Marriage at Cana
Segundo Domingo de Tiempo Ordinario
Bodas en Cana
It is most significant that in the Gospel of John, the
first account of a “Miracle” is at a wedding feast,
when Jesus changes water into wine. First we need to
reflect on the mystery that is the love communicated
through marriage. We need to understand that the
intimate relationship of husband and wife in a lifelong bond of love is a reflection of divine Love itself. Spouses are prepared to “Die for one another;”
spouses work and suffer for each other—they make a
commitment to stay together in good times and bad,
in sickness and health.
The Bible frequently describes the relationship of
God and His people as that of a marriage. God is
faithful; He loves and accepts us not for what we do,
but for being his children, created in His image, for
and by his Love.
Parents reflect this Divine Love in the way that they
accept and love their children, again not for what
they do, but because they are “my children”! As parents love their children, so we are all called to love
all God’s children.
Everyone is not called to the vocation of marriage,
nor are all persons called to be parents; rather it is a
vocation –a call from God--that the individuals need
to hear and accept. This understanding is most important, because alone it is impossible to be good
spouses or parents, but with the Love of God, what is
impossible for us, is possible. Give thanks to the
Lord for the love that you have lived in your family.
Where there is emotional pain, forgive the person
associated with the pain, aware that you are one with
Jesus, who suffered because of love, but who loves
us into life.
Es muy significativo que en el Evangelio de Juan, el
primer relato de un "milagro" es en una fiesta de bodas, cuando Jesús cambia el agua a vino. Primero tenemos que reflexionar sobre el misterio que es el
amor comunicado a través del matrimonio. Tenemos
que entender que la relación íntima entre marido y
mujer en una unión de amor para toda la vida es un
reflejo del Amor divino en si mismo. Los cónyuges
están dispuestos a "Morir el uno por el otro," cónyuges trabajan y sufren uno por el otro-ellos hacen un
compromiso de permanecer juntos en las buenas y en
las malas, en la enfermedad y la salud.
La Biblia con frecuencia describe la relación de Dios
con su pueblo como el de un matrimonio. Dios es fiel,
y Él nos ama y nos acepta no por lo que hacemos,
sino por ser sus hijos, creados a Su imagen, para y
por su Amor.
Los padres reflejan este Amor Divino en la forma en
que ellos aceptan y aman a sus hijos, otra vez no por
lo que hacen, sino porque son "mis hijos"! Como padres aman a sus hijos, por lo que todos estamos llamados a amar a todos los hijos de Dios.
No todo el mundo está llamado a la vocación del matrimonio, ni son todas las personas llamadas a ser padres, sino que es una vocación, un llamado de Dios que las personas necesitan escuchar y aceptar. Esta
comprensión es más importante, porque solos es imposible ser buenos esposos o padres, pero con el
Amor de Dios, lo que es imposible para nosotros, es
posible. Den gracias al Señor por el amor que ha vivido en su familia. Donde hay dolor emocional, perdone a la persona asociada con el dolor, consciente de
que es uno con Jesús, que sufrió por amor, pero que
nos ama a la vida.

St. Joseph School Raises the Standards
Next week, we’ll begin our annual observance
of Catholic Schools Week, when we celebrate
the high standards Catholic education instills
in our students and the value it adds to our
community. On Sunday, January 27th, we will
celebrate St. Joseph School Alumni during the
10:45am Mass. The mass will be followed by an
Alumni Reception and Open House. See next week’s
bulletin for the schedule of more events.
SAVE THE DATE...
St. Joseph School will hold registration for the 20132014 school year, on Saturday, February 2nd from
8:00am to 12:00pm. We have openings in our
Pre-School (3 year old), Pre-kindergarten (4
year old) and Kindergarten through 7th grade
(Scholarships are available). To register a child
for the kindergarten class, the child must turn 5
years old by November 1st, 2013. In order to
register you will need to bring an original birth certificate, baptism certificate, immunization record, report card, parish envelope number and $50.00 registration fee per child. Registration will continue on
Monday, February 4th, from 8:30am to 1:00pm, as
space permits.

La Escuela de San José empezará a matricular para el año escolar 2013-2014, el Sábado, 2 de Febrero de 8:00am a 12:00pm. Tenemos espacio en
Pre-escolar (3 años), Pre-Kínder (4 años) y Kindergarten hasta 7º grado (becas disponibles). Para
registrar a un niño para el kínder, el niño debe
cumplir 5 años de edad para el 1 de noviembre del
2013. Para registrarse, usted tendrá que traer el certificado de nacimiento original, certificado de bautismo,
tarjeta de vacunas, calificaciones, el número de sobre
parroquial y la cuota de $50.00 de inscripción por niño. La inscripción continuará el lunes, 4 de Febrero,

Join the Project and Join Us Every Sunday for Our Food Sale
Striving Together! Gathering the fruits of our labor! To Build and Achieve A Goal!
We will have a Food Sale every Sunday. Support us with your purchase, as part of this
fund will be used to build a Plaza in the Church. All Parish Ministries invite you! We are
able to have the breakfast if we serve only our parish members, do not advertize to the
general public, as we do for the “Fiesta” and do not locate the sale where the public could
easily enter and participate. For these reasons we have the breakfast inside one of our
halls, or sale the breakfast on a “Take home” basis, generally at the North- west side of
the church. Any group which would like to sponsor a breakfast please contact Adriana Reynoso at (310) 679-1139

Ministerio de Duelo y Recuperación
El propósito de este Ministerio es dar apoyo a los feligreses cuando han sufrido la muerte de un ser querido, a

On this Epiphany Sunday of the Lord, the
participants of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) are returning from
Christmas Break. The Catechumens (those
who are seeking Baptism and Full Communion into the Roman Catholic Church)
will be presented and introduced to the Assembly. The
process of the RCIA is one of conversion. Baptized persons who need Confirmation and/or First Communion
are also welcome. We meet on Sunday mornings at 8:30
a.m. in the Parish Center; the sessions are dismissed at
noon. January Sessions are the 20th and 27th. Please
bring Birth Certificates, or any other certificates relating
to sacraments or marriages. You may obtain further
information regarding our ongoing process by calling

dog approaching us. Uncertainty about the dog’s
intent can be frightening, especially to young children. The ASPCA website provides parents with
advice on teaching their children to read a dog’s
body language and to identify signs that it wants
to be left alone. The website also helps parents
teach their children how to protect themselves
from an overexcited pet by demonstrating the basics of dog bite prevention, such as rolling into a
ball, protecting hands and face and calling for
help, rather than running or screaming if chased

Diaconate Formation Office: Information Meeting for Men Interested in the Permanent Diaconate,
Sunday, January 20, 2013, in Inglewood
The Diaconate Formation Office will be hosting an information meeting for all men who are interested in finding out more about becoming a permanent deacon in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Members of the Archdiocesan Diaconate Formation Office will be present to explain the role of the deacon in the Church, to explain the diaconate formation program, and to answer any questions that participants might have. Men must
be between the ages of 30 and 60 years to enter the formation program. It is important for men who are married to attend with their wives. The next information meeting will be held on Sunday January 20, 2013, from
2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at St. John Chrysostom Parish Church in Inglewood (530 East Florence Ave.,

Weddings: Congratulations! Thank you for choosing
St. Joseph Church as the place to celebrate your marriage. Preparation takes approximately 6 months. To
begin the process it is necessary that the couple attend an information night. This meeting takes place
in our parish office once a month and is always the
second Monday of each month at 7:00 in the evening.
