It is always fascinating to read the Ten
Commandments and any other precepts of the law in the
Old Testament. The focus is always about human being
in his relationship with God. Many scholars and the
teaching of the Catholic Church in the Catechisms agreed
that those laws given to the people in the context of the
covenant express this genuine implication of belonging to
God. For instance, it will be completely out of context if
we look at the laws as the essence of moral obligations
rather than a beginning of a life experience to the call to
love God and our brothers and sisters. Throughout this
third week of Lenten journey we have been called to pay
attention to the book of exodus while we are uncovering
our heart for God’s mercy.
Also this second week of Lent invites us to read
with attention the most dramatic expression and attitude
of the Messiah in temple of Jerusalem in reference to the
famous cleansing of the Temple. This is a narrative very
common to all four Gospels. However, we must admit
that John’s narrative is the most dramatic one which
captivates more attention and sometimes controversial.
From a theological perspective many would agree that
Jesus wants people to focus on the real meaning of the
cult and the presence which the first Christian
community will attribute to the body of Christ. Jesus is
truly present in the life of the community where people
have been called to adore Him in Spirit and in truth. This
is Saint Paul who really helps us to understand the whole
meaning of this text when he invites us to focus on the
scandal of the crucified Lord when he said: “Jews
demand signs, Greeks look for wisdom, but we proclaim
Christ crucified”.
The scandal of the Cross becomes the center part
of our faith and our life journey. God wants us to have a
different image of his love for us. To the extent of our
fearful experience, self-absorbed heart wrestling with our
countless needs and wants there is a something we should
look upon which is God desire to bring your cleansing to
completion. Let’s take a moment to reflect throughout
this week and uncover your heart and see to what extend
you would like your life to be cleansed and reshaped by
our Lord Jesus Christ.
Siempre es fascinante leer los Diez Mandamientos y
los otros preceptos de la ley en el Antiguo Testamento. El foco
es siempre a cerca de los seres humanos en su relación con
Dios. Muchos catedráticos e incluso la enseñanza de la Iglesia
Católica en el Catecismo están de acuerdo que esas leyes
dadas al pueblo en el contexto de la Alianza expresan esta
auténtica implicación de pertenencia a Dios. Por ejemplo,
será completamente fuera de contexto si nos fijamos en las
leyes como esencia de las obligaciones morales en lugar de un
inicio de una experiencia de vida a esta llamada de amar a
Dios y a nuestros hermanos y hermanas. A lo largo de esta
tercera semana de camino cuaresmal hemos sido llamados a
prestar atención al libro de éxodo mientras que estamos
descubriendo nuestro corazón a la misericordia de Dios.
También, esta segunda semana de Cuaresma nos invita
a leer con atención la expresión más dramática y la actitud del
Mesías en el templo de Jerusalén, en referencia a la famosa
purificación del Templo. Esta es una narración muy común en
los cuatro Evangelios. Sin embargo, debemos admitir que la
narrativa de Juan es la más dramática que cautiva más
atención y, a veces polémica. Desde una perspectiva teológica
muchos estarían de acuerdo que Jesús quiere que la gente se
fije más en el significado real del culto y presencia que la
primera comunidad cristiana atribuirá al cuerpo de Cristo.
Jesús está realmente presente en la vida de la comunidad
donde la gente ha sido llamada para adorarlo en espíritu y en
verdad.
Es San Pablo, quien realmente nos ayuda a
comprender todo el significado de este texto cuando nos invita
a centralizar mucho en el escándalo de la crucifixión, cuando
dijo: "Judíos piden señales, los Griegos buscan sabiduría, pero
nosotros predicamos a Cristo crucificado".
El escándalo de la Cruz se convierte en la parte central
de nuestra fe y de nuestra vida diaria. Dios quiere que
tengamos una imagen diferente de su amor por nosotros. En
medio de nuestra horrible experiencia, de nuestro corazón
agitado con las innumerables necesidades y deseos hay algo
que deberíamos considerar que es el deseo de Dios para llevar
a cabo su limpieza hasta su finalización. Tomemos un
momento para reflexionar a lo largo de esta semana y
descubrir nuestro corazón y ver hasta qué punto les gustaría
que sus vidas sean purificadas y reformadas por nuestro Señor
Jesucristo.

RCIA: Congratulations to all the adults’ catechumens and
candidates who participated in the Parish Rite of Sending
on February 22nd, and were welcomed by the Bishop at
St. Ignatius Cathedral for the Rite of Election. During
Lent, the adults enter a season of intense spiritual
exercise in their desire to follow Jesus through the
Sacramental Life of the Church.
First Communion Candidates who are students will
receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) for
the first time this week: March 11 and 12th.

RICA: Felicidades a todos los catecúmenos y candidatos que
