Our Favorite Songs
Anita Tijoux – Shock: I use this for my Spanish III class. It is a political protest song. I use it in conjunction with a history lesson. It is
rapped very quickly and is difficult for beginners to understand.
Calle 13 - Latinoamérica, Pa'l Norte: I use this for my Spanish III class when we do our Immigration unit. It is excellent, but it took us
two weeks instead of one to finish. It has difficult vocabulary and is very long.
Camila – Todo Cambió: great use of preterit and subjunctive
Camila – Mientes: preterit and present tenses
Carlos Baute – Colgando En Tus Manos: present participles
David Bisbal – Ave María; conditional tense and subjunctive mood
David Bisbal – Diez Mil Maneras: use of infinitives as gerunds
Don Omar – Danza Kuduro: body part vocabulary and DANCING!
Enrique Iglesias – No Me Digas Que No: commands, present subjunctive, position of object pronouns in relation to different verb
tenses/moods
Enrique Iglesias – Dímelo: position of object pronouns in relation to different verb tenses/moods
Enrique Iglesias – Bailando: present-tense verbs, present participles
Enrique Iglesias – Loco: easy to understand, slow
Enrique Iglesias – Cuando Me Enamoro: one of the students’ favorites, easy to understand, duet with Juan Luis Guerra allows
students to hear two different dialects together
Fanny Lu – Tú No Eres Para Mí: great example of someone who doesn’t look like the stereotypical Spanish-speaker our students think
of, upbeat song, subjunctive mood, uses of ser/estar
Jesse y Joy – Chocolate: easy to understand
Jesse y Joy – ¡Corre!: present-tense verbs, video puts meaning to song well
Jesse y Joy – Espacio Sideral: attaching pronouns to the end of infinitive verbs
Jesse y Joy – Me Quiero Enamorar: present subjunctive
Jesse y Joy – ¿Con Quién Se Queda El Perro?: slightly more difficult to understand, I use this with Spanish III.
Jesse y Joy – Llegaste Tú: preterit v. imperfect
Juan Luis Guerra – La Calle: impersonal se
Juanes – La Camisa Negra: adjective agreement, very catchy
Juanes – Me Enamora: object pronouns
Julieta Venegas – Eres Para Mí:
Julieta Venegas – Me Voy
Luis Fonsi - Me Gustas Tú
Maná - Labios Compartidos/Divididos: There is a Spanish/Portuguese versión that is awesome. I use it with my Spanish II or III to
show the similarities between Portuguese and Spanish.
Marc Anthony – Vivir Mi Vida: ir + a + infinitive verbs, very catchy and repetitive
Nelly Furtado ft. La Mala – Bajo Otra Luz: just fun!
Paulina Rubio – Me Gustas Tanto: using gustar, present participles
Prince Royce – Stand By Me: great Spanglish song
Prince Royce – Darte Un Beso: attaching pronouns to the end of infinitive verbs
Prince Royce – Corazón Sin Cara: adjective agreement, cultural relevance
Prince Royce – Incondicional: just a beautiful song!
Ricky Martin – Frío: There is a difficult-to-understand rap by Wisin in this song. I use this song for Spanish III.
Santana – Corazón Espinado: using past participles as adjectives
Shakira – Waka Waka: cultural relevance, soccer, I use this when we learn sports and hobbies.
Sie7e – Tengo Tu Love: This is the first song I do with Spanish I. They love it. I talk about Sie7e’s dialect (he’s from Puerto Rico).
There are a lot of pop culture references (iPhone, Mariah Carey, etc.) and the song’s lyrics and meaning are easy to understand.
