Thoughts from our Pastor

Pentecost is the great Feast
of the Holy Spirit. Our
Lord promised that he
would send the gift of the
Holy Spirit from himself
and the Father so that we
may be led to all truth - of
course through the Holy
Spirit we are led to the
Truth himself, Jesus Christ.
Living a life with the gifts of the Holy Spirit is essential to
holiness and being good disciples in the world. Like the
Apostles before the descent of the Holy Spirit, we are weak,
scared, vulnerable, and without direction at times. But when
we use the gifts of the Holy Spirit to live in holiness, then
we have everything we need to be called faithful disciples of
the Lord ready to go out and proclaim the Gospel to others
especially by how we live our lives.
We each have the gifts of the Holy Spirit within us because
of our Baptism and Confirmation. Do not let these gifts go
unused. Open them up, use them, and delight in how our
Lord wants to lead us to himself through the power of the
Holy Spirit. We should constantly be praying for a renewal
of these gifts. In fact, it’s one of the easiest prayers to say:
“Come, Holy Spirit.” This is a prayer that at any moment, in
any situation, which can be at the tip of our tongues. God
often answers prayers in his own time and in his own way,
but this is a prayer that will always be answered and immediately. Three beautiful words which, if said with a truly open
heart, will never fail to make a difference for us.
“Come, Holy Spirit, and fill the hearts of your faithful and
kindle in them the fire of your love.”

Solemnity of Pentecost
Corpus Christi Procession
All are invited to accompany the
Blessed Sacrament in the 11th
annual Omaha Corpus Christi
Procession on Sunday, May 29.
The event will begin at 2:30 pm
at Our Lady of Lourdes Church
(2110 So. 32nd Ave., Omaha) and
will finish at 5:00 pm at St. Peter
Church, a distance of 1.3 miles.
An ice cream reception will follow, and buses will shuttle people
back to Our Lady of Lourdes
Church for one hour after the event. First Communicants
are invited to wear their special attire and to bring baskets
of flower petals to strew in the streets. Eucharistic and parish banners are welcome. All seminarians are encouraged to
come dressed in cassock and surplice. All priests are encouraged to come vested in a white cope and stole and either cassock and surplice or alb and cincture. For more

Corpus Christ Help
The 11th annual Corpus Christi Procession will take place
on Sunday, May 29 this year. Over 1,000 people attend every year and so we need many volunteers to help it work.
Volunteer opportunities exist beforehand and on the day of
the procession. If interested in volunteering please contact
the co-captains Jeremy Bowers at 402-320-4220 or Dan
Nord at 402-650-1967, or the parish office.
Corpus Christi Collection
We will take up our annual second collection on May 21 &
22 to pay for the Corpus Christ Procession expenses. In
honor of the Blessed Sacrament, please be generous in this
collection. It takes a lot to put together an event of this
size, to publicize it, make it beautiful, and carry it out. What
other event celebrates our Faith so publicly while building
up unity among the Mystical Body of Christ? We thank you
for your kind support.

Jubileo Extraordinario de la Misericordia
Pensamientos de Nuestro Párroco

Pentecostés es la gran fiesta del Espíritu Santo.
El Señor nos prometió que Dios Padre enviaría
el don del Espíritu Santo para guiarnos en la
verdad - y como es bien sabido, el Espíritu Santo nos guía a Jesucristo, que es la Verdad en su
plenitud.
Llevando una vida haciendo buen uso de los dones del Espíritu Santo es esencial para conducirnos hacia la santidad y
para ser buenos discípulos en el mundo. Todos nosotros, a
ejemplo de los apóstoles antes de recibir al Espíritu Santo,
tenemos nuestras debilidades y temores, somos vulnerables y
carentes a veces de orientación. Pero cuando hacemos uso
de los dones del Espíritu Santo para llegar a la santidad, es
entonces cuando tenemos todo lo que necesitamos para ser
fieles discípulos del Señor y así estar preparados para pregonar el Evangelio a los demás, especialmente por el buen
ejemplo de vida.
Cada uno de nosotros hemos recibido los dones del Espíritu
Santo desde el Bautismo y la Confirmación. No permitan
que estén inactivos. Permitan que se desenvuelvan y gocen
en la realidad de que Dios nos atrae hacia él a través del poder del Espíritu Santo. Debemos rezar constantemente para
que se renueven estos dones. De hecho, es una de las oraciones más fáciles de recitar: “Ven, Espíritu Santo.” Esta es una
oración que está en nuestro alcance en cualquier momento y
circunstancia. Dios siempre responde a la oración según su
propio criterio, pero esta es una oración a la que responde
siempre e inmediatamente. Tres bellas palabras, que si se
dicen con un corazón sincero, nunca decepcionaran.
“Ven, Espíritu Santo, llena los corazones de tus fieles y enciende en ellos el fuego de tu amor.”

