
Vocaciones del 2 al 8 de noviembre.
La observancia de la Semana Nacional de las Vocaciones inició en 1976 cuando
los obispos estadounidenses designaron el vigésimo octavo domingo del año para
dicha celebración. Luego se ajustó la fecha para coincidir con la fiesta del
Bautismo del Señor, en enero. El año pasado, tras extensas consultas, el Comité
para el Clero, la Vida Consagrada y las Vocaciones cambió la fecha de
observancia de la Semana Nacional de las Vocaciones al mes de noviembre para
involucrar en este esfuerzo de manera más efectiva a las escuelas y las
universidades católicas.
Este será el primer año que se realizará en noviembre. Por favor pida a nuestro
Señor más sacerdotes, diáconos y más hombres y mujeres consagrados dedicados
y santos. Que ellos puedan ser inspirados por Jesucristo, apoyados por nuestra
comunidad de fe, y responder con generosidad al don de Dios de una vocación.
