Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, On Thursday, September 29, the Church celebrates with great solemnity the dedication of the
Church of St. Michael the Archangel on Monte Sant’Angelo in Apulia in southern Italy. The building of this church goes back to a miracle
in the 5thcentury, in which St. Michael revealed that Monte Gargano was under his special protection and that he wished a church
to be built there in his honor and in honor of all the holy angels. The local bishop piously complied, and the dedication of the construction
of the basilica became a great feast in the Roman Church. We rejoice today with the holy angels! The feast of St. Michael’s church today
is a celebration of the whole structure of reality, in which God governs His creation through the ministry of the celestial beings, the angels.
We know from Sacred Scripture, expounded especially by St. Dionysius the Areopagite and St. Gregory the Great, that there exist nine
choirs of spiritual beings, divided into three hierarchies. These beings, called “angels” after the lowest of the choirs, are marvelous spiritual
creatures, intellectual beings of great power and majesty. They are far greater than us in the order of nature and yet they remain creatures
all the same, subject like us to the Sovereign Majesty of God. The angels were created in grace with a heavenly calling like ours, and
each angel was given the choice to accept his divine vocation. Some of the angels (probably one-third of them) tragically said, “I will not
serve,” and were cast out of Heaven into the eternal punishment of Hell. As we read in the Book of Revelation: “And there was a great
battle in heaven, Michael and his angels fought with the dragon, and the dragon fought and his angels: And they prevailed not, neither
was their place found any more in heaven” (12:7-8). These evil angels are called “demons” and their master is Lucifer, who was the greatest of all the celestial beings. It is Lucifer who is called “Satan” or “the devil,” and it is over him that Michael is most fittingly said to be victorious. The name of Michael means, “Who is like God?” This was the battle cry of the good angels as they defeated the wicked angels. Against the pride that leads to damnation in the evil angels, the good angels proclaim the humility of salvation, whereby we entrust
ourselves completely to the loving care of the Eternal Father, accepting everything in our lives - all of reality - with joyful gratitude. Even if
we don't feel like it, we thank God for everything and in this way we live humility. In order to live in this saving humility, we turn often to
Michael, asking him to protect us from pride. While there are many sins that can damn us, the root of them all is pride, for when we sin, we
rely on ourselves as our own god, rather than trusting in the loving Providence of the true God. It is beautiful to note that Michael asked
that the church on Monte Gargano be dedicated not just to him, but to all the holy angels. You and I are part of the marvelous ordering of
the universe, which includes the beauty and power of the holy angels. They are given to us by God to protect us, to encourage us, to keep
us safe and to guide us to our Heavenly Homeland. Each one of us has been given an angel specific to us to govern us and keep us in
the way of humility. Today pray to this guardian angel of yours. Make friends with him. Get to know him. He is a powerful and faithful soldier of St. Michael in your life. May he always protect you from all pride, so that you can serve God in true humility flourishing in charity!

WEDDINGS/ BODAS
Couples planning to be married
must contact a priest well in advance of the wedding date. They
must also receive personal preparation for entering marriage. If either
party has previously gone through
any form of civil or religious marriage with another person, the priest
is not permitted to set a date for the
wedding until the Archbishop’s office has been consulted.
It should be noted that Catholics, in order to marry validly,
must marry before the parish priest or his delegate and two
witnesses. A civil marriage or a marriage before nonCatholic minister is not a valid marriage. Couples in such
“marriages” should contact a priest to have the situation
rectified.
Parejas que estén planeando casarse necesitan ponerse en
contacto con un sacerdote antes de planear el día de la
boda. Ellos también necesitan recibir preparación personal
durante su matrimonio. Si cualquier persona de la pareja a

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,
El jueves 29 de septiembre, la Iglesia celebra con gran solemnidad
la dedicación de la iglesia para San Miguel Arcángel en el Monte
Sant'Angelo, en Apulia al sur de Italia. La construcción de esta iglesia se remonta a un milagro en el quinto centenario en el que San
Miguel revelo que el Monte Gargano estaba bajo su especial protección y que deseaba construir una iglesia en su honor y en honor de
todos los santos ángeles. El obispo local piadosamente cumplió, y la
dedicación de la construcción de la basílica se convirtió en una gran
fiesta en la Iglesia romana. Nos regocijamos hoy en día con los ángeles! La fiesta de San Miguel hoy en día es una celebración de toda
la estructura de la realidad, en la que Dios gobierna Su creación a
través del ministerio de los seres celestiales, los ángeles. Sabemos
por la Sagrada Escritura, especialmente expuesto por San Dionisio
el Areopagita y San Gregorio Magno, que existen nueve coros de
los seres espirituales, divididos en tres jerarquías. Estos seres, llamados "ángeles" después de que el más bajo de los coros, son maravillosas criaturas espirituales, seres intelectuales de gran poder y majestad. Ellos son mucho mayores que nosotros en el orden de la
naturaleza y sin embargo siguen siendo criaturas de todos modos,
como nosotros sujetas a la Majestad Soberana de Dios. Los ángeles
fueron creados en gracia con un llamamiento celestial como el nuestro, y cada ángel se le dio la opción de aceptar su vocación divina.
Algunos de los ángeles (probablemente un tercio de ellos) trágicamente dijeron "No serviré", y fueron echados del cielo en el castigo
eterno del infierno. Como leemos en el libro de Apocalipsis: "Y
hubo una gran batalla en el cielo: Miguel y sus ángeles luchaban
contra el dragón, el dragón luchaba contra sus ángeles: Y no prevalecieron, ni su lugar fue hallado en el cielo "(12: 7-8). Estos malos
ángeles son llamados "demonios" y su amo es Lucifer, que era el
más grande de todos los seres celestes. Es Lucifer, quien se llama
"Satanás" o "el diablo", y es sobre él es que Miguel se dice más
apropiadamente para salir victorioso. El nombre de Miguel significa
"¿Quién como Dios?" Este fue el grito de guerra de los ángeles buenos, ya que vencieron a los ángeles malos. Contra el orgullo que
lleva a la condenación de los ángeles malos, los buenos ángeles
proclaman la humildad de la salvación, mediante el cual nos confiamos por completo al cuidado amoroso del Padre Eterno, aceptando
todo en nuestras vidas - toda la realidad - con gozosa gratitud. Incluso si no nos da la gana, damos gracias a Dios por todo y de esta
manera vivimos la humildad. Con el fin de vivir en esta humildad , a
menudo nos volvemos hacia Miguel Arcángel, pidiéndole que nos
proteja de orgullo. Si bien hay muchos pecados que nos puede condenar, la raíz de todos ellos es el orgullo, ya que cuando pecamos,
dependemos de nosotros mismos como nuestro propio dios, en lugar
de confiar en la Providencia amorosa del Dios verdadero. Es hermoso observar que Miguel le pidió que la iglesia en el Monte Gargano
se dedicara no sólo a él, sino a todos los ángeles. Ustedes y yo somos parte del maravilloso orden del universo, que incluye la belleza
y el poder de los santos ángeles. Se nos da nosotros por Dios para
protegernos, para animarnos, para mantenernos a salvo y que nos
guíen a la Patria Celestial. A cada uno de nosotros se nos ha dado un
ángel específico para gobernarnos guiarnos en el camino de la humildad. Hoy recemos a este Ángel. Hágase amigo de el. Conózcalo
a el. El es un soldado fiel y poderoso de San Miguel en su vida. Que
él siempre les proteja de todo orgullo, para que puedan servir a Dios
en la verdadera humildad floreciente en la caridad!