29 de Mayo: Procesión Eucarística de Corpus Christi
Todos están invitados a
acompañar el Santísimo en la 11º Procesión
de Corpus Christi de
Omaha anual el domingo, 29 de mayo, 2016.
Este evento comenzara
a las 2:30 pm en la Iglesia de Nuestra Sra. de

Ayuda Corpus Christi
La Procesión Anual de Corpus Christi tomara lugar el domingo, 29 de mayo este año. Más de 1.000 personas asisten

Donuts & Bake Sale
The Altar Society will host a Bake Sale
in O’Brien Hall this Saturday after the
5:00 pm Mass, and Sunday morning in
McMahon Hall after the 8:00 & 9:30
am Masses.
On May 15 (and continuing on the
third Sundays of the month) all junior
high and senior high age youth of the
parish are invited to help serve donuts
and coffee. Deacon Zak will setup for
after the 8:00 am Mass; helpers are
needed to serve after the 9:30 am Mass,
and for cleanup.
Building Maintenance Collection
On May 14 & 15, our ushers will take
up our monthly second collection to
assist with the many expenses of maintaining our buildings on St. Peter campus. Please be generous.
Mobile Food Pantry - May 20
St. Peter St. Vincent de Paul and Catholic Charities and the Food Bank will
host a special food pantry in the north
parking lot behind St. Peter Church on
Friday, May 20 from 10 am-12 noon.

Obligatory Confirmation Practice
Youth and adults receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation at St. Peter on
May 21 should attend a mandatory
practice with their sponsors on the
same day - Saturday, May 21 from
10:30 am - 12:30 pm. The practice will
begin in the gymnasium and conclude
in the church.
Catechism Summer Vacation
The last days of Catechism classes for
this school year were Wednesday, May
11 and Saturday, May 14. Registrations
for the next school year are held during
the summer. Classes for the next
school year will begin the first week of
September 2016.
Catechists Needed
We are in need of catechists for our
children’s catechism classes next fall.
Classes are on Wednesdays 5:30 pm7:00 pm, and Saturdays 10:30 am-12:00

Totus Tuus
Totus Tuus at St. Peter Church June 19
-24, 2016. This Catholic summer camp
for children and youth includes daily
Mass, Confessions, prayer and enthusiastic catechesis. The daytime program
for children in grades 1-6 will be held
Monday-Friday. The evening program
for junior and senior high youth will be
held Sunday-Thursday. Cost is $25 for
one child, or $50 for a family. There is
no cost for the evening program. No
child will be turned away for inability

Eucharistic Adoration is held on Fridays from 8:30 am-6:00 pm. (Please use
the west door of the church with the
wheelchair ramp.) We especially need
adorers at 9:00 am, 10:00 am, 2:00 pm

with Jesus.
St. Peter Knights of Columbus
All men of the parish are invited to join

Sacramental Preparation and Devotions
Baptism and Godparent Requirements
Parents of children who are in need of Baptism
must be registered, active parishioners of St.
Peter for at least three months. Godparents take
on serious obligations when they sponsor a person for Baptism and they should be virtuous and
faithful Catholics. Godparents must be 16 years
old or more, fully initiated, practicing Catholics;
if married, godparents must be married in the
Catholic Church. Baptisms may be scheduled
only after the parents and godparents have completed the requisite classes and the parish office
receives a letter from the parish at which the
godparents belong stating that the godparents
are in good standing with the Catholic Church
and are eligible to be sponsors. Parents and
sponsors must attend a Baptismal class before
the Baptism. Classes in English usually are offered on the fourth Sundays of March, June,
September and December from 3:00-5:00 pm.
Pre-registration is required. Baptisms in English
are usually offered on the second Sunday of the
month at 2:30 pm and on the fourth Saturday of
the month at 9:00 am. For more information,

Catechism Sacramental Preparation
for Children
The catechism school year goes from September
through May of each year. Registrations began in
May for the next school year. Classes are held on
Saturdays from 10:30 am to 12 noon, or
Wednesdays from 5:30 pm to 7 pm. Children
should be registered and attend classes for at
least two years before receiving sacraments. For

Local Youth Conference
Three members of St. Peter Parish are organizing a local youth conference July 2931 in Sioux City, IA. Speakers include Fr.
John Bamman, Fr. Michael Voithofer, Fr.
Brent Lingle and Fr. Shane Deman. This
youth conference will offer beautiful liturgies, engaging speakers and music, breakout sessions for youth and for adults, and
plenty of time for prayer and recreation.
The cost is $150 for the conference for
youth currently in 8th-12th grade. For more

Home School Sacramental Preparation
Families who are preparing their children at
home to receive a sacrament this year should
register at the catechism office by September 1,
2015. If your child will be receiving a sacrament
this school year or the following year, please
register during Catechism and Homeschool registration times posted in the bulletin. A Baptism
certificate must be submitted. Please see the
parish website for requirements and important
dates for First Reconciliation, First Communion

Adult Catechesis, RCIA
Those over the age of seven who desire to become Catholic and/or receive the sacraments of
Baptism, Confirmation or Communion should
contact Fr. Broheimer for classes in English, or
Sister Clara for classes in Spanish. Classes on
Catholic doctrine in English are offered weekly
from September through May on Tuesdays from
7:15 pm to 8:45 pm. Classes in Spanish are offered on Mondays at 7:15 pm or at 10:30 am. All
are welcome to attend.
Marriage
Parishioners who are registered for a minimum
of six months are eligible to begin marriage
preparation at St. Peter. In addition, the Archdiocese requires a minimum of six months of
preparation prior to your wedding date. To
begin marriage preparation in English or Spanish, please contact the parish office.
Hall Rentals
Parishioners registered in St. Peter Parish for at
least three months may rent the parish halls for
receptions and events. For more information

El Cursillo Pre-Bautismal para padres y padrinos es requerido para Bautismos. Todo feligrés de San Pedro debe asistir en las pláticas para Bautismo en San Pedro. (Si hay
problema con el horario de las pláticas, favor
comuníquese con Mary en la oficina parroquial
al 402-341-4560, ext. 100.) Los padrinos de
otras parroquias deben asistir en pláticas en sus
parroquias propias, o presentar una carta de
permiso de su párroco antes de asistencia en las
pláticas en San Pedro. El cursillo es valido por
cinco años. Padres de niños que serán Bautizados en la Iglesia de San Pedro deberán estar
feligreses registrados y activos de la Parroquia
de San Pedro por lo menos de tres meses. Padrinos deberán de ser iniciados completamente,
practicando el Catolicismo, asistir en la Misa
todo domingo y día de guardar, y si están casados, casados por la Iglesia Católica, y tienen 16
años o más, y sus propios hijos deben ser Bautizados. Los padrinos toman sobre sí unas obligaciones muy serias cuando apadrinan una persona para el Bautismo y deben ser virtuosos y
fieles católicos. Los padrinos deben presentar
una carta de aprobación firmada por el párroco
de su parroquia. Para padrinos casados, por
favor llevar copia de la acta de Matrimonio por
la Iglesia Católica. El cursillo Bautismal se ofrecen cada dos meses en tres domingos. Bautismos en español son ofrecidos usualmente el
primer, segundo y tercer sábado del mes a las
9:00 am y el cuarto domingo del mes a las 2:30

Primera Comunión y Confirmación
